"Pool... cue?" Michi's brows furrowed, not sure what the nickname would have meant. She'd have assumed he played pool but... that did not sound like a cool sportsy nickname. Well, not that she could complain. "Michi. My friends call me Chi," she said, "I think I'll just go with Linus for you, though." Sure, the 'pencil-neck' made some sense considering he... did kinda look giraffe-like, but nicknaming people based on appearances was not her thing. She didn't need to tell him that though. "Well, it looks like you don't just eat grass though," she said gesturing to his non-human face with her free hand. "I can't really do anything like that. I always just look like this. Anyway, apparently, I got this magic voice stuff going for me but I'm not really allowed to use it so casually." She decided she was going to leave out the hearing voices in her head bit.

"My entire family can transform. I just happened to get shafted. Giraffe isn't much, especially considering my dad's got a dragon form and my grandma's an eagle." Linus always felt that he would have less issue with being a giraffe were his family also giraffes. They however were completely different and much more imposing, causing him no end of grief.

He was perfectly okay not knowing about Michi's ability. After all, not everyone had to go through hoops to be destructive like he did. Who knows, maybe this person could tell him to die and then he'd die.

Linus finished up weeding, and decided to flake for a bit. Technically he still had to clean up the nearby plots, but so little attention was paid to his job that he was safe leaving it be for a while.

"Alright, what do we do now?"

Michi slowly nodded trying to make sense of how a from an eagle came a dragon and from a dragon came a giraffe. The more she tried making sense of it, the more it got away from her so in the end she just decided maybe it was a lottery with a terrible sense of humor. She was thinking about it for a while longer, but for Linus, it probably just looked like Michi had spaced out until he spoke to her again. "Huh?" she turned to him and for a second she looked like she didn't hear him but she continued, "Uhh. Sorry, I was wondering why it sounds so random when you put it that way. Anyway, I wasn't really planning on doing anything and gardening suddenly looks like a better choice but," a pause. "Have you... been around the less explored areas of the school? Or something?"

Linus didn't know either why his family's curse took on such varied forms, or why out of all his relatives he was the least imposing. "It's random as hell, and I'm unlucky. Everything else's kind of too normal to mention."

As a part-time maintenance worker, Linus had access to the service passageways, though they weren't exactly fun to be in. Then again, it fit the bill of "less known places."

"Students ain't allowed in the places I go in, so if you're interested in worker rooms and tunnels that's about all I can show you that I don't think other guys can. Otherwise, I just know where all the plants are."

". If everyone else is too normal to mention, I wouldn't really say you're unlucky," Michi muttered, getting up from her seat and dusting off the dirt and grass that got into her clothes and hands. "But that's probably not my business to talk about." Everything on the island was the opposite of normal for Michi, after all. And anything that wasn't dark voices constantly whispering in her head was lucky. Setting that aside. "About those tunnels," she turned to back to Linus, hands together in front of her as if hiding a smile, "Are they like... tunnels under the school? Secret tunnels?"

"Oh, I meant everything else about me other than turning into a half-ton grass-eater is normal. Exceedingly normal."

Linus could vaguely feel something behind those comments of normalcy, but who was he to pry? He wasn't some deity like the others running around on the island. He wasn't blessed with supernatural gifts that could aid others in their darkest times. He was just a grass-eater.

The tunnels weren't exactly secret to his knowledge. They were just not necessary to most people, who could walk aboveground without issue, never needing to know the secret paths.

"Not exactly secret tunnels. Underground, yes; 'Nam, no. They're mostly just secret because no one bothers. Little to see down there, and if you're not a worker, the places they lead to aren't of much use."

"Oh." Michi had nothing to say to that. Still, if she was gonna say more, she really still thinks he's the lucker one between the two of them. Then again, Linus didn't try to kill some sort of infernal creature through some forbidden magic or something. Michi simply decided to nod. "Well. At least you help grass with their life cycles, right?" As for the tunnels. Michi would have expected the 'little to see comment'. Two things underground tunnels could be: boring passage ways, or underground catacombs. Frankly, she prefers the former simply because liminal spaces give her some weird form of comfort. "So more of... forgotten tunnels than secret, gotcha. I can deal with that. Where do those usually lead to?"

Linus scratched at his head in confusion. He hadn't expected to need explanation for various unused and unremarkable service rooms, storage, and nooks of the absurdly spacious campus that were hidden in obscurity.

"Well, there's one place I actually like. Bit of a twisted path for little reward cause the only thing at the end of it's a small, rectangular, and empty plot but... something about the empty. It's familiar, in a way. The rest of the paths just lead to things like storehouses and dead ends."

The Empty Lot, as he liked calling it, was his one refuge that was only his in this labyrinthine campus. It was a small, nondescript rectangle, nestled in between buildings and unnoticed by everyone. While he always felt some level of ennui, when he was there, it was a little less... heavy.

He had no clue why he was sharing his secret lot. Maybe it was because this person would never find it on their own anyway. Or maybe... just maybe, something in her comments of misfortune told him that she could use a place to slip away.

Little did Linus know, small and empty plot was definitely a place Michi would throw herself in and spend hours staring at the wall. She found comfort in small, isolated spaces -- moreso now, since that was the most silence she could have these days. Although, if that was his own space, she wouldn't have minded searching for another. Surely that underground network had other unused spaces. Michi spent a few seconds not talking, as if she was thinking something over. She didn't have anything to do and she did go out on this walk to familiarize herself a bit with the school. Finding her own personal haunt would be a huge bonus for her. "So if it's not secret or restricted... Can we go there like... right now?"

There was a bit of a pause. Linus didn't expect people to show interest in his little hideaway, tucked in the concrete of the academy.

There wasn't any reason why he could refuse either. The Empty Lot wasn't his, and showing it to a single person was not something he had any reason to not do.

Then again, he had been struggling to find any reason to do anything.

"...sure. I don't see why not... I'll show you where it is."
