Michi was staring off in the distance, not even aware of how long had she been doing so if her notebook hadn't slipped from her lap. And even that nearly didn't bring her back to the present if it didn't make a clatter on the cobblestones. Michi stared down towards the ground, finding her pen and notes on the floor before tiredly sighing. Today was a particular day for the voices in her head. Some of them were speaking clearly, though they still spoke about nonsense and Michi couldn't care too much to listen to one voice for too long. Michi found a survey from the school bulletin a few days ago and somehow she thought it was a good idea to sign up so here she was, sitting in the school courtyard. She was contacted about the meet up time but she decided to arrive early just because she didn't want to deal with the voices in the isolation of her room. Right now, the voices were just distracting. She had been taking down notes so she had something to start off when the other student comes along -- or well, she was trying to take down notes. Except all she had were scribbles on a page after a couple of minutes. She could probably make sense of some of them if she tried but critical thinking was hard today. Another sigh came out from her, a slight bit disappointed with her lack of progress. Maybe she could have just brought one of the books she borrowed from the library.

Adelaida was honestly surprised that her contact was this early. She decided to arrive a little bit earlier than the promised meet just to make sure she would be there on time, and unexpectedly, the other person had exactly the same idea.

She'd floated around a survey, looking for people who had voices in their head. While normal science would declare these simple auditory hallucinations, here on this island, normal hallucinations were rarer than supernatural interference.

Her own voices were quiet, having been sated with a minor act of controlled burning earlier, before she got here.

She inspected this girl, scribbling away to no avail on her notebook, before she introduced herself properly.

"Hi. You must be here for the interview. I'm Adelaida, and you don't have to provide a name if you don't feel like it."

Michi, having been too distracted with her own voices, didn't notice the college girl arrive. For a moment, she would have thought it was another one of her voices but realizing it didn't seem familiar, she turned to where she thought she heard the voice and lo and behold, there was indeed a person present. "Oh, yes, that's me," she said, standing up in surprise to meet the girl who'd introduced herself. Her instinct had her pull her notebook up close to her chest to hide it, but considering her delayed response, she was pretty sure the girl -- Adelaida, had already seen the contents of it. "It's fine. You can call me Michi," she said pulling her things to one side of the bench to make room for the other. "So yes, the interview, that's what I was here for," she heard a buzz in her head, not even sure if that was just her or the voices mocking her for the awkwardness of her phrasing.

Adelaida sat down and opened up a small pouch, offering it to Michi. "Candy?" she asked, taking one of the chewy lemon squares inside for herself.

She pulled out her own notebook, covered in notes of pristine quality, almost as if they were printed out of paper. In the notebook she recorded every detail all of the people with voices in their heads had told her, and she made sure it was all in place.

"Let's get right to it. Tell me of these voices in your head. I'm not going to ask for specifics yet, cause I'd rather hear from you what you're willing to talk about first before I start prying."

Adelaida left out the fact that she too was struggling with these voices, which were currently asking her to set the bench and everyone on it on fire.

Michi, ever so simple, happily accepted the candy with a 'thank you'. She didn't even ask, she just smiled before popping the candy in her mouth while Adelaida set up her notes. From where Michi was sitting, she could clearly see how clean her notes were in comparison to her own class notes filled with indistinct scribbles. She looked up to Adelaida when the girl spoke, idly rolling the candy in her mouth. "Well. I wasn't born with them, so I'm sure they're supernatural, for one," she began, rather matter-of-factly. At the same time she had said that, she heard the chattering get a bit louder -- one voice even whispering that she should choke on the candy she was eating. It could have easily shown on Michi's expression, but she could only sigh. "They're not helpful, nor are they even consistent. It's more like... having a crowd of people in my head and some of them won't mind their own business and get reactive to things I say. I don't really mind talking about it, but it's a bit all over the place."

"Most of the others I've talked to have had more consistent themes with their voices. Typically, they ask or demand certain specific things of their hosts. Do yours have any interests, or specific... triggers?"

Adelaida took down notes as she asked, comparing everything to her previous subjects. So far, other than the presence of a voice, there was not a lot of common ground there to find.

"As an aside, have you ever... complied with the voices? Maybe they asked you to do something minor, and you went along with it. If you have, I'd like to hear details."

There was a more pressing question to be asked, but Adelaida knew you had to show that there was absolutely no judgement first before asking it. Michi had mentioned acquiring the voices, and the tendency for such cases was that they gained it in a rather traumatic manner that was not easy to discuss.

Just like hers.

Michi hummed thoughtfully at the question. Triggers? She'd never considered that. She was too busy thinking of finding any sort of patterns, she could never seem to focus when they go into an uproar. "I haven't really found a really specific theme," she admitted. "The voices have never really stopped since I got them so I haven't figured out any triggers yet. I do know they tend to get louder when I actively try to shut them out. I've also noticed they react whenever I talked about my abilities. " As she spoke the voices seem to change tones. She wasn't sure to what this time, as she was busy organizing her own train of thought. "Most of the time, they just sound like people chattering around me, but there's a few times there's voices that... come "near" me, if that makes sense? They're not demanding anything; they just put weird ideas in my head like how I should jump off my dorm window and stuff like that. She was hoping that did not sound strange. Then again, if she wasn't the only one with voices in her head, maybe that wasn't something too new. "I... have not complied to the voices that have come near. They go away after a while, so I don't really have that much of an issue with that part. Most of my problem comes from how loud they get to the point of screaming."

"Hmm, interesting. Of everyone I've talked to, your voices are the hardest to distinguish as supernatural. All of these are, out of context, symptoms of someone with suicidal ideation rather than the voices of some sort of extraplanar entity."

Adelaida jotted down more notes, trying to pick up any pattern in the details. There was no actual indication these weren't mundane auditory hallucinations. In fact, they seemed rather intent on being seen as such.

"I'm only taking notes, by the way. Sadly, I'm not equipped to actually help you address these voices. All I have is a bit of knowledge in mundane psychology, and my own experience with voices."

"Well, I could wish it was just that," Michi told her, laughing bitterly while the buzzing getting a bit louder once again. She wouldn't really know, but it would have probably been easier if that was only the case. She sighed softly, remembering Lizzy who she thought she was doing a favor. It turns out, it was a bad idea for he both of them. "A friend of mine can take over bodies, and she asked to use mine for a bit last week. She ended up struggling with the voices just the same so I was starting to think they're not just inside my head." Another sigh came out from her, slowly starting to worry for her own mind. What if Adelaida was right, after all? Delaney and Rowan had their own whispers in their minds, but they were never the same as hers. Now, she was even doubting if it was even remotely the same. As the thought of it became more apparent, the chatter in her mind started getting messier than earlier. "I-it's fine though. Sorry, if these weren't what you were expecting."

Adelaida took more notes. This was the first time she'd heard of a voice that carried over on possession. Then again, she didn't have many friends that could possess someone else.

"I'm intrigued by this swap you described. Are they still experiencing it even after the swap? Such a phenomenon... Sounds like spiritual parasitism if that's the case. As expected though, everyone I've spoken to has a different case from myself."

Adelaida willed fire to gently flow out of her fingertips, using it to draw a circle in front of her chest, where her heart was.

"I have voices myself. It's vastly different from yours however, because I assume you still have a soul, else I don't think you'd have been able to swap back."
