Shinji watched as Avian's demeanor had changed in the split second it took her to comprehend what he had said. She had become way more nervous than before. With his eyebrow held high, Shinji grasped her hand softly as one should when shaking hands with a girl of any age. He looked into her eye and smiled as he moved his neck side to side stretching it. Upon letting go of her hand, she began to say something. She started off her sentence but then paused seemingly to think about it. Still with a smile on his face, Shinji awaited her response.

"Birds?" he thought to himself. "That's not TOO bad. Is that the full extent of your ability though?" He asked her still focused on her one eye. While he waited for her next response, hoping she wouldn't be as nervous as she was before, he noticed how her ivory white hair accents her eye color making it pop out. To him it was cute but he would never admit it as he was never good with girls anyways.

Avian couldn't help but turn away, letting her sunhat cover her face from his view. She didn't like people getting this close to her. The only reason she approached him was to see if he was ok, not start a whole conversation! She wasn't very good with conversing unless it was on the topic of birds. He was very nice, she couldn't deny that, but he was getting too close for comfort for her. At his next question, she shuffled her foot awkwardly, not sure whether she should lie or not.
I can accidentally summon a wake of vultures onto people. She wanted to say but as usual bit the words back.
"Y-yes..." she replied quickly, "...that's all,"
Immediately aware how obvious it was that that was a lie, she looked for a way to escape when a fluttering came from the bushes. A small tropical screech owl flew from the brush and onto her shoulder, pecking at her hair a little.
"My little screech owl!" she exclaimed, instantly brightening up, a rare smile appearing on her face.
She fumbled with her camera, ready to get a good shot. She had kind of forgotten about Shinji...yeah that quickly.

As Shinji got his response from the extremely awkward girl, he noticed that she was trying to get out of the conversation. it was rather obvious that she was uncomfortable and that was not a problem with Shinji since he knew how it felt. But hey, it happens. She moved her foot while answering the question though and told him that it was all she could do. Shinji smirked at the fact that she was obviously lying. One could easily tell from the way she said it as well as her body language.

Soon after this, there was a little rustling in the bushes nearby. Shinji only looked over slightly to see what it was, but apparently Avian was already ahead of the game. "My little screech owl!" she yelled while putting a smile on her face. Shinji's smirk only grew wider and into a smile at the sight of this. he was a little surprised that she would do this though considering what had saw of her up until now. But alas, he knew that it was getting way too late for him to be out and his pain was relieved just enough for him to limp back to his dorm. Of course he wouldn't leave without giving notice to him leaving first. it's rude to just walk off from anyone.

"Umm, hey!" He yelled out so that she would be able to hear him. "I have somewhere to be tomorrow morning. I will be leaving for my dorm soon." Shinji said as he leaned himself against the building awaiting her notice.

Avian could hardly hear him as she began positioning her camera. She was far too absorbed in her new friend to pay too much attention.
"Uh-huh!" she nodded, not bothering to look over at Shinji.
Although her camera flashed, the owl only flinched a little but refused to fly off like most would. It stayed on her shoulder like a chick would its mother.

"Well, alright then." Shinji said as he turned around and limped away. "I guess I'll see ya around." He said under his breath as his left foot jumbled under his right. Opening the door, Shinji didn't look back as he knew he longed for his bed and a good night's sleep even though he had to be back at the roof in the morning so he can't sleep in. Even with his want for sleeping in, he still knew that he wanted to figure out Hal's second ability now more than ever since it was a fascinating thing to do. Maybe he would see Avian around the academy again, maybe not. Who knows, but either way, Shinji was tired and he could here his bed calling him.
