The young man froze for a moment. He had tried to hide it, but she had obviously noticed. Oh, well, what was the sense in lying to her? He hated lying and was bad at it, so there was no point in doing so. "Yeah..." Nicolas replied in the same soft tone. "But it's ok. Like I said, I can't feel anything." He smiled, and started walking again toward the balcony.

Mery still felt bad, whether or not he could feel it. But he probably didn't want her to fuss over him, like she didn't want him to fuss over her. "Okay." She replied. Pooka started walking again, and Mery followed.

Nicolas quickly opened the doors to the balcony, and stepped outside into the night air. It wasn't that cold, which was good, since he hadn't brought a coat and he didn't think Mery had either. He waited for her, unsure if he should leave the doors open her closed and guessing she would say something, but not knowing if she would.

"So..." he began, trying to think of something to say.

Mery dropped Pooka's leash, knowing he wouldn't run back into the ballroom, or anything like that. She tilted her head up. "Is it dark?" she asked.

Nicolas looked up at the sky as well, and slowly shook his head after a few moments. "Not really," he said. "The moon's bright and the stars are too, there's barely any clouds." He smiled somewhat. He wished she could see it, and wondered if she was permanently blind. It was most likely she was... but he would never ask. It would be rude to do so, in his opinion.

Mery smiled. She tilted her head to the side as he spoke. "Are there alot of stars? Or just a few?" She asked. Without thinking, she reached up and touched the tiny scar between her eyes.

"Just a few," Nicolas answered. The sky may have been cloudless, but it seemed like there weren't as stars out tonight as there usually were. He noticed her touch the scar on her forehead, and the question popped out of his mouth before he could stop it. "Wha — " He quickly started fake coughing, just to cover up the fact he had been about to ask her what it was. He didn't think it would be a good idea to do so.

Mery nodded. She moved her hand away from her face. By the way he was acting, she could sense what he was about to ask her. She smiled slightly. "I was 10." She started. She waited for Nikki's reaction before continuing her story.

Nicolas slowed and quieted his coughing, then stopped altogether when he saw that smile on her face. She had been ten? He was guessing that was when she went blind. The golden-eyed boy nodding his head, since it seemed she had more to tell. However, realizing she couldn't see that, supposed he had to speak. "Go on...."

An unreadable expression passed over her face. Mery continued, as Nicolas had requested. "I was ten. It was during a Christmas play. There was something wrong with the wires holding on of the lights, and it fell and hit me right here," She placed one finger on the scar, then moved it quickly. "I was in a coma for a few days. When I woke up I was blind." She smiled. "So now you know."
