Nightly treasure hunt

Catria prepared her treasure-hunting supplies: a fluocompact lightbulb, a shovel, a metal detector as well as some rations. However, as for the more... voluminous items, she'd rather use a shopping cart to store all of these items, also because Catria expected the items to be rather bulky if she did end up finding treasure. She knew it was dangerous to go in the Forbidden Forest by her lonesome and, for this reason, she waited for someone else, who seemed eager to take up the treasure hunt from the rumor mill.

She knew that she could use her powers to defend herself, both density-shifting and electrokinesis. However, to use her power of density-shifting as a means to defend herself meant that she had to go from normal to lightweight, and then from lightweight to dense in seconds. At the same time, some familiar figure came to her, looking for his/her companions in this treasure hunt. "Do you expect the loot we find tonight to fill a shopping cart?" Catria asked, when that figure finally came within range.

Getting her fill of adventure, Liney began her trek back out the forest. Roots and branches were all over the place and if you weren't very familiar with the area you would find it hard to tell which is which. But Liney's been here for awhile, and even without the aid of the plants around her, she would have easily found her way out.

Hurrying her pace as she spotted the exit, she found a blue haired girl who looked about a few years older than her who seemed to be getting ready for a long hike. Grinning, she came closer, wanting to find out what they were up to.

"Do you expect the loot we find tonight to fill a shopping cart?" the other girl asked, like she was alreadye expecting Liney. Looking behind her, Liney can confirm that there was no one else there. She wondered if the other was already waiting for someone else. A group adventure! She hasn't made much friends since coming here, maybe she could join?

"Um, you might have mistaken me for someone else?" she says, her grin never faltering, "I'm Liney. I don't think we've ever met before. If you're going on an adventure, can I come?"

<s>((um i wasnt sure if you actually were waiting for someone or the other. so i just jumped in if that was okay??)) </s>

Now Catria will know who Liney is. Her memory is quite good but not photographic by any means. "Yes, Liney, you can come on this treasure hunt. One can never be sure of what one finds, so I'd rather err on the side of having too much space to store the loot than too little. By the way, my name is Catria" But, since the treasure hunt is not meant to last more than a day, there is only enough food for one day of adventuring with three to four people. "In fact, you know this forest a lot better than I do, so I can use your help navigating through this forest"

And her powers are of almost no use at long range in a dense forest, given that her density shifting power is ineffectual at long range unless one wants to risk collateral damage on an even greater scale, so, for all combat purposes, that power is a close-quarters one. Even electrokinesis does not have an effective firing range any greater than that of a pistol; the longer the range, the less effective it is as a weapon. "I can project lightning bolts at various voltages; if it takes 100-150 milliamperes to kill the monsters that lurk in the woods, then what voltage should I use?" she thought, while preparing herself mentally for what was going to come.

For some reason, using electrokinesis really amounts to using herself as a human transformer; she takes the static electricity and turns it into lightning bolts of various voltages to suit the needs. "I can project electricity in order to defend myself. Also, I have several voltage modes, but I can be a little slow to change from a voltage to another, especially if the shift in the voltage modes is great" she said. In a pinch, she can go up to 735 kV but it would be unsafe for her to use a 735 kV lightning bolt in combat; she takes her time to prepare the shift to 25 kV instead. "I am not called the Queen of Electrical Transformers for nothing; I predict that we will find an artifact disguised as an electrical transformer tonight"

"Uh sure, I'll be happy to show you around!" Liney quipped. Twisting her bottle open, she drank half of the bottle before pouring it all over herself. If she was going to go back inside, she might as well be refreshed for it. Besides, there was a stream not too far from the entrance to the forest, she can easily refill her bottle there.

Walking closer, she listened to Catria explain her skills. Liney balked for a moment, wondering if she'd really use her powers against the creatures inside. They were quite amiable if one knew how to handle them, and Liney pretty much did. There were some stubborn ones here and there, but they'd never harm them unless provoked. She decided not to speak about it though and only reminded herself that if anything happens, she'll have to make the first move.

Giggling at Catria's metaphor of being called the Queen of Electrical Transforms, whatever that meant, Liney peered at her watch and looked up at the sky, trying to get a good idea on when the sun will set. With the season, she can be pretty sure it'd be earlier than usual, but they've still got the whole day anyway, there'll be no rush.

Turning to Catria, she asked, "What does the artifact look like? Maybe I might have seen it already?" There were a lot of interesting things inside the forest that sometimes it was hard to keep track. But if she was really specific, and really lucky, Liney might have already seen it and would know exactly where to find it.

Cheeto walked with almost a skip in her step. She had some real luck in the underground, finding all sorts of treasures down there! The 'forbidden' forest seemed like it might be the kind of place people would lose valuable relics of forgotten ages. Or pocket change, that works too. Her little elven lamp from the underground continued to cast its ghostly light in her hand, sending pale beams of illumination far into the night. She had slung a backpack over her shoulders, and in it were some newspapers, a trowel, a brush set, and a good length of ropes. Her powers made little else necessary and she did like working with her hands as well, and who knows? Maybe she'll find something worth wrapping in newspaper, taking home, cleaning up...

Cheeto's big ears suddenly perked up and twitched. There were voices up ahead, high and soft. Sounded like two other girls, Cheeto gulped and stopped in place. They might be able to see her lantern at this place, and this is the Forbidden Forest. Was it regularly patrolled by people trying to keep treasure-hunters and curious teens out? She listened a bit longer, trying to discern motives, tones, anything. Cheeto slowly started to move towards the voices, trying to do so as quietly as possible as she went. Soon Cheeto was able to see the two of them, and one looked loaded for bare as a treasure seeker too! Maybe they weren't here to try and stop people entering the forest, heck they seemed outright approachable!

Cheeto had moved to within several meters of the two of them, looking at the two girls curiously as she fidgeted a bit. Maybe she could go up to them and say hi? They were doing what she was doing after all. It was at this point, however, that Cheeto realized she had the lamp on the whole damn time and was no longer standing behind any foliage to hide herself as she stared wistfully at Liney and Catria.

"I'll do my best not to have to fight, although I can use my power for lighting this 100 W fluocomopact bulb, under 347 volts, if you need lighting" Catria said, but the shift to 347 volts from 25 kV takes about as long as the time she needed to put herself in the mood to use her power at 25 kV in the first place. This 100-watt bulb lighted like a 500-watt incandescent lighting bulb, so she knows that it can provide more lighting than normal flashlights would. Once Catria was done going to a different voltage setting, she lighted up that bulb with her power, bringing the bulb to bear.

"You see, fluocompact bulbs are wonderful: they can provide us with lighting in a pinch" Catria said, holding the now-lighted 100-watt fluocompact bulb in her left hand. Even if the team ended up unearthing other artifacts, Catria suggests the following plan to the treasure hunting party: "If we find the Holy Transformer tonight, I promise that you will get to keep all other artifacts. However, should the Transformer prove to be too heavy to be moved in a single piece, we will share the proceeds and the artifacts, minus the costs of dismantling and transporting the Transformer to the next owner. We will see the treasure much more clearly with this bulb but would such strong lighting be a problem to the residents of the forest?"

Having nearly forgotten to dress himself before leaving his shared dorm and needing to be reminded in his excitement, Ahstonik was now on his way toward the forbidden forest where according to rumor, treasure lay. He wasn’t on his own however, as riding along with him, or on top of him rather, was his former source of annoyance and young master, Aloys. No, he was not giving the archduke a piggy back ride all the way across campus but taking to the skies via his dragon form instead. This way was much quicker and with Ahstonik’s impatience and anticipation for the possibility of finding treasure, it was the obvious choice of travel…even if it meant taking along a passenger. The fly there, although rushed, wasn’t a dangerous one as he was very aware of the passenger he was bringing along and was sure to put effort into keeping himself steady and not to get caught in a large gust of wind. After all, he was only still a child compared to the age a dragon could live up to and with that young age and his own inexperience, came difficulty in flying and controlling those overly large wings of his.

The landing however, was a little more on the rough side, as he practically skid across the ground, groping for dirt, bushes and trees to use as a break. Luckily he managed to stop himself from colliding with the rock wall of a slopping hill and came to a halt just before it. Shaking his head a bit after that, he righted himself before folding his wings in such a way that Aloys would still have plenty of room upon his back without them getting in the way. They didn’t stay completely grounded for too long as something in the near distance seemed to catch the dragon’s eye and he was immediately taking off to investigate. Little did the dragon know, his half run, half attempted flight through the forest; slipping against the ground underneath him, weaving in and out of trees had knocked his companion off his back and he was making the rest of the miniature voyage on his own.

Down from a small hill at the edge of the Forbidden Forest and not far from where he had initially landed, hoped the aforementioned dragon seeking out a certain bright light. Being only a very young dragon, Ahstonik’s true form was quite small and obviously juvenile, though could still be seen as menacing, if not the complete opposite. With limbs he hadn’t quite grown into yet, his gate was a bit awkward and he nearly tripped coming down from the hill. Though his scales which were a mix of deep red and black, as well as the fur draping down from his head to his mid back made him easier to blend into the darkness surrounding him, his eyes shown like bright beacons and his clumsiness made his appearance very obvious. Upon catching sight of the students standing around the general area of whatever it was that had grabbed his attention and caused his sudden taking off through the forest, he paused. He stood there for a moment, those deep golden eyes of his which appeared red at the right angle, wandered over them before they landed on the very item in question.

It was a light that had stricken his interest from afar as it nearly mimicked the gleam of something valuable and indeed, it turned out to be something interesting. His eyes narrowed down on his target, completely ignoring the small creature holding it as he stalked forward a few steps, much like a predator to its prey. After a few careful steps, he outright went in for attack and snatched the lamp from the goblin’s hand before scrambling a few feet away to further investigate this shiny object.

Liney smiled as the other girl mentioned trying not to hurt anything that might come up. Hopefully she wouldn't use it unless it was really needed. She listened as the other one talked about the lights.

Spotting the extra shadow in front of her, Liney turned around to face... no one. Liney turned her to the side in confusion before the ground shifted beneath her and she looked down to see what looked to be like a jaguar like humanoid. Liney giggled to herself as she thought of her own inside joke, "I'm not even surprised anymore!" she piped up before crouching forward and smiling at their new companion.

"Hi! I'm Liney, what's your name?"

Before the other could answer her, the rustle of leaves and a change of shift in the winds alerted Liney to another newcomer. She stood up, calling out to the other and reaching out to pull them aside, "Hey! Watch out for--"

Too late. Perhaps light really was a bother to the forest.

Liney ran forward, just about ready to follow whatever creature it was that attacked them, the adrenaline pumping in her veins. She couldn't help but grin at the excitement of it all. But going against what she predicted, the creature had stopped just a few feet away and grappling with the lamp.

"Um, hello?" she asked it, noticing the scales that glittered in the light. Some kind of reptile, she can deal with that.

After realizing that the creature stole a lamp rather than her bulb, Catria was relieved to see that her bulb was still safe. "Damn, why was that creature interested in such a low-tech lighting solution!" she thought. In a fit of rage, Catria approached the scaly creature while releasing her hold on the fluocompact bulb, now inoperative because she didn't generate electricity. Perhaps the creature had some reason to prefer stealing a lamp over a fluocompact bulb, perhaps not. But Catria would be able to recognize a 100-watt fluocompact bulb at the same distance she could effectively power it.

"Why were you interested in this lamp, while you could have stolen a 100-watt fluocompact bulb? Is it because you didn't have a power supply rated at 347 volts?" she screamed, in the wake of the loss of an important component in the party's adventuring gear: the lamp. She feels left in the dark without that bulb active; in fact she had a socket ready to fit the bulb on the specially-fitted shopping cart she was using for this expedition. But Catria simply forgot to install the bulb so she got to re-install it before she could go further in the forest.

"That was my last 100-watt fluocompact bulb or, for that matter, my last bulb that worked with a 347-volt power supply..." she thought, as she reinstalled the bulb back in its designated socket.

<div align=center>Times like this he remembered the benefits of having such a stubborn guard. Though taking on the form of a slightly abnormal human the majority of his existence Ahstonik's dragon form was out for the night to benefit the duo. Rather than take a hike and waste time Archduke Aloysius was on his back, flying through the sky towards the forbidden forest. Sure, it sounded dangerous. But he had his guard with him and he was intimidating. Sort of. He was still young for a dragon, so his size and features were still soft and small. Yet he was enough to get a fun ride out of and a good way to show off in front of others, something that Aloys was a bit guilty of doing.

Then again, that was on the off-chance he was going to behave.

When they had geared to land, he noticed Ahstonik wasn't as prepared for it according to him. "Ahstonik, slow down!" The young royal exclaimed as he clutched onto his mane for dear life. Unfortunately his death grip was to no avail. Soon enough the young man was sent to roll into the dirt, as the dragon abandoned him in favor of the trail ahead.

For a few moments Aloysius lay face down into the moss, motionless. All is the sudden though he sat up, coughing with the dust now in his face. He turned his head to the direction his guard had bounded off to, blinking as he caught a glimpse of nothing but the tip of his tail Oh fantastic. The thought crossed his head alongside an exasperated frown. It looked like he was going to have to do his least favorite thing in the history of his entire lifespan-

Run.

"Ahstonik you stop right this instant or I'll-!" His voice was suddenly lost in the wind as he took off as fast as his legs would take him. Which wasn't much, unfortunately. He simply wasn't built for it, and he didn't need to when people catered to his transportation needs. So in just a few moments he was already wheezing, his once-pristine leather boots now beating against all different levels of soil. His phone's flashlight was the only thing guiding him at the moment as he stumbled through the darkness. He was losing him, until he saw the red and black mass stop in front of a light. Finally!

Now of course, Aloysius wasn't a very happy camper. Not seeing the people behind him when he arrived, he stomped over to the dragon just like he would have if they were alone. And he would have been intimidating too, if he wasn't stumbling, wheezing, and looking in general like he got hit by a truck. "You..." He gasped "Big... Butt face!" With that he physically tackled him, only to hop on his back before sliding down with a stumble in his step. That did nothing. He stood back up weakly before dusting himself off to glare at the dragon. "You left me to run! Me! You know royalty isn't supposed to get sweaty and gross you-" And just as he was about to continue yelling, he turned his head slowly to see several others lined up; one a strange looking creature that Ahstonik seemed to be harassing. He grew wide eyed and silent. Oops.

Instantly his demeanor shifted as he straightened up. He awkwardly chuckled before smiling uneasily, his round cheeks scuffed up with dirt. "Oh, well hello there!" He bowed in attempts to patch things up. "So sorry about my friend here. He's just excited by shiny things! He didn't harm you, did he?" Yeah. Getting off to a good start as usual. </div>
