Everto plodded into the Hospital Wing, Marine once more in his arms. His dark hair was falling into his eyes, but he barely had the will to flick it away. Gently placing Marine on a bed, he flopped into a chair beside her. She seemed to be in great pain. Watching her, eyes full of concern, he thought about the last time he'd brought her here. It had been his fault then, and it was partially his fault now. If he hadn't been so insistent... No. It was the darkness.Waiting for a nurse, or anybody, to come over, he watched Marine silently. No... Marine, please. Not again.

(Uhhherrrmmm... What's writers block O.o ))

A nurse came next to Marine's bed, shaking her head and lifting up her patient's sleeve. Her eyes widened at the Black Mark, and she ran to get a doctor.
When the man saw the mark, his eyebrows rised, and he took a sample of blood off her arm. The nurse turned to Everto, "Son, do you know what happened to make this girl bleed, to make the mark activate? If you knew, it would help us find out how she might have..." the nurse broke off, and turned to whisper something to the doctor.

The nurse and the doctor stood a few yards away, they were talking, thinking that the boy that was out of earshot, "At this rate the poor girl most likely won't make it through the night. I've never seen anything like it. It's like she broken away from reality, and that boy may have awoken something in her that hadn't been-" the doctor cut her off. "That hasn't been up for a long time. I know. I've only read of something like this. They don't really call it anything. The last patient who had it died a few hours after they got it. This girl must have had endured great pain, maybe worse than this, but still did not try to stop it. I'm guessing... the boy has something to do with it. Family, Friends, even Love. It could have been anything. Anything in the world. But just something that ment a lot to her."

The nurse spoke up. "I'm a girl, and I went through this when she was this age. Boys, boys, and more boys. I couldn't get em' off my mind. Maybe these two had a romance going on before the attack. Maybe she was one of them involved with the summoning and got this thing. Then she lost all feelings. I bet this mark acftivates when she has feelings back. That way, the only feeling she has is pain, hatred, frustration, ecetra... Poor girl. She must have gone through a lot of pain just to show feelings... For a boy." the doctor nodded. "I like your ideas. So, she tried to show feelings, most likely love, to this boy and had pain. I'll write it on her report, so the other doctors see it. If she makes it through the night... I hope she does, she's got a lot of explaining to do, let alone the way the way the boy will react when we tell him she might die..." the nurse and doctor walked away.

Everto watched Marine, not really listening to the conversation going on only a few yards from him. He had caught a few words, thouh, and had easily figured out that neither of the two expected Marine to survive the night. No, he kept whispering the word within his mind, as if it might somehow make Marine better. Marine, you can't die. I won't let that happen. In spite of his near-desperation, however, he was frustrated. He now knew that it was his fault she was like this, if he hadn't come back she wouldn't have seen him and her feeling wouldn't have surfaced. If he hadn't been stupid enough, selfish enough, to have practically forced her to see him, she wouldn't now be comatose, near death. He blinked back tears.

"Marine, you can't die. You can't. Don't give up, and I know it'll all be fine." The words were barely audible, but somehow Everto didn't doubt that she had heard. Somewhere within that motionless body was the real Marine, the Marine who must be fighting to return to the surface. He figured that she must have blacked out, her mind separated itself from her body in an attempt to prevent itself from experiencing too much pain. He knew that it could happen, but had never actually seen it occur. "Marine, come back to me. You know you can." He knew that, when the doctor returned, he would have to face what he already knew, and he would probably be told that she couldn't hear him either. But Everto didn't care. He felt it better that he talk to her, it gave him something of her to hold on to. Twice now he'd been into the Hospital Wing. Twice now it had been because Marine was injured. Twice now it had been his fault. He would not, could not, bear to be responsible for her death.

Marine forced her eyes to crack open, hardly noticible, but enough that she could vaguely make out the situation. Everto was speaking to her, 'Marine, you can't die. You can't. Don't give up, and I know it'll all be fine.', and that made her freak out a bit. Die?! Is that what shall befall me? I've got to move! she thoguht, straining to inch her hand over a bit. it's no use! I can't move at all! This is bad, really bad. she closed her eyes again, her real self sinking back in and the asleep-and-almost-dying Marine returned.

The nurse and doctor watched the boy. "I really think he's out of it. Is he drinking? That may have been what activated the mark. Now he's maybe sober and thinking and speaking about whats he done. That poor poor girl. I wonder what relationship she has to him. More likely had to him." the nurse said, and the doctor nodded in agreement. "Maybe he hit a sore spot of her emotions, bringing back memories by the ton. Very sore memories, by the looks of it."

Vaguely aware that he was being watched, Everto fought to ignore it. He kept his eyes firmly on Marine's, though he could feel the gaze of not only the nurse but the doctor as well on the back of his head. Why can't they just leave us alone?! He thought angrily, before realising that he didn't want to be left alone. Taking Marine's hand in his, he fought tears. Is this what I have become? He thought to himself, watching Marine helplessly, Someone who hurts people wherever they go? Twice now I've almost killed her, what if this time I suceed?... His thoughts trailed off, becoming abstract, intangible. Words and images that not even he understood floated through his mind, tempered all the while by the knowledge that he could very well have just made himself a murderer. Finally he could stand it no longer.

Standing, he let go of Marine's hand and turned to face those so-called "medical professionals". Cold anger flared in his eyes, but it was not directed at anything in particular. But the doctor wasn't to know that, and the piercing stare that he gave the man probably didn't help. Furious at the man's lack of action, lack of explanation, as well as at himself for again landing Marine - the only person he could ever remember truly caring about - in the Hospital Wing yet again, he no doubt appeared even more intimidating than usual. Suddenly Everto was beside the man, his fury lending strength to his vampire skills. Skills such as speed enough to move seemingly invisibly.
"Well?" His voice was full of impatience, and it held a superioristic quality. "What is it? Shall she live? Or shall you pay the price of her life?"

The doctor turned to him, used to this situation. "The first question is partly unknown. Some call it a Dark Mark. Others just say it's a curse. Basically, when she shows emotion from her past, or any kind of emotion at all, she gets pain. She was hard set on getting whatever she did out, that is my theory why the pain is so big." he thought a moment for the next question. "She's lost enough blood to have died some time ago. But she's held on somehow. Definetly something to do with powers. But, son, there's not much we can do. For now at least, anything we try to plug up that hole with disinegrates (<SP?!). So, all we can do now is wait. Unless you have naything that can wake her up..."

"WHAT?!" Everto was by Marine's beside again, having apparently teleported there. His eyes shone with the fire, white-hot flames dancing, obliterating any emotion that one might have seen in his eyes. It was a mark of just how angry he felt, that, despite his efforts, the fire was still showing. He was dangerously near to losing control, just as he had so many times. "How can you do nothing?! You're doctors, for crying out loud! You're supposed to know how to heal people!" Everto couldn't accept that there was nothing to be done, he wouldn't. Doctors were supposed to be smart, good, people who stopped death and made everything alright! Weren't they?

Sinking into a chair beside the bed, Everto once more grasped Marine's hand in his own. The anger he felt had warmed his own flesh enough for him to realise just how cold she was. Looking down at her pale hand, he felt the anger abate, slightly. The fire in his eyes died, replaced by a sort of weary defeat. It was his fault, and he had no right to be angry at what he had done. His fault. My fault. The words spun through his head, over and over, until he was almost dizzy. Blinking, he brought himself back to the present. Softly whispering to Marine, he could still feel the doctor's eyes drilling the back of his head.

"Sorry." It was a single word, softly repeated to her, over and over. Everto could hardly bear to see her this way, and yet he didn't have the courage to leave her. Then an idea came to him. Not moving from his place, he looked up at the doctor. "You said she'd lost a lot of blood, yes? Well then, have you even considered trying a blood transfusion? I know she'll probably bleed it out again, but a few should keep her going until the wound closes over, which it will eventually." He wouldn't even hear of what would happen if it didn't. A transfusion should, anyway, give her the strength to return to consciousness. Hopefully. She would no soubt need to remain on a drip for a few days even after she woke, but it was worth a try.

'The Dark Mark, having had Marine's sleeve slip back over it, had stopped. Just, stopped bleeding. The blood onMarine's arm was already dried and crackling. She groaned and reached up to rub her ear. "I get it. I get it. Don't do that." she mumbled, yawning. She leaned up, staring at Everto. Then it all came back to her. The piano, the words, the hospital, and Everto. The name jingled in her head. Like bells. She stared at him then the opened-mouthed doctor and nurse. She blinked. "It happens all the time, no need to be so surprised." she grumbled, grumpy because of her uncioncess state. She smiled. "But I haven't been thi talkative in awhile. Now, I've just got a big mouth." she sighed, plopping back down on the beed and blushing. "Do I have an overlarge zit on my nose or something, cause yall're staring at me... Really weirdly..." she kept one eye on Everto and the other on the doctors and nurses.'
The hope flashed through Marine's head. Maybe... If she could move. These things had happened all the time, but not this large. The blood that came out was replaced at an alarming rate. She would be fine. A little shaky, but fine. Unless she wanted to skip class, then she could moan it away. The thought brought a smile to Marines face.
But this, this was on her face.

Watching Marine, Everto almost passed out with shock. She seemed fine, but how could this be? It defied everything he knew about humans, and he had no doubt that it mystified the doctor as well. Glancing over at him, Everto could have laughed at the look of shock upon the man's face. That is, if he hadn't been so shocked himself. Seeing the man's eyes slide over to himself, Everto scooped Marine up and hugged her. He was so relieved that she was fine, he couldn't care less about what the doctor was going to say. And he was going to say something, Everto could tell. This man didn't seem the sort to let such a matter rest. Setting Marine back down, Everto looked back at the man, such coldness showing in his eyes that he hoped that man would have the sense to walk away. But he didn't.

"Well now, I see what's happened here." He began to wander away, muttering something under his breath. Everto caught the words "black magic" clearly, and it infuriated him, that anyone would accuse him of not only deliberately hurting Mfarine, but of using black magic as well. The fire returned to his eyes. Suddenly in front of the man, Everto had become a truly terrifying sight. Fear flashed in the doctor's eyes. Lifting the man by the throat, Everto slammed him against the wall. "Watch what you say, old man. I heard you. I use no black magic, and I am not drunk. I never was. You mind that." And then he was gone, having stormed out of the Hospital Wing, leaving the man gasping for breath on the floor againt the wall. He quickly got to his feet and muttered to Marine, "You might want to chose your boyfriends better. He could have killed you." Then he left hurriedly.

Marine blinked. It all passed as a blur execptwhat the man said. She looked as if she wanted to strangle him. "HE IS NOT MY BOYFRIEND!" she yelled, wanting to lunge out of bed and severly injure him. She sighed and leaned back. "Did Everto really almost kill me? Again? He didn't do it. I did. I went and told him everything. Yep. My fault entirely. Heh, poor Everto probably feels terrible." she sighed and turned over, staring out the window that was next to her. Strangely, she was a group of kids standing not to far away. They looked as if they were agreeing on something. One boy from the group wandered to some girls and point towards the hospital wing. She blinked, and caught a nurse. "Is there anything wrong with the school, maybe? Any news?" she asked.
"Hun, you and your mark are all over the school. Most likely rumors, but I think you should stay outta it." the nurse moved on, but Marine kept staring out the window.
