Wow, this family was getting big. With her father's hoarding habits, Quintessa was not surprised to be apart of a large family. If anything, she was entirely used to it. The entire gang was like her family. They all had a level of respect for one another, and it was unlikely that any of them would do anything to harm another. And if someone in their alliance fucked up, well....it'd be taken care of. However, this story was about one familial connection. It was about two sisters and the choice of activity they were going to do today.

What was it you ask? Why guns of course! It's perfectly normal for siblings to go out shooting, right?

Quin left her apartment to go meet Shay at the main house. It was one of the safe houses and thus was Klaus'. There was a room for her when she stayed over (which was often), but today she was coming from her own place. She didn't expect her younger sister to immediately be able to fire the more powerful guns, so she didn't bring as many as she would otherwise. ...That didn't mean it wasn't a lot though. She still had like enough of them to supply an army.

She carried a duffle bag. She casually sipped a root beer as she waltzed into the place. The guards let her in without trouble. She stopped once she was in the foyer and put the bag down. God that was annoying to carry. She stretched her arms out and waited for Shay.

Gloves were the perfect thing to wear while shooting guns, but even if they hadn't been, Shay would have worn them anyway. Her clothing style had gotten a bit better living with Klaus (he picked out most of her outfits). By the time Quin came to the door, Shay was waiting for her, hands in her pockets and feigning interest in things around the house to hide her nervousness.

Eroshay hadn't been part of Klaus' family for long, not long enough to be comfortable, but long enough to realize just how large the family was. She was still debating whether she liked all her family members of not. She was a human among demons, it should have felt odder than it did, but they all had a way about them that was so open and accepting. It was discerning. Was it because she was Vito's and Klaus'? Or were they always just like that?

She offered a halfhearted wave to Quin when the other girl came in sight. It was good that Shay was getting out of her room; beyond school, she'd been cooped up in the house getting a feel for things.

It was lucky for Shay that she managed to hide a majority of her surprise at seeing Quin's bag of guns. It was a lot, and Shay wondered if she'd be shooting them all today. That would be a lot of learning to do.

Somewhat bashfully, Shay held up her Glock, looted from a gang shootout corpse. "I thought we'd be starting with this. Am I going to be shooting all those guns today?" Conflicted between excitement and nervousness, Shay grinned. Shooting a ton of guns seemed fun to her, but also a lot of work.

"Probably not, but I wanted to bring them just in case you turn out to be a fast learner. Plus I love an opportunity to show my babies off~"

Quintessa grinned proudly as she zipped the bag open a bit to let Shay take a sneak peek inside. If the girl chose to look, then she would see mostly different calibers of pistols and handguns. However, mixed in was also a shotgun. When it came to shotgun sizes, it was on the smaller end of the range. There was also a rifle hard to see underneath all of the other guns. For some reason, a knife in a sheath sat on top of the pile. Then again, it was Quin. She tended to hoard stuff in her bag and on her being very much like a certain other demon.

Having took enough of a break, she zipped the bag up and lifted it. The assassin placed the strap on her shoulder. Somehow she didn't spill her root beer doing this. She gulped down the last of it and tossed it across the room. It landed perfectly inside the trash can. A smug smile appeared on her face. She didn't even have to use her powers to aim that shot perfectly.

"Alright, now let's go. I like the Glock Dad gave you. I say that's a good start."

If Shay was into it, then eventually she would also have knowledge on how to shoot the big guns. Quin withheld laughter at the thought of the twelve-year-old wielding one of her machine guns. That'd be pretty badass in all seriousness.

Shay was impressed. That much was clear by the way her eyes nearly bulged out of her head as she peered into the pack. She reached out for the knife on top of the pile but stopped just before her hand could touch the hilt. She really wanted a knife like that. Any knife. She'd have to get the money for one. Already her mind was calculating ways she might go about it.

When Quin threw the can across the room and into the garbage, Shay was put off by the surge of admiration in her stomach. It brought that dispassionate mask back to Shay's face as she looked Quin up and down. She wanted to be like that. Confident, skilled, part of the family. Quin wasn't weak, and people didn't mess with her. Not really.

When the Glock was mentioned, Shay pulled it from her waistband, where Klaus had taught her to hide her illegal firearm, and gave it an affectionate look. She checked the safety and the clip before tucking it away and nodding, heading out the door.

The whole way to their destination, Shay was quiet. She was steeling herself. Mistakes would be made, but she had to keep going. She had to learn, no matter how bad she may be in the beginning. She could do this.

She could do this.

She could.....

She hoped she could do this.

Quin snickered as Shay reached for the knife. She wouldn't have been mad if the girl picked it up. So she was into knives like Dad, huh? She kept that as a mental note. Maybe there was some way she could get a cool set of knives for her sister. Additionally, knives were always good for protection and practical uses. Much better than freaking pepper spray. She honestly found the sprays to be pretty useless. You have to target the right area of the face, be up close enough to the person, and hope that they aren't wearing any eye wear or using anything that would otherwise reduce the effectiveness.

It didn't take them long to get to the range. The older sister noticed the lack of conversation, but she wasn't freaked out by it. Then again, maybe she did feel a bit weird about not saying anything. However, why waste energy with small talk? Small talk was dumb. Quintessa opened the door and strolled in. She waved at the owner. He was chilling by the counter as usual. There were sets of eye wear and ear muffs available, but the assassin zipped open another compartment of the bag to reveal she had two pairs. One for each of them. However, she didn't know Shay's exact size so she wanted to test them out first. She pulled out the protective glasses and the ear muffs and handed them to the preteen.

"Try these on. Tell me if it doesn't fit right."

The headphones were adjustable, but the glasses were not. If the glasses didn't work, then she would have to pick from what was available at the range.

Shay tried the glasses and ear muffs on that Quin offered her. The ear muffs fit well, but the glasses were too loose, so Shay picked a smaller pair, and they went on their way.

Truthfully, Shay hated loud noises. Quin may have noticed that she flinched every so often at the gunfire, even as her facial expression barely changed. She held in the silly panic it brought to her body. Sooner or later she would take solace in the sound of gunfire, Shay vowed mentally.

When they set up, Shay pulled the Glock from here waistband and flipped off the safety, keeping the gun positioned away from them. The weight of it was still foreign to Shay, and she wanted desperately to remedy that as promptly as possible. Somewhat shakily, she took aim, unable to keep herself from glancing at Quin as if to ask whether she was doing everything correctly.

Shay recalled reading about people who shot guns and how they felt powerful carrying the weapon. Well, Shay didn't feel powerful when she rose the gun and locked her sights on the target. She didn't feel powerful, but she felt different. She relished the way she honed in on her body, aware of everything around her. Or how she could feel her heartbeat in her fingers as she threatened to squeeze the trigger. She was proud, but not powerful.

Shay's flinching made Quintessa want to giggle, but she refrained from laughing at her sister's expense. This was perfectly normal for someone not used to the ways of firearms or the sound of bullets. As for Quin, this didn't bother her at all. In fact, this rather felt like home to her. Be it within a video game or at the range, she rather loved the sound of gunfire ringing out and hitting a target. She always felt a great sense of satisfaction when she heard the sound of her bullet hit the flesh of her target. It made her proud.

Now it was Shay's turn to learn the way of guns. While Shay was messing with her Glock, Quin was setting up the paper target. Each booth had a long rectangular piece of cardboard with paper attached to it. The paper depicted the figure of a man with several rings on his chest and a bullseye where his heart would be. There were no distinguishing features on it; it was simply the outline of a body with a target on its chest. This would help give the two ladies an indicator of where their bullets would hit.

The blonde backed away as the brunette aimed her gun. She noticed the tween kept looking at her expectantly, as if hoping to be corrected or given confirmation. Her eyes scanned Shay to make sure that she was in a position that wouldn't get her injured or hurt. She didn't want her to mess up her shoulder or hit her face after all. After confirming that that wasn't the case, she elected to just let Shay fire and she would point out the mistakes after. It would be better if the sister did it first so then Quin could explain why exactly the shot missed or didn't hit where she expected.

"Try it first."

The older sibling stated bluntly. There was no way of knowing where a bullet would hit without firing one first.

Shay squeezed the trigger when Quin gave the order. No hesitation, no time to think. She exhaled on the shot and to her, it felt forever before the bullet struck. The sound was louder than video games, and movies made it seem. The gun was heavier, and the smell of gunfire burned her nose. Nightmares had made Shay familiar with the scent, though. Her dreams always moved a little too fast to focus on things like words, sounds, or sights.

"Did I hit it?" she asked Quin, squinting. Shay had clipped the target on its right side. Her aim had been true but had skewed sharply to the right when she had fired. She didn't want to show it, but Shay deflated when she realized she'd barely hit the target. That wouldn't be enough to stop someone coming at her; for some creatures here it wouldn't even slow them down. She bit the inside of her cheek to keep her frustration in check.

"I need a lot more practice. It's a lot different than when you do it in a game." Of course, it was. Shay had known that before she even fired, but she had to say something. "How good were you when you first started shooting?"

Quin almost facepalmed when she saw Shay blink while firing the gun. That was a rookie mistake; one had to always keep their eyes on their target. Additionally she flinched, causing the bullet to go flying to the right instead of dead center. These were all normal mistakes most people made when they first fired a gun. Seeing this informed the sniper what level of experience Shay had when it came to firing a gun. She had some work to do before she could handle anything bigger. The blonde adjusted her googles and casually whipped out one of her handguns. She pointed at the target and fired.

The bullet grazed the side of the target's left hip. It was far enough in to cause injury, but it was not good enough to stop the advances of a determined enough attacker. It also certainly wouldn't kill them.

"That spot was where my first shot landed. As you can see, not all that effective."

She placed the handgun back in the holster.

"Everyone starts somewhere, Shay. You made the same mistakes many rookies do. Number One: Do not lose sight of your target. Don't blink when you pull the trigger. If you close your eyes, then you have no way of knowing what happens in that crucial second. Your target could have started dodging to the left. They also could have pulled out their own gun to fire back with. You need to know what your target is doing."

She stopped talking for a moment and walked over behind Shay. She gestured on each side of her sister for her sister to lift up the gun again and aim. If she did this, then she would reach over to touch her gloved hands.

"Number Two: Don't flinch. I saw you flinching before you even got to pull the trigger. Sudden movements will make you miss your mark. You need to remain calm while you're shooting. Keep your arms steady and take deep breaths. What also helps is if you learn how to aim fast enough so you don't have time to panic."

Her younger sibling had gotten her posture mostly correct, but Quin made just one minor adjustment before moving her hands away.

"Now try again."

Shay nodded to each piece of information Quin gave her. It was all so quick. So much to understand and do in a short amount of time. How did Quin think about all of these things when she shoots? Shay thought most of it must have been muscle memory at Quin's point. She breathed out slowly, as not to make it an irritated sigh.

When Quin moved behind her, Shay took up her position again, allowing herself to be adjusted without any fight. Again, Shay shot the gun immediately when Quin told her to do so.

This time, her shot didn't curve quite as much, nor did Shay flinch; that had more to do with the lack of time to react. Her shot didn't hit dead center, and while Shay hadn't expected it to, she was still disappointed. At the very least, she managed to hit the outermost ring of red on the target. That was something. It still wouldn't stop most creatures, but it was a start.

Shay didn't wait for Quin to tell her to fire again, she just did it. Twice, three times, four. Each of the bullet holes on the target weren't far apart, the closest to the center she managed was the threshold of the third outer ring.

She was exhilarated. It was like having been under water and getting your first breath of fresh air. There was some panic, yes, anxiety, but relief too.

"Any more tips?" She asked Quin.
