Aluin had gotten much better at not being as afraid, even he himself acknowledged that (even though improving and knowing you're improving was scary). There were still things that triggered severe panic attacks, like pain or the dark or the sound of many things moving against each other. But mostly Aluin was able to keep himself from saying everything was scary, he was able to talk more and a bit louder, and he was even able to hold eye contact for 5 seconds, sometimes more. Papa told Aluin he was doing a lot better and even the scary nice teachers said that. He was even able to walk home on his own most of the time now, because Aluin knew the least scary route home. If it wouldn't be so scary Aluin might actually even be proud of himself. But he wasn't, Aluin was still scared of everything. Some things more than others.
This became apparently clear, when Aluin came across a dogwalker with a bunch of dogs on leashes. For anyone else it was probably a normal sight, a teenager doing their part-time job. But all Aluin saw was many living things, a row of mouths with sharp teeth, barking over each other, moving against each other, slithering, gripping, tearing, the pain, it hurts, someone help...!
Aluin ran. He didn't care that running was scary, Aluin just needed to get away from the many mouths, many teeth, many things, it was too scary, where was papa? All kinds of thoughts from worries to pleads of help ran through Aluin's mind, as he ran to who knows where and eventually ended up crouched in a shadow by a large trash can, covered in scratches and small wounds after colliding with more than few walls and other trash cans. There he sat, sobbing quietly, trying to be as small as possible, trying to forget about all the scary things.
But it was impossible. Everything was scary. Every single thing, and Aluin was just...so tired...
