Cries are heard from a abandoned room in the tower. They are the cries of a girl. A broken-hearted girl. A girl who in her young age, has lost everything good in her world, and been given a burden. Without the knowledge to escape, or to go back, all she can hope to do is to move on. But how is moving on possible if for 9 months, and on, you must carry the constant reminder of being abandoned.

Melody is the cause of the cries. She sits with her head to her knees, sobbing in the corner of the room, her chest rising and falling at uneven paces. She has one hand wrapped around her knees and the other placed on her protruding stomach. She doesn't know anyone. She has no sense of comfort. She does not know the meaning of family anymore. She just, doesn't have the answers that she needs.

She sits up slowly, still unsure of what she can and cannot do with a small child in her. She suddenly feels a kick, which causes a strange reaction. A smile. She wipes at her tears, trying to prevent her makeup from smearing. She looked down at her stomach with harsh eyes, not understanding how such a horrible thing could have caused her to smile. But, her eyes, which were shooting daggers, quickly melt to tenderness. Her eyes once again well up with tears, and she begins to cry, but this time it is quiet, and less violent.

Oh no! Spiders and cobwebs and… other stuff, oh my!

Okay, it wasn’t that bad. A little bad, but not that bad – and he really didn’t mind the spiders. Nikkolai walked with something of a skip to his step, as it was almost impossible to pull him down from his happy moods, and it wasn’t like there was anyone else here anyway. Hell, he could dance if he wanted to, right? Well, not that he would. There was too much of a risk involved.

Anyway.

Nikki ran a hand through his fluffy, white-blonde hair, looking around and out a few of the windows. This place was pretty high up, that much was obvious – and it made him just a tiny bit uncomfortable. At least he knew there was no way the floor was going to fall out from under him. Yikes… that would be incredibly grotesque. Nikki shuddered at the thought; where was this morbidity coming from? It certainly wasn’t like him!

As he walked, he heard wails coming from not too far away. The sound sent another shiver up his spine and he was hesitant to go check it out. Still, though, his caring for others forced him to go in the direction of the sound. It stopped for a few moments, at which point his walking stopped as well, but once it picked up again he continued to travel in that direction. Nikkolai spotted her then, and he felt horrible for walking in on a poor girl crying. But… what was she crying about?

“I’m sorry,” he said. “I can leave if you want, I didn’t know – I mean –“ What was the right thing to say here? “Are you okay? You’re crying… can I help you?”

She suddenly heard a voice. She turned to look up, quickly wiping away the tears from her eyes. It was a boy. He looked to be a little bit older than her, but she wasn't entirely sure. She let her hand rest on her belly while she stood up to lean against the wall, not wanting to look completely pathetic, even if she felt it. She turned to look at him, blushing slightly at the fact that her stomach was showing.

"I-I-I'm okay." she stuttered, through gasping breathe that her fit had caused. "Well.. sorta" she continued. She really wasn't that okay, but, se wasn't sure how he would react if she burst out in tears in front of him. Of course, she could always make him calmer about it or whatever she would have to do, but concentrating on other people's emotions is always hard when you are focused on feeling bad for yourself.

"I'm sorry. I didn't realize i was crying that loudly." she apologized, embarrassed. She really had hoped no one would hear her up in this remote tower, but someone certainly had.

No… no, she wasn’t okay. Even a blind man would be able to see that. Nikkolai took slow, cautious steps forward, not wanting to invade someone else’s private moments but feeling the need to comfort her. He hated seeing people cry! Seeing that she didn’t protest at his continued entry, he took a moment to look around before his eyes fell back to her. Now that he was closer he could see the bulging stomach that his eyes had missed before.

Oh. She was pregnant.

Well that made things a little… awkward? Not necessarily the fact that she was young enough to be in this school and pregnant, but the fact that she was a crying, pregnant woman and he was a young man who had little experience in this area. The only pregnancies he had gone through had been his mother’s with Melissa and Anita, and although he could barely remember the first one he definitely remembered the second. Still, though – he had been fifteen then and was only seventeen now. The only conclusion he could reach was that she was having a mood swing, but he was too polite to ask if that was really the cause.

“Aw, no, it’s okay!” he said. “Don’t apologize for crying.” Nikki wanted to frown. That was such a silly thing to be sorry for. “I’m Nikki. What’s your name?”
