Top hat scanned the crowd, but anyone who caught her eye was already with someone, and most just looked like the same blur of dresses and tuxedos. She wasn't really one to talk, but damn, some of these costumes were really boring. The women had probably just thought of this ball as a chance to wear a fancy dress and had not put any imagination in their choice. She had at least picked this ridiculously flamboyant hat, that even now got caught on someone else by the veil thay fluttered after her. Top hat tugged it off and sighed, making her way back to the refreshments table. Did they have any alcohol here? Probably not...

She nodded making a mental note of that as they danced. What brought her there? She looked around making sure everyone was going about their business.

“You know dancing, mystery, romance. What every girls wants from a big fancy ball. What about you? Are you looking for that special someone?” She looked over her dance partner he wasn’t terrible looking from what she could, he could very well be waiting on someone.

Kind chuckled a little bit. He remembered going to his first masquerade because he didn't actually want to go. It was more of a courtesy he was made to do. But he gradually enjoyed them a little more, and used them as an opportunity to freely socialise. He rubbed the back of his neck with a smile. "I used to not really like them, actually. They've grown on me over time, though." He finished drinking his punch, but didn't get anymore.

He considered Heather's question. Well, most of them had been similar to this one. He was even wearing a suit and mask he had worn previously. "Well, I guess a lot of them are like this one. I've worn this suit before, and the mask. They both fit me fine still, so may as well." He laughed. "I have been to a couple where the aesthetic was a bit different. But again, only a couple." He shrugged.

He nodded as he leant himself against the wall. It was obvious that he didn't know how to dance and yet he had given it a go. He wanted to give everything a go now that he had the opportunity. There was still a slight worry that Crashed Wave would suddenly snap again for no apparent reason so he thought it would be best to avoid anything that may upset him.

The question made him think. Now he had to think of a name that sounded cool but was still mysterious. Did he use a regular name or some sort of code name? He didn't want to come across weird or cheesy. After a moments thought, he replied with confidence. "Call me Overflow," he said as though it was his superhero alter ego, though as soon as it left his lips, it sounded dumb. "Or whatever you like," he quickly added.

'Just try to have fun.' That was exactly why she was there and she was trying her best. It was as if a wall that she hid behind was blocking her from enjoying herself. Somehow, she would have to get past that wall, whether by knocking it down completely or removing it brick by brick.

When they were on the dance floor, he pulled her in closer. That was then when she tensed up a little. A complete stranger was in such close proximity and it felt wrong. Normally, if a guy tried anything, he would get a fist to the face and that instinct was screaming at her, telling her to get away and not allow herself to be so unguarded. This man wasn't aiming to hurt her, she had to remind herself. It was only dancing. She nodded, a furrowed brow concealed by her mask before she told herself to just enjoy it. Placing her other hand on his waist, she relaxed a little as they began to dance. "Have you been on the island long?" she asked, wanting to know exactly who she was dealing with.

James Logan

James would continue to sip his punch, watching as people went about the ball, hoping his true sight ability would pick up on the outline of the person he was looking for. It was a useful ability and was always on, so there wasn't any point in him trying to avoid using it. It'd make the game much shorter than originally intended, very few could hide from him anymore.

All the while his sharp ears would be picking up voices, searching for a familiar one, finally he'd pick it up. Humming he'd turn to look in the direction of the familiar voice, smiling a little as he did.

Crashed Wave relaxed himself a little but he didn't feel like leaning on anything. He reminded himself that he was supposed to be being friendly and trying to meet people. Which sucked, since people were supposed to dance at Balls and he definitely didn't know how to. Frustrating as hell.

He wasn't completely sure, but Overflow seemed like he was maybe a little scared of him? Crashed Wave knew he wasn't perfect at being nice, very far from it, but he could try. "Overflow is fine. Better than just calling you New or something. I guess we both have water themed names then," he gave a small smile. It didn't even occur to him that the name might have been a reference to computers or something.

"I was thinking about going to get something to eat, you want someth-," he paused as he looked over to see the food and drinks table just mobbed with people. "Damn, might have to knock some people out of the way for that. Think that would get me kicked out?" He grinned and even he wasn't sure whether he was joking about doing it or not.

Shiro Yoshida

Shiro would enter, her elbow linked with her friend's, "ah it's all so cool looking," she'd grin, "come on Isabela, let's go get some snacks then hunt down your prince charming." She'd lead her friend to the tables, humming a little, "this is going to be fun."

"They do suit you well, I like them. They're very sophisticated."
Heather said about Kind's outfit, and smiled happily. She thought about his answer, so masquerades were all pretty similar. Well, the ones Kind had been to were. Heather couldn't really imagine anything being quite like this event, it was so mysterious and beautiful and wonderous. Unlike anything she had ever seen. Maybe she could come again next year and then see if it was the same.
Well, if she would be allowed to come.

Heather glanced at the dance floor, kinda dreamily. If only she knew how to dance like that. Heather only knew dancing in night clubs and such, not in a ball wearing a pretty dress. She looked back at Kind and glanced at her feet, fidgeting a bit with her enpty glass.
"Mr. Kind, um, since you seem to be familiar with masquerades, can you dance?"

Isabela was half dragged in by Shiro, and she adjusted her mask with her free hand, making sure it was properly in place. Her dress was pretty short, and Isabela could feel the breeze on her thighs. She was wearing white stockings, and shoes that matched in colour with her dress. Isabela's steps were a bit wobbly, she wasn't used to the slight heels on her shoes, and the curls on her shoulder length golden hair were tickling her ears. All in all, this whole getup felt strange. But Shiro seemed happy, so Isabela just sighed a bit and followed after Shiro.
"Why are we looking for a prince charming for me? You should concentrate on yourself and your own fun."
Isabela answered Shiro with a perfect British accent, and smiled a bit at how excited Shiro seemed.
"Although I will certainly say yes to the snacks."
