Diam shrugged. "Very well. That is fair enough, I suppose."

A grin stretched across his face as Cloe expressed her discomfort. He waved a dismissive hand in front of himself. "I meant nothing so grandiose. The procedure I refer to is the perfectly mundane one. A simple hobby to weather the eons... Though I suppose I could find something if you would prefer your method."

"Nah," Chloe said. "Let's stick to the non-magical thing. I'd prefer not to have my soul bound to a doll if that's cool."

Chloe had heard about dark magics that could bind people's souls to inanimate objects, and she was pretty sure she could jury rig something to that effect if she grew into her dad's soul-contract powers. She had spent far too much time thinking about how horrible it would be to be stuck inside of a doll forever, comparing that to the horrors of living in actual hell.

She sipped at the last of her drink. "So, this is probably a stupid line of conversation, but I'm buzzed, so let's do it anyway. As a vampire, do you find Stephanie Meyers' Twilight series deeply offensive?"

She tried to give Diam a serious look, but she couldn't contain her smile, only barely keeping back the giggles. This line of questioning was a running joke for some people back at the academy.

"A shame then, I believe that would have been an intriguing experience." Diam just shrugged shallowly, and set his emptied glass on the bar.

"Many seek power, and still others seek the powerful. The trope of the knight in shining armor has persisted throughout centuries as a figure of desire. While many may see the perversion of an ancient myth, It is simply what it needs to be to portray it's genre. Horror and romance take a certain amount of skill to combine beautifully."

Chloe didn't know why she expected Diam to know about the jokes or play along with them. "Well said, I guess. But it's still a blast to make fun of that stupid series."

"Was there ever some kind of book or play or something that you had twilight feelings about? I mean... it's something that a bunch of people think is great and it becomes really popular, but you know it's just mediocre at best so you start hating on it?"0

Diam simply nodded at the compliment, then his gaze turned away again, as if trying to sort through a fog of memories hanging in the air. It took him a few moments before the answer seemed to come to him.

"I recall a certain troupe of players that would offen perform outside of the cities, giving pitence performences for farmers and other less educated peasents. I had a particular distaste for their adaptations for shakespears' plays. They took the ignorence of the audiance as licence to butcher the themes and pacing. Their 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' had Puck romantically entangled with Helena. It was particularly abysmal."

He shrugged a little, tilting his empty glass idly between his fingers. "It is not unlike the situation with your twilight, now that I think on it."
