Tellios stopped as he felt the hand on his shoulder. He listened and looked over his shoulder. He smiled a bit towards a more sadistic smile loomed over his face. Though Travis was right, he wasn't human. He shook it off as he ran his hand through his head. The sadistic smile left his face as he sighed a bit, the logic in that was almost infallible.

Better an outcast than a Failed Experiment.

"Well, we all have our demons. So to speak." he took a step forward and turned to look at Travis."Look, I cannot fathom the parents thing, I have none. I was created in a lab experiment to create.. Something. I cannot decrypt the information. No matter how hard I try. I have only read 10% of the information I have gathered from where I left in 5 years."

His left arm turns into a an almost pitch black arm, the once looking like flesh and cloth turning into small robots constantly moving around, not stopping, eventually he turns it back to 'flesh and cloth' and he starts to open and close his hands over and over. He leaned up against a wall. He looks over at Travis and crosses his arms. They kind of locked gazes.

"As I understand your sentiments, and these words have some logic in them. In theory, I am not a person. Practicality is debatable. My abilities come from these little ones. I can manipulate them to do as I wish, but I am made entirely of them, with nothing else. One mind, one duty. Me."

He wasn't going to mention that he has some form of sentience, and that he himself was a failure until he reads and gains all the passwords to understand himself and what he can do. That was his own true task. No one else.

Travis raised an eyebrow at his companion. He had just met this guy, but for whatever reason, he felt a strong need to make him even the slightest bit happier. Maybe it was all the general good cheer hanging around the island, or maybe it was just Travis's deep sense of wanting to do something good. He was going to make this boy feel better if it took the whole semester.

How, then, was the question? His recent comments had made it clear that he hadn't really had much connection with humans in his past. Most of his interaction with them had been bad, and he didn't even really know who he was. Travis wracked his brain, trying to think of a way to help him, when a thought snuck into the back of his head.

"Those little things you're made of- are they animals? Or more like robots? They definitely act like a colony, so they must have some sort of animal connection. If they're even the tiniest bit like animals, then I have an idea that might be able to help you get at least a little piece of your memory back. OR, if not, it'll definitely show you your true potential. Maybe you won't feel so down, then."

Coaliander smiled from the floor and nodded at his master, understanding Travis's intent.

"They are nanobots. Or nanites to some people. It is a robotic version of a symbiotic relationship, they act like the cells of a human body, they die after a while and replicate themselves using parts of an old one. Every year I need to inject this form a vial that grants for some that had died fully to be reproduced. Though with in my body I do have the anatomy of a human, a beating heart, lungs hell, even a stomach. None of it is good. it is just for show. It is technology at it's prime for this time." He said trying to make it simple that Travis could understand.

It was far more complex than it seemed, he just gave him a readers digest version. He rubbed his chin. "Not so much my memories. it's more of a.. I need to read the information to learn more. It's not something someone can sit and help me with." he rubbed his chin. "The passwords and coding with in the information I had gathered will grant me upgrades to the nanites. One of them may fix some things, or give access to unfinished coding that I can then finish using the Algorithms I had learned in order to finish them and use them, or even manipulate to my own accord."

He said looking away the whole time. He looked at a few of the rooms up and down the hall trying to find out what to do next kind of, either walk or talk. Travis was making this interesting so he didn't care. He glanced back over to Travis he was awaiting any other question he may had. From what he understood, they could be here all day asking questions.

Tellios didn't think he would mind. Though he was hopefully putting Travis into the understanding he was either tossed out or they let him out as a test to see what would happen.

Travis listened closely to Tellios's explanation. It made sense, he just had to think about it for a bit. So the nanobots were exactly like a colony of bees, or cells. They even replicated themselves. It would be pushing it, but perhaps he could push his power enough to recognize robotic, yet somehow living creatures. Tellios was as alive as anything, so he had to give it a shot.

"Look, I'm not sure if this will work, but I have a proposition for you," started Travis. He was a bit nervous. He had never really directly explained the full extent of his powers to anyone before, let alone someone who was almost a complete stranger. But what use were his powers if he wasn't able to help someone with them?

"I have this power to push animals to unlock their true potential. For example, when I use it on Coaliander here, he grows a bit bigger, gets a bit stronger, and gain the ability to cause fire to erupt from the ground. There's no way he could do that without my help. I know that your nanobots aren't textbook animals, but perhaps i can bend my power just enough to perform that on you, and then, who knows? If you can usually decode things to an advanced extent, then perhaps my power can push it farther and you can decode a tiny bit more?"

Travis exhaled. He was sure this sounded completely stupid. To let a complete stranger pump your body with a weird power just so you can decode something probably sounded rather strange, but he was hoping that maybe he'd try it. Any way he could help.

"If you don't want to try, I understand, but, well, the offer's there"

He shook his head. "That won't work. The speed I an decoding all the information at to read it is at a pace that I can absorb all the information. Think of reliving a memory, or watching a movie a second time, you see new things. I am living them again, reading them." He said rubbing his eyes. "I can decode it fast, but I will lose the information. I am learning things about the project as I go."

He pushed off from the wall to stand up again. He look at Travis's pet. Tellios dropped to a knee and put his hand out.

"Each piece that I can decode and read, gets me one step closing to fixing me. My.. Mentality lets say." he said with a smile on his face. "I appreciate your help, but to do such a upgrade to that would be counter productive to my own goal. I must refuse. Though it makes me happy that you have offered such a gesture of goodwill."

He wasn't sure about what Travis meant about it though. He gave it some thought and he tried to pet Coal not minding any heat or any of that. He wasn't sure if man and machine could work that way. the whole Idea of machines were to do mans bidding, but he wasn't a normal machine as it were. He looked up at Travis and opened his mouth.

"Though, maybe in the future I may take you up on that."

'Ah,' thought Travis. 'Of course he would refuse.' Travis never really learned much about robotics- they weren't really his thing. He just assumed they worked in the same way that animals did. He watched as Tellios pet Coaliander. His best friend really seemed to like the attention, especially since many couldn't pet him on his head or back due to his flames. He was smiling and generally enjoying himself, for which Travis was glad. At least one of them was.

"Well, maybe some day." Travis looked at all the achievements up and down the walls. Who had given them out, anyway? No one knew about the island except the people who already lived there. "Anyway, I'm glad I could at least try to help. No one should feel this bad on their first day. Maybe you should head down to the beach or something after you check out the Ballroom. Get some fresh air."

Which reminded him.

"Oh, the Ballroom! We only got about halfway there! Here, let me show you! And as for a map, I think you can find one in the headmistress's office, if you poke your head in there. Unfortunately, I think we may only have them in paper form... but you should go anyway! The headmistress likes to meet all her students anyway." He was relieved that he could finally push the conversation to a more pleasant area again.

Tellios pulled his hand away, it was charred a bit, but it was fine as the nanobots were exposed as he stood up. He was quite into the idea for fresh air, but was sure that he could just get a map or find one in the school and scan it and make his own copy. But Travis started to walk/

"I wasn't NOT enjoying myself."

He caught up to Travis and his hands in his own pockets while walking. He looked over to him. through the corner of his eyes. With a few questions for him on his mind but he didn't want to go there. So he just asked a question what he was doing here.

"Sooo... You have been here since you were in Kindergarten? All your life? The ones known as 'Foster Parents? Adopted?"

To late, his inquiry list took control before he could even think of the actions effecting Travis. Though he also thought it would be fair since Tellios DID tell a lot about himself he shouldn't have. He could have put him at risk but the Lab can't find him here. He was sure of that, but he wasn't going to tell anyone he might be wanted. Dead.

Travis glanced at Tellios's burned hand, staring at the nanobots as the scurried around, trying to repair the damage. He glanced at his face and saw no pain at all, which relieve him for a moment. He wondered briefly if the nanobots themselves could feel pain. He hoped not as the pair took a left.

"Sooo... You have been here since you were in Kindergarten? All your life? The ones known as 'Foster Parents? Adopted?" asked Tellios.

Travis smiled. Talking about himself was easy. He didn't have to worry about offending himself or saying the wrong thing about himself. Not to mention, after over fifteen years at Starlight, he had sort of detached himself from the real world. Talking about his few memories of it did not hurt, and he did not care much about his parents.

"I guess one time when I was younger, I brought a bear home from the woods or something. I don't really remember much about it- I was quite young. But I guess they got scared and shipped me off here as soon as we got the letter. They're still good people. They don't really write me or anything, but they're still supporting me in their own way, I guess. They're still sending the check in the mail. Figuratively, of course, since Starlight is free, but, I dunno. I used to get pretty upset about it, but I've sort of made peace about it lately."

"Having a family seems.. Nice.. the only 'Family' I had was a Special Ops member who used to one hour each week play with me. That was if I was good. He's... Kind of sort of the form I have taken when looking like a human, I accepted his identity when he was younger."

He said walking down the hall way. He laughed a bit at the way he explained it. He could have explained that one a lot better and he knew it. Though he gave it a shot and he was genuinely curious. He wasn't about to explain his escape.

"Have you visited them? To go see them, just to show them how much you've grown?" He was wondering if Travis had ever gone to visit his family/adopted family at all just to say hello or just to see them. Even if it would be opening old wounds he could get some closure. OR even information on why they sent him out, he seems to have control of it all now that he would be fine.

"I mean- I was curious." He said and sighed. "If you do not wish to respond that is up to you. I laid out a lot right now."

"No, I've never really visited my parents since I left. I've actually never left the island since I got here. There's no real reason to, I've found. That world out there has sort of rejected me. Like how people outside of the islands don't tend to like to move away from their home country unless they have to. My parents did write me one letter, actually. I think it might have been just to prove to the Academy that they still knew I existed."

Travis closed his eyes as he walked. He was remembering the day he received it. It had only been three years ago, on the day he graduated from Starlight. Odd how mail gets to you exactly when you need it to. He had already made peace with his parents' rejection of him. The weather outside was much warmer than usual that day. The letter was much longer than what he'd been expecting when he got it. He could almost feel the coolness of the paper in his hands.

"The letter was actually really long, and I couldn't be sure, but it sounded like they were sorry for never seeing me. They said I had a sister. I never knew about her. She was seven years old at the time. They said she was normal."

The word 'normal' caught in his throat. Travis had never really talked to anyone about the letter before, but he figured a stranger was a good enough pair of ears as anyone. He opened his eyes and seemed to zoom back into the present, latching his eyes on Tellios and continuing to talk with a smile, as if he had never been back in that day.

"Sorry your childhood kinda sucked. I wish you had come here earlier. Then we could have been friends sooner!"
