"I see... and what if I do not like anything about them? I cannot lie and say I enjoy their clothes or hair if I do not."

The question was obvious to her, and possibly to Ishi too given that he at least seemed passingly familiar with the Fae. She knew how to obfuscate her words and speak in vague uncertainties... but if she needed to compliment people, that complicated the issue a bit.

The elf stalked around the room as she considered this, poking around the beside table and crawling onto the mattress to see if she could tell what the pillow's filling was made of. Feathers, possibly. She really wanted to know what kind, but imagined that ripping open the pillow to find out would be frowned upon.

Tanniv's question was a good one but Ishi felt like it was common sense not to give a person a compliment that you don't like or whatever. "Then don't compliment them you don't have to compliment everyone every time you greet them. A compliment is just something extra to add hopefully make a person feel more comfortable talking to you. I think."

Ishi watched Tanniv move around the room and examining whatever caught her interest.
"You are very curious..."

He then just slowly blinked and returned focus to what they were doing.
"Alright. Do you want to try greeting me again? The more practice you get the more natural it will feel."

"Supplementary," Tanniv said with a nod, seemingly understanding compliments at least a little better now. "Like these pillows. Unnecessary, but a welcome addition." She pressed her hand into the soft fabric, pulling back after a moment with a strange look on her face.

Those big, bizarre eyes turned back on Ishi and she shrugged, pulling a fingernail to her lips to whittle down slightly with her sharpened teeth. "Phrase is: mother of invention is necessity. But curiosity is its father. I think."

But he wanted her to try introducing herself again. Repetition was important, yes. So she slunk back into the closet and waited what she felt was an appropriate amount of time. Closing her eyes, Tanniv pictured him in her mind for a moment and thought up her compliment.

She stepped out of the closet, back straight like she had seen him do before. Shoulders squared. Walking like a person and not a feral child. She smiled, showing her teeth again; it was still a strained gesture but she was definitely trying not to force it as much.

"Hello, I am Tanniv. Your hair is lovely, how do you achieve that?"

Ishi watched Tanniv carefully as she went into the closest. He then waited for a few moments for her to step out and watched her performance. Ishi didn't find any problem with her performance. If he had a gold star he would give it to her but for now she will just get a thumbs up and a smile.
"That was good. You are doing very well at this."

He then suddenly frowned. "Oh. I should warn you to be careful with compliments. The most common response to be complimented is being thanked. Which is something that I am not sure will bother you or not."

"Other then that I do not think there is much more I can teach you about introductions. You know understand all the basic fundamentals of it. You seem to be a fast learner which is good."

Ishi stood there silently and started at Tanniv for a few moments. He was thinking on what he could try to teach her next. "We can continue practicing introductions if you want or we can move on to something else. I will leave that up to you."

"I will remember this... I do not wish to be thanked, and have become frustrated with the cavalier nature in which the locals just throw them out."

Trilling slightly, Tanniv crawled onto the edge of the bed and crouched there. The way she sat, so much like an animal, one could almost imagine a tail curling around her body and ears flattening back curiously. "I believe I understand the greeting. I will practice with my friends. But what else do you know, do you think will help?"

"At the moment, that is all I can think of for greetings." He nodded. Ishi couldn't think of anything else that he could teach her about greetings but if he did, he would just have to let her know later.

"Hmm." Ishi stared unblinkingly at Tanniv as he thought about what else he could teach her. "I will give you some advice. I think the way you behave is fine. You don't need to change much to fit in with the society here. The only people who would have a problem with the way you behave is probably those not too familiar with Fae and people who are more used to human culture. Basically, behave the way you want to. If you want to....act more human I can teach you more human etiquette."

"Act more human..." Tanniv repeated, mimicking Ishi's voice as she pursed her lips and pulled her knees to her chest. She then swapped to a gruff, masculine voice that was very reminiscent of a sailor. "I am not... refined, is word I am thinking. My friends are mmmmmmmroyal. Dig-ni-fied. Maybe human is proper? As I say, I do not understand people. I understand chemistry and machines."

She didn't really believe him that she would be fine to be herself around Val's new fiancee. She knew that her friends accepted her, but she also had a not insignificant inclination that their loyalty and appreciation of her would never have crystalized if she had not been as good a hunter as she was. Her voice changed again, this time becoming child-like and filled with a tinge of fear.

"Our people are hunters. These are not. They are something different. Human, I suppose. If... if I cannot adapt, then I will be left behind. Understand, yes?"
