Aluin had gotten much better at not being as afraid, even he himself acknowledged that (even though improving and knowing you're improving was scary). There were still things that triggered severe panic attacks, like pain or the dark or the sound of many things moving against each other. But mostly Aluin was able to keep himself from saying everything was scary, he was able to talk more and a bit louder, and he was even able to hold eye contact for 5 seconds, sometimes more. Papa told Aluin he was doing a lot better and even the scary nice teachers said that. He was even able to walk home on his own most of the time now, because Aluin knew the least scary route home. If it wouldn't be so scary Aluin might actually even be proud of himself. But he wasn't, Aluin was still scared of everything. Some things more than others.

This became apparently clear, when Aluin came across a dogwalker with a bunch of dogs on leashes. For anyone else it was probably a normal sight, a teenager doing their part-time job. But all Aluin saw was many living things, a row of mouths with sharp teeth, barking over each other, moving against each other, slithering, gripping, tearing, the pain, it hurts, someone help...!
Aluin ran. He didn't care that running was scary, Aluin just needed to get away from the many mouths, many teeth, many things, it was too scary, where was papa? All kinds of thoughts from worries to pleads of help ran through Aluin's mind, as he ran to who knows where and eventually ended up crouched in a shadow by a large trash can, covered in scratches and small wounds after colliding with more than few walls and other trash cans. There he sat, sobbing quietly, trying to be as small as possible, trying to forget about all the scary things.
But it was impossible. Everything was scary. Every single thing, and Aluin was just...so tired...

It was the end of the school day and Rem was just heading home as usual, floating along while his winged backpack floated alongside him. It was a normal enough trip until he thought he heard something weird. He stopped in the air and kept silent, listening closely until his head turned to the trash can. There was a small child, crying in behind there?

He floated down next to it, landing gracefully on the ground and then dropping to his knees. He spoke in his most comforting quiet tone, hoping not to scare the already clearly upset kid. "Um, hey there small child, what is the matter?"

Normally Aluin was on his guard constantly, never missing a single thing that might threaten him. But now he was shaken up, even more than usual, and thus didn't realize someone had approached until they spoke. Aluin flinched violently and backed up so fast that his back and the back of his head hit the trash can with a loud BANG! Aluin had brought his arms in front of him, ready to protect himself from...
a boy with a golden ring on his head and white wings and white robes and white skin and light hair. So much light and bright colours, it was scary. Aluin didn't lower his arms.
What had he said again?

Aluin took a while to answer, he was shivering violently, his red eyes wide from fear. Aluin wanted to run again, but the scary white boy was blocking his way, and despite the terror a part of Aluin's mind knew running wouldn't help. He needed someone else to help him, because he didn't know where home was and he missed papa. Aluin wanted to have a nap in papa's arms and hug Mr. Whale and fold flowers from tissues, not sit in a scary dark alley that had a smell that made Aluin's nose hurt.
So, Aluin forced himself to talk, with an extremely shivering, small voice.
"L-Lost...saw...scary things...now...lost..."
Aluin bit his lip, not hard enough to cause pain, and kept his eyes firmly on the ground, still pressed tightly against the trash can and arms before him. The nullification bracelet clearly visible on his wrist, a screaming warning to everyone of Aluin's unpredictability.

Saw scary things, now lost... So the kid got scared and ended up lost? Alright, this sounded like something he could help. But judging by how shaken up the kid was, he'd have to act carefully if he wanted to calm them down. His voice remained soft. "Now now, everything's going to be fine now. I see no scary things around here now, they must have moved on."

He noted the eyes and the bracelet. It was clear that this kid was no human, but the way they were acting made it clear that they were no demon, angel or god either. His halo wouldn't be required.

"You say you are lost? Where were you heading to? I can help take you there if you would like?"

Had Aluin been braver, or more jaded, he would've laughed bitterly. No scary things around here? Everything was scary. This boy was scary, the alley was scary, the sky was scary, the voices coming from the street were scary, and Aluin himself was scary. Scariest of them all.
But Aluin had no voice to say all this, nor the guts. So, he remained silent, and let this boy think his voice and words were actually making a difference.

The boy asked the dreaded question as to where Aluin was heading to, and he had no ability to answer. Aluin remembered where his home was, but couldn't remember the address. Thankfully Aluin had something just for these kinds of situation. This wasn't the first time Aluin had to rely on other people to find his way.
Slowly, with very shaky hands, Aluin reached into his pocket and pulled out a laminated card. It had an address and a phone number printed on them, and the words "In case Aluin is in trouble or lost call this number or return him to this address". Aluin held it out, holding on to the ver edge of the card to his and this boy's fingers wouldn't touch.

Rem watched with curious eyes as the kid held out the laminated card, quirking his head and taking it. "Um, thank you." He looked at it a moment then nodded. "I know where this is." After taking a mental note, he'd hand the card back. "Thanks."

They still seemed so shaken and they wouldn't even look at him... The people around here didn't seem to understand how angels worked, a fact that seemed to become more apparent every day he spent on this backwards island. As much as he would've liked to have taken this kid right back to the parent, he figured that it was more important to do what this kid was comfortable with.

"So, your name is Aluin? I'm Rem and I'm a guardian angel, which means that so long as I'm here, I will do everything in my power to keep you out of harm's way. Now, this part is up to you, do you want me to guide you home or would you prefer I call your guardian and we wait here?" One would be quicker, the other would involve less moving around.

The card was immediately returned to Aluin's pocket after the boy handed it back to Aluin. The card, although it was also scary because it was hard and thin and shiny, brought a little bit of comfort to Aluin. It made him feel like papa was near and that he cared about Aluin, it helped with the fear just a little bit.

The boy spoke again, but this time Aluin tried his best to listen even if it was scary. He said his name was Rem, and he was an angel. Aluin knew about angels, he had learned about them in school, but he didn't know much. Remembering things was scary...
Rem presented Aluin with two options. Aluin hated choosing, it was scary, why couldn't the angel boy just choose for him? That was less scary. But still, Aluin needed to choose. He could choose if he wanted to have cool or warm water when papa asked, he could probably choose in this situation.

Aluin didn't want to move, it was still too scary and this boy was too bright. But Aluin knew papa might be busy, and papa would also be happy if Aluin was a little braver than usual and let a stranger take him home. Papa got calls about Aluin often, Aluin wanted to make it easier on papa...
Aluin swallowed, and after opening and closing his mouth for a few moments he was able to utter.
"P-Please...t-take me...home..."

Alright, they were going on a little adventure then. This was good, he could save the day and prove to this guy that angels were great and then the parents would obviously feel the same and they’d pass it on and sooner or later everyone would get it.

He took note of how hesitant they were, beginning to question what could’ve happened to cause a kid to be this frightened. He would’ve liked to have known more about what the scary thing was before all this, but he was going to have to leave it for the sake of helping Aluin calm down.

Still not completely understanding the nature of Aluin’s fear, Rem held out his hand to the child. “Okay, take my hand, I’ll guide you home in no time.”

Aluin stared at the hand Rem was offering in horror, trying to desperately think how he could avoid holding the hand of someone he didn't know. It was terrifying, Aluin didn't want to hold anyone's hand who wasn't papa or maybe the nice scary lady who used to take care of him.
Aluin gave Rem a scared glance, and then very slowly and carefully lifted one finger.
"J-Just...one finger...please..."
This was a compromise Aluin had used with papa a lot when they had first met, it was a lot less scary to hold just one finger instead of a whole hand. Then the other's hand wouldn't envelop Aluin's.

Holding out just his pointing finger, Rem would give the boy a warm smile. “Okay, Just one.” Then he’d stand up and wait for Aluin to hopefully do the same so that they could get away from the trash can.

“Alright, this won’t take long at all, your house isn’t too far. Stay brave for me, okay? Again, I promise nothing will bring you harm so long as you’re holding that finger.” He’d flap his wings slowly once just to keep his backpack flying in the air next to him.
