Corey had had enough of people. Not because they were mean to him or got on his nerves but because it seemed like they were all now part of his new agenda. He had to become more popular to become stronger and cull those who were supposed to be 'plaguing' the world. It was nice to have friends but he had grown used to being alone, only looking out for himself. There were certainly no friends at the facility and no one seemed to notice him whilst he lived on the streets. Now, he had a home and people he talked to but the whole Celestial Guardian situation was an unwelcome addition.

Wandering through the sentinel trees, Corey ventured further into the woods. It seemed like the perfect place to just get away from everyone and have some alone time. Avoiding low hanging branches, Corey suddenly got a feeling; a feeling that he dreaded. Whenever he got close to a person that was on the Celestial hit list, he got a sensation to alert him. He sighed deeply, annoyed that there seemed to be nowhere that he could escape. Corey was still yet to cull anyone and he knew that that meant he would soon be on the radar of other Guardians.

Reluctantly and unenthusiastically, he began to transform into his Guardian form. Shards of blue-green crystals encircled him as a light of the same colour engulfed him. After one final burst, his form was completely different. As Zartax, he bore no resemblance to his usual form. It was as though he was a different person entirely, except on the inside, he was still Corey. It was easier to consider Zartax as a different person.

Approaching the area where the feeling got stronger, Zartax stumbled upon a cave. Creepy, dark cave. This is definitely the place, he thought. He stopped before entering, reconsidering what he was about to do. His mind eventually made a decision: he valued his own life over the life of someone evil. He began his way inside the gloom.

Vos had lived as something of a hermit for sometime now, even as winter set in and the snow started to fall. The shadow demon had been considering heading into the city permanently, or at least semi long-term. He'd survived worse than this island's winter, but it was still unpleasant.

He'd picked up Zartax's scent before he approached the cave, he had a custom it seemed. So far the people he'd met had proven pleasant, but he didn't want to take any chances. Stepping into a shadow created by his fire he'd vanish into it, he'd silently pop into a shadow outside of the cave.

Completely invisible in the shadow he'd watch as his visitor entered the cave. He didn't have anything of particular value there, anything he wanted safe he kept on him. So he'd quietly watch, considering his options.

Venturing inside, the darkness enveloped him. Zartax wished that he had a light source of some kind; he would be no use blind in a battle. He made a mental note to keep a torch on himself next time, in case a similar situation arose. However, there was a flickering light further in. Perhaps now was the chance to leave before it went too far. It always crossed his mind but knowing that would mean the chance of someone killing him would increase made him stay.

Zartax emerged into the light of a fire dancing its brilliant reds and golds. Why would someone live in a cave? The thought that perhaps this person was some kind of outcast alone without a proper home made him uncertain but he had to convince himself otherwise. No. This thing is evil. Monsters live in caves.

Looking around the place, he saw no sign of life. "I know you're in here," he yelled. "Come out where I can see you." He wasn't certain that the person was actually in the cave, the feeling wasn't specific that way but it was strongest in the area. His voice tried to sound strong, as usual, even if he was dreading it inside. Zartax had no idea who or what the person was or what they were capable of and that made him even more nervous.

Vos had no idea who this person was but he had ideas about what he wanted. He'd acknowledged the poss that his home hell had put a bounty on his head, he'd thought it was unlikely yet here they were. This visitor didn't look or smell demonic but that didn't mean he was above taking jobs from demons.

"Hunting for trouble are we?" he'd ask calmly, still out of site in the tree's shadow, "it's not wise to seek trouble where there usually wouldn't be any." He certainly didn't want any trouble, but he couldn't just ignore someone obviously hunting him.

Focusing he'd instantly move into the shadow of the next tree, remaining invisible. "What do you want?" he had a good guess about what the stranger wanted but he was curious as to what they'd say.

The voice startled Zartax slightly. That would definitely give the evildoer a reason to feel intimidated... He wasn't sure why the sudden voice surprised him since he knew for certain there was someone close by. Zartax pivoted on the spot in an attempt to find the source of the sound. The person did have a point: it seemed like they weren't causing any trouble and he hated the fact that he was in agreement. No, this person may not be doing evil deeds now, but they have at some point, he convinced himself. "Step out into the light," he announced, ignoring the first question.

Zartax stood proudly as he thought he had sourced where the voice was coming from. Perhaps this being had some sort of invisibility; that would certainly make the job harder to carry out. "I am here to stop you before you carry out any more evil," he yelled. It made him cringe inside at how corny he sounded. He still felt that a catchphrase was needed - may as well own the cheesiness, right?

"Just give yourself up and we can end this easily." He desperately hoped that it would end easily. His kill count was still at zero and he could almost feel the swarm of other guardians closing in on him. He inhaled deeply, his eyes looking for any sign of movement.

"Oh my, you're quite experienced with the heroic speeches aren't you?" he'd ask, a noticeable amount of sarcasm in his voice. "Ironic, you seemed to be trying to sneak up on me...yet here you are, demanding I step into the light," he'd teleport into another shadow, remaining invisible.

"So, what are you?" he'd ask, his voice now coming from the other shadow, "don't smell angel on you." His scent was odd, different, but on this island he'd learned to expect many different kinds of people, he'd hoped none would try to hunt him, that hope was gone now.

With a thoughtful hum he'd finally step partially out of the shadow to reveal himself, keeping one foot in the darkness. "Name?" he'd ask, tilting his head, "I'd at least like to know your name before we do anything."

If there wasn't the reddish glow from the campfire, a slight blush on his cheeks may have been seen. It was true that he wasn't exactly doing a good job on the sneak attack. The voice was suddenly coming from another direction. They were obviously messing with him, trying to throw him off. A teleporter too, perhaps?

Zartax was unsure whether he should tell the person what he was. "I am one you should fear," he exclaimed, immediately regretting it. Inside, he was cringing again, along with an exasperated sigh in his mind but he kept his domineering stature. "I'm C..." he began before immediately stopping himself. The name Zartax had never left his lips before, only a name he had used in his mind. Reflex took over as he began to use his real name before mentally scolding himself.

"I am Zartax." He did not ask the question back. It was easier if he didn't know the names of those he killed, he had decided. It felt like less weight to bear if he thought of them not as a person, though he couldn't help it. They were, in fact, people. People who were on his list to kill.

He'd tilt his head, his sharp ears listening as his opponent spoke, picking up everything he said. "Zartax huh?" he'd click his name, "I picked up a bit of hesitation there." He'd look him over, "almost as if it wasn't your real name," he'd heard him almost said something else.

"Well Zartax," he'd say, with a nod, "here I am." He'd gesture to himself, leaning against the tree, who's shadow he'd step out of him, "your quarry, your apparent target." His visitor was coming off as inexperienced, a so called rookie do-gooder perhaps.

Vos scratched his cheek, "as your host I should offer you refreshments, do you mind spring water?" He was being sarcastic, he was curious as to what this person was going to do now that they'd found him.

Of course he picked up on hesitation; he really needed to get better at the whole guardian thing. No comment was made to try and justify that Zartax was, in fact, his real name. Any attempt would probably have come across as inexperienced and backtracking. Instead, he kept his hard stare at the blue man who emerged from the shadow.

The guy was definitely some demon or something along those lines, by the looks of him. It was almost as though he was an evildoer ripped straight out of a story - the monster who commits heinous actions. For some reason, it felt easier than if it were another young girl like he had previously encountered. Over a month ago, monsters and magic were just stories and, in ways, it still felt that way. Corey wasn't quite adjusted to the new world around him and the thought of hurting a human (or at least a human-looking being) seemed harder than hurting a demon.

The guy was probably messing with him but he seemed like a nice person. His sarcastic humour made him more endearing but that could all be a front. He had contemplated whether telepathy would aid his situation. Then he would truly know their intentions and yet he may also hear their whimpering thoughts if he actually carried out his task. "This is not a social event. I am here to stop you," he explained as two long shards of crystal formed in hands.

Vos didn't even react to the crystal shards forming, he'd seen far scarier abilities used by demons and archangels. "Stop me?" he'd snort, "stop me from doing what?" If Zartax read his mind he'd find that be was vary calm, he'd also find that the shadow demon didn't want to fight, but would if he had to.

"Stop me from fishing?...From gathering firewood?" there was still sarcasm in his voice, but he was speaking truth, he was doing nothing but living his life. "Or maybe stop me from constantly shoveling snow away from my cave?" those few activities largely took up all his time.

He'd step away from his tree, his body calm and relaxed. "What do you even intend to accomplish here?" he'd ask, taking a few steps towards him.
