Masami had no idea what he was doing. Not in the out of his depth sense. No, violence was something he knew intimately. He just couldn't comprehend why he had decided to set himself up a match in the place he disliked so much. Why he was doing the very thing he called others out for: fighting for entertainment.

Although that wasn't exactly true either. He knew why he was doing it. He had a plan kind of hammered out. But it was one that hinged on him actually winning. And honestly, he wasn't sure that he could win this one.

But his honor demanded that he see this through, even if it killed him. Which, who even knew. It might. He wondered if Fehralyn would be upset if he died. If Jude would. He couldn't think of too many more people who would really notice. His neighbors for sure, when the wifi bill went up. Maybe that punk kid, Tai. His favorite bartender. Not too many others though.

The place was packed, that was for sure. Tier certainly knew how to draw in a crowd. Masami had avoided all advertising for the arena in the days leading up to the fight. He didn't want to know how they'd spun this.

He was dressed simply: track pants and a tank top. There was no hiding his frame in this: he was ripped. There was also no hiding the place where his forearm had been reattached so crudely.

Other than this, he carried an odd weapon on his hip. A katana tsuka and tsuba without an apparent blade attached to it. He let out a long breath, steadying himself.

He was such an idiot.

When Ivanka saw who set up the match, she immediately grew suspicious. Just what was going on here? She lacked familiarity or closeness with the sword, but she understood his views well enough. He did not approve of the arena's antics. He outwardly decried them while peddling goods for the place. While out of respect she did not further inquire, this was going over the line.

As usual, the redhead stuck to the basics for her outfit. It was a tank top and tight leggings for her today. While some would recognize her as being one for the sports bra look, she found herself inclined to not bare her midriff today. Her long hair was pulled up in a messy bun. Her fierce eyes scanned her opponent. The frown suggested less bemusement and more concern. It was not pity so much as confusion.

"We'll have words...." She lightly murmured as she stood on the other side. Her voice likely drowned out by the crowd. She stretched and rotated her arms. For now, she had no visible weapon on hand. "But the show must go on." The woman showed her respect by properly bowing before taking on a stance. Right foot behind the left, arms ready and prepared to block. Her fierce eyes bearing upon him as if trying to read his soul. While her usual act tend to involve a cool, mildly cocky edge with a heaping layer of intimidation, this time she was utterly serious.

Her nose subtly sniffed the air. Trying to get a reading that way. Energy flowed through her as her eyes temporarily showed a flicker of green. This should have been a normal fight, but it didn't feel like it.

Just what was going on?

With his opponent opposite him, Masami knew there was no backing out even if he wanted to. He hated the idea of giving these bloodthirsty animals a show, but he needed to do this for himself. Falling to his knees, he bowed with his hands placed together on the arena floor in front of him and called out loudly enough for her to hear even above the crowd. "Thank you for having this match with me today. I pray I do not disappoint you."

Formalities out of the way, he stood up and adopted an open hand fighting stance. Now was the time to test his opponent. He had seen some of her fights, but he needed first hand experience. He shifted his weight suddenly, throwing a strike with the heel of his palm.

The odd thing was that he didn't move from his starting position, well enough away that he shouldn't have been able to hit her. But if Ivanka didn't move, she would feel the impact of his strike nonetheless.

Ivanka didn't actually know how Masami fought. She wasn't exactly surprised he could fight, but she certainly had no data on him. His scent didn't give her much to work with either. Expecting to be dealing with mostly slashes and cuts, hardened Tourmaline quickly grew on her left arm. However, instead of moving forward, he thrust his palm out...from his starting position. When they were a good chunk too far from one another. Projectile perhaps?

The strike certainly didn't feel like a projectile. That felt like he was right in front of her, not a distance away. The fighter slid back. The crystal cracked at the impact, having been but a thin layer in front of her skin. The woman squinted. Whatever he was doing, it was long distance. Mild retaliation in the form of flying shards popping off of her arm came. They soared towards the sides of his neck and face. She almost expected a ding from impact. It couldn't really be called an attack yet though.

If he wasn't going to come closer to her, she would either have to force a close quarters brawl herself or make this a long distance fight. Relying on her gem manipulation though was not her preferred method. Plus it'd be easier to read from afar. Her stance shifted, appearing like she was about to move forward.

Masami raised his arm to block the gemstone projectiles, letting them ricochet off of him with a sound not unlike a bullet tinging off of some metal surface. The gems left superficial scratches in his skin, which he didn't even register.

As she seemed to be moving forward, he took the arm he had blocked with and pulled back for a chop at her arm. The swing made it much more obvious what was happening with his long distance strikes: his arm stretched out, covering the distance between himself and Ivanka in seemingly an instant. And when he pulled back, his arm snapped back to its normal length as if nothing had happened.

Ivanka pulled off the classic feint. Successfully luring the man into using his attack in better view, she flung herself to the side to dodge. As she moved to the side, she flung up her arm in an upward diagonal slash motion. This led to a green wave firing out. What appeared to be a giant, sharp gem boomerang shot out towards his arm, particularly aiming straight for the shoulder.

As she halted, her eyes gazed towards her arm briefly. That wasn't a perfect dodge. The blade grazed it just enough to leave a trickle of blood. Her attention shifted back to her opponent. The dragon charged up her energy; people could see a vague green aura circling her as she stood there. Just what was she about to do?

Masami didn't take this blow. Retracting his arm, he rolled hard to the left to get out of the way of the boomerang. Masami made a mental note that he was going to have to make sure it didn't blind side him.

As she charged herself up, Masami sighed and drew the katana hilt from his belt. If she wasn't going to hold back, neither would he. Well. Maybe a little. He didn't want to cut her limbs off.

Turning so that he was certain the sliver of blade at the end of the tsuba was facing away from her, Masami moved quickly, offering several strikes with the blunted edge of the sword.

Being that she wasn't focusing on it, the boomerang simply zoomed past then shattered. Despite her opponent's dodging, she didn't move from her spot. She was preparing for something, but what? It would suddenly be revealed as the first attack came in. She noted the turn and punched the ground hard. As the quick strikes swooped in, a pillar shot up and sent the redhead upward. It rose her high up within the arena.

In a few moments, she sprang off of the gem pillar. The woman flung herself at the man with high velocity. She purposefully encrusted her legs with tourmaline not so much to damage him more but to make herself weigh heavier. More weight plus momentum meant she would come crashing to the ground faster. Ideally crashing onto the samurai. Her left leg extended out while her right leg tucked its knee close to her body. Her red eyes glaring down her target.

A body in the air is a body that cannot change its trajectory. That was the second thought that went through Masami's head as he watched Ivanka plummet towards him. The first one was the question, does this kid watch anime?

Masami shifted his position out of the way of Ivanka's attack in three simple steps, setting himself up in the process.

First he rolled to the side, getting away from the immediate spot she would land.

Second, he turned himself to face Ivanka's landing spot.

Third, he lifted his right leg high above his head, fully intending to bring it down on her with a crushing axe kick to the ribs. Or close enough, he hoped.

Admittedly, she did start watching anime. Not the entire reason for doing this, but she thought it would make for a sufficiently flashy move. However, she already foresaw the limitations of it. Expecting a counter, she put her arms in a blocking position while shifting her legs so her right leg would land quickly after the left. The result was a shockwave of gem shards scattering all around her, including at the ready Masami. She intended to use the force of the ground collision to somewhat throw him off balance.

Her body sprang upward towards the kick. Right arm in front of left, Ivanka shoved her weight towards the blow. It would certainly hurt her, but it would probably be less bad than taking it straight to the ribs. Her aim was to exert enough strength to completely unstabilize him then perhaps try to grapple him. First she had to succeed in unbalancing him though. Of course, she didn't properly estimate how much a kick from him would hurt her arms, but she would find out soon.
