Anya gave Sabriel a kind of smile, as it wasn't a good time for a full smile, or even a half smile. She sat down too, but Mery remained standing.

When the doctor came in, Anya thought that Mery might tackle him, but she didn't.

"Yes!" She said impatiently and Anya felt very sorry for her sister. Anya herself was really worried, and she could barely imagine how her sister felt.

The doctor nodded. "Alright," he said. "Well, we've done all that we can. It's hard to tell at the moment whether or not he'll make it, though. Slightly odd. Even so, he's doing better than he should be, for some reason."

Sabriel pulled his legs up to his chest, unsure if he should be happy about that or upset.

Mery sighed with relief. "May I...may we see him?" She asked anxiously. Anya stood up and took her sister's hand, just in case the doctor said it was okay.

The doctor thought for a moment. "I suppose it wouldn't hurt," he said. "Here, follow me."

Sabriel immediately stood up and followed after the doctor. Once at Nicolas's room, the boy stopped, and leaned against the wall. "You two can go in," he said. He didn't want to see his brother in whatever condition he was in.

Mery nodded silently and followed Anya. When Sabriel said he didn't want to go in, Anya turned and looked at him. "Are you sure, Sabe?" She asked.

When asked if he was sure, Sabriel thought for a few moments. He was afraid to see Nicolas in whatever condition he was in, but he was sure nothing could be worse than how he had been before, covered in blood. He gulped, and decided to go in as well. Without a word, the boy went into the hospital room, his face paling when he saw Nicolas.

The heart monitor was steady, which was good, but the older male just looked too helpless, and quite unhealthy. He looked at Mery, glad she couldn't see this, and then turned to Anya, still silent.

Anya's lip trembled, and she hoped that Nicolas didn't feel terribly bad.

Mery turned her head towards Anya. "How does he look?" She asked.

Anya looked at Sabriel. She didn't really want to reply to Mery's question, but she would if Sabriel didn't say anything.

Anya wanted him to answer? Sabriel gulped once again, trying to put the right words together in his head to describe his sibling. He was silent, and shaking slightly. "Um...." he paused, "bad." That was the only word that came to his mind, and he didn't even want to think about more fitting words.

Anya felt badly for Sabriel. She looked at Mery. The boy's simple words had made her go pale. She watched Mery sigh and touch the scar across the bridge of her nose. "Thanks, Sabe." She said.

The boy nodded, then looked away. He sighed inwardly and his gaze went to the floor, not knowing what to say or what to do. It was painful to be in here, especially because of his past. Sabriel rubbed his forehead, and looked at Nicolas when he thought he saw movement.

There had, in fact, been movement. Nicolas's hand had twitched and his head had moved to the side. He would probably be waking up soon, even though the doctors hadn't expected it to happen.
