Larisa stared into the steam rising from her cup, questioning if this was really the right thing to do. It was one thing to go through old files and newspaper clippings. Trying to wrap her head around the extensive network her Uncle had set up was dizzying and difficult, though the second lab hadn't had anything useful either. That may have been a dead end, but there was a lot of loose ends to chase down, including this one - the 'delivery' company that had transported 'goods' to and from the lab. Larisa invited the current owner of that company to a meeting, hoping maybe they would know more.

She'd chosen a small cafe near the center of town, busy enough but it was small so most people took their drinks to go. It was a safe place for a business meeting, she knew that for sure.

When Zora had received the letter asking her to meet, she had almost instantly agreed. It had been a rather strange coincidence that, upon moving their head offices to Manta Carlos, she had, late one night, come across the strange and rather cryptic paperwork in a file titled simply, "Semenov".

It was filled with dates, rather odd delivery points of origin and destinations as well as cryptic codes in the boxes where the type of cargo normally went. The boxes were just labelled "organic matter, type Vulpes, Ursa, Castorea..." among other strange latin sounding designations.

Arriving at the small cafe, Zora glanced around the small semi-crowded coffee shop. looking for someone. There seated alone at a table next to a window was a pretty young woman, it had to be Larisa Versailles Semenov.

Nodding at the waiter, gesturing that she'd take one of the coffees listed by number on the sandwich board, Zora walked over to the table, "Larisa?" she inquired politely, "I'm Zoraida del Bosque, current CEO of DB Holdings" she said as she took a seat across from her. "I believe you wanted to speak to me about something - important," she said with a rather concerned look, guessing this was not a social call.

Larisa looked up to see a woman not that much older than herself. It didn't calm her nerves any, knowing that the person running the company had not been the one to deal with her uncle. Her ears were angled, and her tail swished restlessly, the biggest signs that she was uncomfortable.

"It's a pleasure to meet you Miss Del Bosque."

She wasn't wrong. It wasn't a social call, though how to approach the subject with ease had been something Larisa practiced in her head thousands of times.

"You - or your predecessor - once worked with a relative of mine. He would have been a client, with the last name Semenov. You.. would have been transporting live goods, internationally. They shut down about ten years ago, but I was hoping you would have the records?"

Zora raised an eyebrow at her words. They didn't usually transport live animals - not internationally anyways - or she had thought. However, Zoraida along with her brother, Tomas, had only taken over DB holdings in the last ten years, and in the beginning, there was a huge amount of things she hadn't been aware of either. Still, this was not something she felt she could shrug off. It also explained the names in the files and what they referred to.

"That would have been my father... " Zoraida said grimly, nodding at the girl's question about the files. "I believe that, yes, there are a few files with that name on them," she said, her voice trailing off as the waitress placed a coffee in front of her and then left after asking if they needed anything else.

"May I ask what the files refer to?" Zoraida inquired politely, adding, "I'm not at liberty to hand the files over directly... but a copy of them, well...." she shrugged, indicating that anything was possible if the reasons were right.

"Illegal experiments. They would take predator species like bears, canines, felines, manipulate their genes."

Larisa itched at the base of her fox ears, drawing Zora's attention to the out-of-place appendages.

"They uh. Started expanding their material about 20 years ago, but their last experiment didn't go so well."

She dropped her hand, awkwardly clearing her throat.

"They got shut down, but they had a sister lab in southern america. They uh. Want to take over the business, I guess. Mostly the extravagent pet side, not the deadly monsters part."

Larisa avoided eye contact, clearly uncomfortable with the topic at hand. Her fox ears drooped, hands clasped tightly around her cup.

"It's perfectly okay if you can't give me the records, I don't honestly know what I would do with them. Abel suggested I try to track them down so he can keep records of who else might know about my parents'... hobbies."

"Good gods..." Zora breathed, somewhat dismayed by what Larisa was telling her. She had wondered what the files alluded, had referred, to. She had originally thought they had to do with smuggling rare animals across international borders, but it appeared that the truth was much, much worse.

Taking in Larisa's appearance as she told her about the experiments and the other lab, Zora began to notice things about her, her body language, the fox ears, the quiet anxiousness...

"I will give you copies of what I have," Zora started, uncomfortable with the knowledge that her family, and now her company, had been engaged in such questionable and morally objectable activities. "Though I would ask for your discretion in exchange," she told the younger woman. "I need to know how involved we were and if it's still continuing..." she explained, wondering if her brother had continued with their father's activities.

Zoraida was aware that DB Holdings had clients of a dubious nature, and that they often supplied them with items that were questionable... but trafficking for experimentation purposes seemed a line Zora was not comfortable crossing.

Larisa's ears perked up, not having expected retrieving the documents to be so simple.

"Is it really okay? I. I promise, no one will know where I got them. And. And I know you weren't involved beyond the transport, I promise. The lab that I um. grew up in, it's gone, there wasn't a third that we know of. The second lab is uh. mostly legal so I don't think it's continued... But I'll let you know when I find something, yeah."

Larisa relaxed, shoulders slumping as she let out a sigh.

"I'll admit, I'm glad you weren't the one who originally made the deal. I was worried you might side against us and... I don't know. kidnap me or something."

She looked up, giving Zora an unsteady smile, as if trying to reassure her that it was okay.

"I'll have to send the files to two other parties, one that wants to track down the buyers, and the second lab wants to cross reference buyers so they can cut off the illicit deals."
