Marissa lacked in financial education. She knew that bills existed and everything costed money, but she didn't know how to budget. She wasn't sure how to portion out payments and how much she would have to spend on the baby. However, she had enough sense to know that Xavier shouldn't be the only one pulling his weight. He carried the burden currently with having two jobs.

"I wanna live close to the father of my child. So if you don't mind, I'd like to move in. This is my last year of school. Imagine how chaotic it's going to be for me to move out of the dorms with a tiny baby and all of the furniture it requires. It's better for me to live here and not have to worry once the baby arrives and I graduate." Well, hopefully graduate. Then again, she was starting to get her crap together and focus. No more cutting classes! At least she wasn't purposefully cutting any now. Only out for legitimate sickness reasons a few times.

She lifted a finger. "And I'm getting a job. I know, crazy, but I ain't letting you pull all the weight money wise. Can't be that hard for me to get a little part-time job somewhere. Don't know much 'bout finances, but sounds like a good way to make a safety cushion for us." The teenager now held the motivation to do something with her life, if only because circumstances demanded it. She felt less bad about it though with her boyfriend so eagerly taking charge.

"I'm stealing your pants then. It'll be like how girlfriends steal their boyfriends' t-shirts but with pants." It felt like there was a joke somewhere in there, but she hadn't thought of it yet.

Father of my child. The words hit Xavier in the chest like a truck. He was still dealing with all the emotions and thoughts, but hearing it more just struck home how it was real. Although Xavier tried to be mature, to seek confident and upbeat, he couldn’t help but feel like a spectator to himself. Almost like he was watching some drama where the two main characters are now dealing with the consequences of their rushed romance.
But it wasn’t a drama on television. It was real life.

Xavier barely processed what Marissa said at first, but he eventually nodded. A part of him felt happy, and relieved. The newer protective desire in him would scream at him if he couldn’t be near Marissa while she continued to stay at the dorms. “I guess that’ll be the first order of business. Moving here.”

As Marissa suggested she gets a job, Xavier’s eyebrows creased together. “I know you want to help, but... Would you be able to manage?” He looked at her, concern crept into his eyes. “N-Not to say I don’t think you could manage having a job!” Xavier held his hands up, sputtering a little. He had realised how it sounded after he spoke.

Xavier took a deep breath. “It’s just... just school and a part-time job is a lot already. Adding being...” He couldn’t help but gulp. “...Pregnant, as well.” It seemed like a lot. Xavier was someone very used to having an active lifestyle, and it wasn’t like he was balancing school with all this.
He hadn’t even considered the fact that he was lucky to not be in school, but Marissa still was.

Ultimately, Marissa’s decision to get her own job would be her own. Xavier wouldn’t try and force her not to. Plus, she wasn’t wrong about it being a safety cushion.

Xavier had tried to seem confident this entire time, but anxiety crept onto his face. It came slowly, the more they talked. But he took another deep breath, and attempted to seem more composed.

Now, he felt calmer. Calmer meant more himself. Xavier couldn’t help but flash a grin at Marissa as a joke crept into his head. “So. You’re getting into my pants?” Kind of ironic, in a way. Such a situation is the reason they were here now in the first place.
