Jude had half expected, when he'd been invited over, to end up being introduced to miss Malivani. It was only fair, considering he'd introduced Alma to his dad, but it didn't stop it from being intimidating as all hell. They'd only been together a few months, and meeting someone else's parent was... kind of intimidating.

Not that he'd realized that when he had Alma meet his dad.

It was a relief just the same when she let him know her mom wasn't going to be home, since she'd be at work. One day he'd meet her, but... maybe not that day.

Jude had pulled on a sweater, but he hadn't bothered to pin up his missing arm. The sleeve was still mostly full, so it wasn't like it was that distracting or anything. He was used to operating primarily with his right arm anyway, so it wasn't a huge deal, and he tried not to let it distract him as he knocked at the front door.

Alma was home alone as she usually was this time of the day and going about her normal routine. Only difference this time was she was expecting company and was dressed as such: a Living Dead Girls t-shirt two sizes too big and sweatpants. Jude... or rather Angelo didn't seem like he was ready for sex yet and she wasn't going to push the issue even unintentionally by parading around in her underwear.

She was in the middle of dusting the living room, the lights out and soft rock music playing over the speakers when she heard the knock at the door. Alma was there in a flash, used enough to the layout of her home to go full speed without fearing hitting something.

She swung the door open, tail flicking like a cat's when she saw Jude. "Hey babe! Sorry to keep you waiting. I was doing some cleaning around the apartment for mom. Come on in, yeah?"

It wasn't a small apartment for sure, but it was nothing fancy either. Two bedrooms, one bath, and a living room that was separated from the small kitchen/dining room by a counter. Alma gave him the quick tour and flopped over sideways in the chair in the living room, her legs kicked over one arm. "Well this is it. I know it's nowhere near as big as Seargent Genovese's place, but it's been home all my life."

If Alma had opened the door in her underwear, that would have been... a thing. A whole thing.

Jude had barely even dropped his hand when the door had popped open, revealing Alma looking casual as anything. He followed her in, kicking off his shoes in the doorway out of habit, and then took the tour, getting used to it.

"That's because Sergeant Genovese's place is too big. Even my house back in Halcyon city wasn't that big. There's so many empty rooms that we could seal off half the house and still have some left over. Especially now that Janelle's living with her mom."

When he moved out, the house was going to be that much emptier.

"Right now it's just me, Sergeant Genovese, my dad, and Roa."

He sunk down on the couch he'd sat on, sagging back and letting the couch just envelope him.

"I kind of like smaller places like this anyway."

"I guess that's true. I never really had much to compare to, really. Most of my friends growing up all lived in the dorms, so if we hung out here or there it was always a pretty small space."

Alma kicked her legs idly while they talked, her tail coiling around one of them so it wasn't just limply hanging off of the chair. "I can heat up some leftovers if you want. Mom said it's fine for me to share some, as long as we have enough to make it through the week."

"Other than that," she continued, turning to look at Jude and smiling, "Sky's the limit. We can do whatever you want."

"That makes sense," Jude said. "I mean, I figure most of the students live in the dorms on the island." Thinking about it, he and Alma were fairly lucky. They both had at least one living parent, which was... a big deal.

"I ate before I came, actually," Jude said. "I grabbed dinner with Sergeant Genovese. I kind of feel bad that we're just... ah, ditching him. He went from a busy house to a packed house and then it's going to be empty. It'll just be him and Roa."

Which was awkward, considering how big the house was. It was too big for them right then, and it'd be downright cavernous with just two.

"Honestly, it's going to sound pretty mundane, but... I kind of wanted to talk about, uh, stuff like this. About our normal lives. I realized a little while ago that I don't normally talk about that stuff, and most people on the island don't ask for obvious reasons, so just... getting to know each other more."

Alma nodded along, kind of listening but also letting her mind wander. It was true that the house was way too big for two people. "Maybe they could downsize? I mean, a house that big is sure to sell. People like their big places. Or maybe he could rent part of it out..."

Looking over at him, Alma blinked a few times. Her face reddened slightly and she flipped over so that she was looking at him right side up. "You mean... you want to know me? And not biblically? That's considered scandalous here, Angie.~"

She laughed and hopped over to the couch with him, tail flicking excitedly. "I'm mostly kidding. Now, what do you want to know? Where to start?"

"Mostly kidding," Jude said with a laugh. "But not all the way. Everyone here seems pretty... against it? Like, half the people I know who are dating couldn't answer the most basic of normal couple questions. Like, I feel like if you asked Lucan what his girlfriends parents are named he'd have absolutely no idea. I don't want to be one of those people who doesn't know anything about the person I'm dating, so... here I am, doing the whole conversation thing."

Jude turned himself, leaning back against the arm of the couch so he could look at her properly.

"Honestly, I'm... not sure where to start. You grew up on the island, right? Did you always go to Starlight?"

"You're right, of course. It seems sometimes like people only want the physical aspect of a relationship. Or like, just sitting there, calling each other cute names and making out in public."

Alma leaned over, resting her head lightly on Jude's shoulder. "Well, starting out, no. We- I went to a little private school for a few years when I was really little. I don't super remember it, but it was one of those places that was religious and anti-demon on the down low. In retrospect, I get why Mom wanted me there, but at the time..."

She shrugged. "That was how I found out. I grabbed a crucifix. The substitute teacher didn't get the memo not to let me touch religious stuff. It hurt a lot and I bit a kid who came to check on me."

"Mom pulled me out after that. It helped at least. The school was expensive. She had to work less, at least."

"I guess..." Jude was going kind of slowly, sort of feeling it out. He knew there was risky territory there. She had a brother, who he knew about. He knew what he'd done. But there was a lot of unclear stuff he had no idea about.

"I guess the idea was that you'd be safer surrounded by religion? Even if that religion would hurt you. Like... putting a barbed wire fence around your kid. As long as they don't get too close to the fence, it'll keep them safer. In theory."

Except it hadn't worked, obviously.

"Was that the only time you bit someone growing up? I imagine you just... I don't know, just drank blood packs growing up. I can't imagine your mom was going to let baby Alma chomp on someone to feed."

"Yeah, it was all blood packs for me. But no, I kinda got a taste for it after that and the next time somebody made me mad. Chomp." Alma grinned and gave a shrug. It was so long ago it was almost amusing. Almost. "I got anger management and my therapist taught me to bite a pen or something when I get angry." A method Jude would have definitely noticed her using from time to time.

"What about you? Was it all high end private schools and winks and elbow nudging about your dad?"
