Move in Day

Tyler rolled his suitcase along the halls, keeping his eyes on the doors so he could be sure to find the right room. He and his sister were moving in today. They'd requested a shared room together, and had been quite glad to discover when they arrived and received their information in Admissions that the request had been granted.

The wheels on his suitcase were making a lot of noise. Tyler hoped he wasn't disturbing anybody. He couldn't help it though. He'd packed it so full that it was too heavy for him to carry.

"Ah, here it is, Taylor," he called out to his sister behind him. He opened up the door with his copy of the key they'd been given and went to step inside the shared living area of their room. He left the door propped open as he entered.

Taylor had been worried about being paired up in a room with someone she didn't know, and had been pleased that she was able to room with her brother. She liked everything to be a certain way, and that was something her brother understood, but a stranger would have to learn. She didn't have the patience for them to have to learn.

Taylor was quiet as she entered the room, looking around. It was a pretty small living space compared to what she was used to, but it would be good for just the two of them. The kitchen was nice as well, and Taylor appreciated that she would have somewhere to cook their meals, rather than have to eat in a cafeteria.

Taylor propped her suitcase up against the wall and went to look around some more. She checked on the bedrooms, finding them to be identical like she had expected, with plenty of room. Taylor left the bedroom, and turned to her brother with a smile.

"I won't mind it here. It's better than a normal college," she said.

Tyler had moved to the windows along the wall in their living area. "Hey, we got a pretty nice view of the courtyard and fountain outside!" he announced. Tyler liked people watching, so that was great for him. He took a moment to pull one of the armchairs closer to the window before exploring the rest of the dorm room.

They had a kitchen, which was nice. He'd probably still eat a lot of his meals in the cafeteria, if only because it was covered in the cost of attending and wouldn't cost anything extra like cooking would.

Tyler checked the view out the windows in both bedrooms. "Do you have any preference for which room you want?" he asked Taylor as he walked back to the shared living area.

Taylor shook her head, "No, it doesn't really matter, they're about the same," she replied. Taylor went to grab her bags, "I'll just take this one," she said, heading into the bedroom that was next to the bathroom. That one didn't have a window with a very good view, so she thought that Tyler would prefer the other.

Taylor set her bag down for the time being, not wanting to worry about unpacking until she really had to do so. She went to the living area, and sat on the couch.

"We should go take a look at the book store," Taylor said, "I haven't bought any text books yet, and we don't really have another opportunity to go get them."

Tyler grinned as he brought his suitcase into the other bedroom. Yes, this one had the better view. He opened it up and started to unpack his things quietly, leaving the door open so he could hear Taylor. "Yeah, I guess you're right. I'd like to finish unpacking first though," he said.

He took his clothes out and started putting them away in the dresser. In the bottom of the suitcase was an envelope filled with cash taken from the last check their father had sent them before they left. Depending on how much everything cost, he should have enough to last for several months.

"Our books were probably included in the cost of attending, though, don't you think?" Tyler said suddenly, exiting the bedroom. "We probably just have to go pick them up. We'll bring some money just in case though," he said.

Taylor shrugged, "It wouldn't hurt to bring some money, they didn't really tell us how the books are paid for," she said, "My guess is that they will at least put forward some money to pay for the cost, but I'm not sure."

Taylor got to her feet and went to her room to grab some cash for herself. She tucked some of it into her purse, and then returned to the living area where her brother was.

"Are you ready to go now?" Taylor asked, "I want to get this done so we can look around, see where everything is. That tour they gave us wasn't very extensive, and I have no idea where to go for any classes."

Tyler waited in the living area for Taylor, sitting down with a little grin near the window. It really was a nice view. He could imagine spending most of his free time sitting here, maybe doing a little doodling. Of course he could also just hang out down in the courtyard. There seemed to be a lot of people down there right now.

Tyler was just starting to wonder where else on campus people congregated when his sister returned. He glanced up at her and smiled. "Yeah, I'm ready," he said, standing back up. "You know, there is a map," he pointed out with a chuckle as he went to their door and stepped out into the hall.

"There is a map, I know," Taylor said, "But the layouts of the buildings could be confusing, and I don't want to be late because I don't know how to get around them."

Taylor followed her brother out of the room, making sure she had her money and the room key before she locked up the door behind them.
