'One of many shrines outside of Kyoto doesn't help much... But only one priestess? Well, that's unusual...
And on top of that, the spirits avoiding the place? It just can't be.'

Akane analyzed his words silently. She was trying to find a connection between the clues he was giving her, any sort of logical explanation for such an exceptional case.

'Something was keeping them away from the place. Some sort of spell maybe? A barrier? Maybe something or someone really strong was protecting the shrine... But who, and why? Could it have been that priestess wasn't actually a priestess? But what would she have been protecting there? Tch!' She frowned feeling incapable to solve the puzzle with only that much of information. However, she tried hard to hide her concerns in front of him.
"Co-cosplayer? Uhh, what could that be?" She asked after a short pause and scratched her head in a shy manner.

"Um... Cosplayer. People who dress up as characters from things they like... They thought I was from a manga..." He shrugged. "Noone told me which one though, so I think yokai are just common in those books..."

"I see. Humans do that too? I guess I haven't spent enough time with them after all... Eh, I get it now! You probably thought that I was one of those cosplayers just a while ago!" She laughed pointing her finger to her kitsune mask.
"Well, I could say I did something similar while I was living among them. I couldn't attend an ordinary human high school like this of course. You remember I told you how I can kind of transform? Well, I had to pretend I was a human being all along, so I had to adapt my appearance to the likes of theirs."

"Well, not really. That... didn't actually cross my mind." He admitted. "In a place like this, it seemed more likely you were a kitsune or some kind of priestess rather than a cosplayer."
The last thing she said confused him though. "You... look human though. And you said before you won't have ears or a tail till you're older... What did you transform?"

"I get it, don't worry, I just tried to pull a joke" she laughed again watching him confused.
"You were right about both of your assumptions. I currently do act as a priestess. And it is also true that in not such a distant future I'm gonna become a real kitsune. But even if I don't have fox's tails and ears yet, I still have my red eye to hide in front of humans. Don't you think that something like that would scare them?"

He shrugged. "My different eye colors didn't bother anyone. Occasionally kids would ask questions, but thats it. It's rare, but I think humans can have different colored eyes too."

"I was supposed to study human beings, and I've read something about that - they call it heterochromia... I think..." She paused wondering if she remembered it correctly. "Anyways, the problem was not the difference, but the color itself. Red eye's iris is extremely rare. And apart from that, nobody really knows when my real transformation will start. Just try to imagine the situation of me in human high school, with my fox ears suddenly popping up my head, or one of my tails appearing behind my back." She chuckled at the thought.
"But enough about me, we had a deal, right? It's your turn to tell me more about yourself and your life in the shrine."

"Well, take it from me, fitting in isn't worth it. Hiding your tail is nearly impossible and hiding your ears hurts a ton after an extended period. Besides, humans are fun when they freak out!" Kenta laughed.
He seemed to hesitate when she asked him about his shrine, as if he had forgotten or wasn't even aware he promised such a thing. "Oh... Um... Well really, theres not much to tell... My friend Laetus found me there... about two years ago next week. I had told you it was just one of many, and just... didn't get a lot of love I guess, even from spirits... And from the sounds of your shrine, priestesses live there, don't they? I think the girl that came around mine stayed in Kyoto somewhere..." He shrugged. "Thats it. I lived there until about six months ago, wandering into the city a lot, and... Then I came here. Got to see another person every day... Make some friends... Noone... Noone hides from me here..." As he trailed off at the end, his face became a bit more serious, and showed a bit of sadness, though he quickly shook it off and was back to smiling again.

Although Kenta tried to hide his feelings behind a smile, she was able to read them well from the tone he was speaking in.
'It seems this is all I can get for now. Pushing him to speak any further would just make him feel uncomfortable around me.'
"Eeeh? I can't find any understandable reason why would anyone hide from someone as adorable as you." she said with and smiled to him, pretending she noticed nothing at all. "Oh, by the way, with the power I have, hiding your ears wouldn't hurt you at all! Interested to give it a try?"

Kenta blushed a little and pouted in that way kids do when adults tell them how cute they are. This quickly went back to his usual smile though. This kid didn't dwell on emotions long it seemed. He seemed to consider her offer for only a moment before shaking his head. "Nah, I like my ears." He told her. "Part of what makes me me, right?"
