Devias seemed like the kind of person who worried a bit too much. No matter what he did, as long as he wasn't trying to actively harm someone or mess things up, it would be taken in stride. It was an interesting impression to get, considering how confident he'd seemed working on homework, but in the end it likely came down to the different kinds of experience. Homework was easy, with right and wrong answers that could be clearly worked out if you tried hard enough.

Humans and their relationships weren't like that. You could do everything right and still be wrong, and it seemed like Devias was sensitive to that.

Despite her habit of commenting on movies, Naoko kept quiet for the duration. She didn't want to spoil things for him, and anything she said would probably do just that.

She waited until the credits were fully rolling before she let her eyes slide back to Devias, a rare smile on her face.

"So? How was it?"

For the whole duration of the movie, Devias kept his eyes glued on the screen, watching as the nicely-animated cartoon played out its story. He paid just as much attention to the TV as he would in a theater, picking out as much detail he can from the cast, as well as the background characters.

He felt the emotions, but the effects were hard to see on his face. However, it was an oddity to him to find that the movie went uninterrupted. He didn't think that was either bad or good, but it was strange, just a little bit more of silence and it would be like he was watching it alone, which again was neither good nor bad.

"I'd have to say that was excellent. The story was well-paced and everyone who played major and secondary roles had their motivations. It was unfortunate for the people in the castle to fall to that curse, especially considering that if they would age at the same rate, the Beast would have been very young, and thus wouldn't be just let a stranger in. And what confuses me is why no one went to check the castle after so long. Surely there would be people who knew of it, merchants at the very least.

But aside from that, it tells a wonderful story. I can see why you enjoy it, and why it was given an adaptation."

"I've seen some theories," Naoko said. "Mostly about why no one found the castle, but-"

Naoko didn't get to finish her thought. All of a sudden she was interrupted, Naoko's mother's face popping around the corner as she glanced between them.

"Is your movie finished?" Naoko's mother said, either not noticing or outright ignoring the annoyed face Naoko was making in response. "Dinner's going to be ready in just a few minutes, so you'll want to wash your hands and join us at the table if you don't want it going cold."

While her mother was staring right at her as she said it, she was pretty sure it was all an elaborate hint for Devias as to what was expected, and she pushed herself up off the couch, heading over to turn the TV off and put the movie back in it's case.

"We can talk about the movie after dinner," Naoko said, unsure of how much time they'd even have.

Right before Naoko got to speak about theories on the movie, her mother announced that dinner was ready. To which Devias nodded in aknowledgement. "We will be there, Ms. Tanaka."

Because his attention was on Naoko's mother, he didn't see his club mate's expression. He stood up and waited as Naoko put away the disc and shut off the TV.

He nodded to her. "I agree." It would let Naoko and her parents ask him questions. He expected it to be about himself and possibly questions about his future and origins. Those were the usual ones, at least to his experience. There would be a lot, he thought, given the nature of the invitation.

Dinner was slightly more traditional than usual, which made Naoko wary. They didn't normally eat what would be considered Japanese fare, but that was exactly what Naoko found when she settled in. A plate with neat little divisions of all the food one might have expected. Steamed white rice, topped with nori. Miso soup. Pickled vegetables. A western style salad (in miniature). Grilled fish. Boiled vegetables.

Naoko squinted at her mother, who just smiled right back.

"We made a bit of everything," Naoko's mother explained. "So hopefully you find something you enjoy. What kind of meals do you eat at home?"

Naoko snuck a glance towards Devias, happy her mother was doing the talking. It let her get answers she wanted but hadn't thought to ask, and her mother liked to cover all topics... even ones Naoko herself might not have wanted to bring up.

The food that was served was well-presented. He had expected as much. With their home so well taken care of, he had a feeling their food would be as equally presentable. He took a moment to admire the preparations before settling in on an empty spot.

"Thank you, Miss Tanaka. The food looks exquisite," he'd say. He could compare it to have been prepared by a catering service, it just looked so professional.

"Well, it is not completely different from the meals here. We have our meats from what could be categorized as fish, cattle and poultry here, soup, shelled creatures, vegetables, herbs and fruits. We don't have direct translations to the food made out of them, but some of them can be considered a variant of the food here, like with curry, one of our dishes resemble it in how its made and ingredients it's made with.

"Oh and there are other ways of processing food for consumption. One of which crystallizes the food into two parts, the first having the nutritional aspects which could be used in other meals or eaten my itself, depending on the ingredients, while the second part contains only the arcane aspects, which is then used for multiple applications such as power sources or replenishment. Some combination of reagents and ingredients create a tertiary byproduct that can either be useful for medicine, repellents, cosmetics and other applications."

It was strange to be explaining something as basic as this, but he knew fully well that even the basics can seem so new and overwhelming to the people here. He tried to keep it informative without saying too much that would make it sound like he was giving a lecture.

Naoko listened intently as Devias explained his culture's food. Crystallization, in particular, seemed like a bizarre thing that shouldn't have fit with food at all. But she supposed, when she thought about it, that things like rock candy did exist. Crystallization did happen to be around food, it just definitely wasn't something that Naoko really associated with food.

"That sounds like it would be fun to eat," Naoko's mother said, showing interest so genuine sounding that it was hard to tell if it was truly genuine, or if it was simply her being polite.

The food was good, and Naoko carefully ate her way through it, doing her very best to be dainty about it and not make a mess.

As much as Naoko had hoped to talk about the movie over dinner, her mother kept up the polite smalltalk instead, and after?

Well, after was right out. The moment food was finished, Naoko's father was cleaning things up, and Naoko's mother was making it fairly clear that--as late as it was--the visit had gone on long enough.

"Do you need someone to walk you back to the dorms, Devias?" Naoko's mother asked politely.

"I suppose it would be. Having grown up with that type of food being commonplace, I hadn't really thought of it as anything but something I eat." Nutritional factors aside. He was vastly interested in the subject as a child, but has since moved onto bigger subjects. Much of the food on the plate were things he had never tried before, yet he didn't hesitate to compliment Naoko's mother on their taste. Barring him not being picky with his food, he found himself enjoying all the new tastes that graced his tongue. Devias was a neat eater, he never dropped anything, not even a crumb from his spoon, and by the time he was done, the plate was as spotless as it could get without him consuming the inedibles and licking the plate clean. He had spent quite a while just chatting with Naoko and her family and it seemed that there was no more time for him and Naoko to talk about the movie without overstaying his welcome. "No need, Miss Tanaka, I will be fine on the way. Thank you for your concern." Turning to Naoko, he'd add, "It seems we'll have to have our discussion about the movie some other time, Naoko." He would then turn to address Naoko and her mother, and her father if he was there, "Thank you very much for your hospitality."

Naoko shot her mom a disapproving look when she mentioned Devias leaving. Naoko had been hoping that he'd stick around to talk about the movie, but she supposed that it was pretty late. Late enough that any conversation would inevitably go into the early hours of hte morning.

Naoko would be sure to see him to the door, with Naoko's mother lingering only long enough to accept his thank you.

"Oh, it was no problem at all. You were an excellent houseguest, Devias. You're welcome to come and visit any time you'd like," Naoko's mother said, giving a small wave before excusing herself to let Naoko say her goodbyes.

"Thanks for coming," she said. "It's... It was really nice to have someone over. Maybe we can talk about the movie after our next study session?"

With another sincere bow to Naoko's mother, Devias said, "I'd appreciate that, thank you, Miss Tanaka." As far as first visits go, this one went great. There were no problems or issues as far as Devias could tell, aside from the minor disappointment of not being able to talk with Naoko about the movie as planned, but she was fine with having it another day. "I would be happy to, Naoko. I'll see you back in the academy." He paused for a moment to see if there was something else to be added before he'd turn around. He decided to open a portal back to the dorms once he was out of sight, just in case that would be seen as rude and could imply that he was in a hurry. However his thoughts were elsewhere and he'd walk a bit too far before he realized. Strange.
