Maria shifted uncomfortably in her high chair, her elbows propped against the desk, as he waited for her name to be called. They were getting their lab partners today, someone they would have to work with for the rest of the semester on the series of lab reports that would make 70& of their grade. She shifted again, nervous while just thinking about it. In all honesty, she was a little afraid.

She took another look around the classroom, taking in all the people who were still without pairs just like herself, a stone forming in her throat and slowly making its way down to her stomach. She didn't know any of those people and the very thought of working on something so important with someone she didn't know-or (please don't let it happen, please!) didn't like-was making her nauseous.

Then, as the last two girls in the room were paired with each other, she gritted her teeth, making a fist. Like hell she would let it happen! She would get an A on this project and her partner was going to help, even if it's some guy who doesn't know a first thing about science! She'll just silence him to death until he begged her to stop and allow him to help. She was sure that the type couldn't go too much without hearing their own voice-which made her power a perfect one for torture.

'Maria, Shepard!'

Sebastian sat quietly as the class seemed to buzz in excitement about partners. From what he gather, it was a long term partnership that would be used to complete lab reports as well as other miscellaneous activities. It sounded rather daunting. Since he didn't recognized any of the students he sat in fear. Although he was very intelligent and could compensate for a useless partner, it only made or more work. The bigger problem would be if he had an over excited partner who simply wanted to know everything about him in detail. He shuddered to himself over the thought. Since this was his first week in a public school, as apposed to his extreme private schooling, he had never gotten the chance to work with this type of scenario.

He scanned the room as pairs began to form. The teacher appeared to be creating the pairs. I suppose this is the better method. i'm not sure I would be able to ask someone to be my partner. What if they already had one. They would just stare at me like an idiot and.... his thoughts were spiraling out of control and he began to draw himself inward.

"Maria Shepherd" the teacher called. Although it was not his own name, it was the first one to have a last name that started with S. His name would be called soon. He pushed his thoughts aside for a moment to listen.

"You will be paired up with Sebastian Sezrech",the pronunciation of his last name had a rough 'ch' sound rather than the accurate 'k' sound.

"Umm...It's Sezrech ma'am" He corrected her uncomfortably. Under normal circumstances, he would have let the mistake go. The problem was that this was his last name, something he was proud of. Also, if he corrected it now, he wouldn't have to do it later.

"Right, my mistake. Sebastian, Sez-rek, you will be with Maria Shepherd over there"She pointed a finger in her direction before continuing down the remainder of the list.

It was then that his thoughts came flooding in again. Now what? Do I walk over there? Does she come over here? Do I greet her? yes that sounds like an excellent idea. A greeting. This should be easy He put up his hand and gave it a quick movement that looked more robot than friendly. It was then that he realized his facial expression was also lacking considerably. His smile was probably better described as an attempt to show his teeth. To top it off it only lasted a brief moment. Oh man, I hope she just didn't see that. Why is this so difficult?Everyone else can do it. He looked at his classmates with admiration as they casually started to discuss their plans for either the lab or their weekend. It was hen that he realized, he still had not made a clear decision of whether to move towards her or wait. Based on his previous actions, he slumped into his chair in a way that showed his self defeat.

Maria hated to say that the ... Sezrech... no, wait, he said it was said with a k, so... Sezrech? Uh, it still didn't sound quite right. Um, what was his first name again? Sebastian was a little weird. He looked as if he was going through the steps for a greeting rather than doing it naturally as everyone else, and at some point he simply seemed to collapse into himself. She wondered if he was okay.

Feeling a little uncomfortable to be the one approaching first, she bit her lip and kicked herself in the ass mentally for being so shy and waiting for a guy to step up, before hastily picking up her things from her desk, dropping half of them on the floor in the process, before picking them up again and throwing them on Sebastian's desk.

Only then did she realised how rude she must have seemed, blushing like a tomato immediately. Um, uh... Hi?

Yeah, that's a greeeat greeting, Maria., she thought to herself, rolling her eyes mentally. You had something to say about him being weird? Noooooo, it couldn't have been you. Not with that kind of first impression!

She almost snorted at her inner sarcastic voice before remembering that she didn't want to seem rude and controlling herself, straightening her back.

So, um, she still couldn't control herself and her profound blush, can I call you Sebastian? I don't want to miss pronounce your last name.

That sounded incredibly stupid, for just adults called each other by their last names, but at least it was a start.

After his crushing defeat at an attempted greeting, Sebastian was hunched over his desk in his own world. It wasn't until books were tossed onto his desk that he righted himself. He froze for a moment will all of his hair standing on end.

The girl had appeared at his desk. It was a small step but perhaps they could talk about the plans. Right because that went so splendidly well last timehe mocked in his mind.

he looked up to face the girl, which wasn't that far. She was fairly small. Part of him wanted to stand to compare their heights out of curiosity, but he found himself quite still. maria had asked him a question about using his first name.

"Of course you can. My younger sister, I mean the one that goes here not the one at home, is the only one who really goes by our last name. Well aside from our parents I guess. Sorry. You probably don't really care about all of that... He created a few fluent sentences, but most of them were not really related. She had only asked him if she could call him by his first name, not about his family. Deciding that he must clarify his answer he managed a calm "Yes Sebastian is fine"

It was only then that he realized the girl was blushing. A half smile crept across his face. It was kind of endearing to see someone as nervous as he was. The smile quickly faded as he shook his head and asked, "Is Marie an appropriate title to address you by?" It seemed a logical question since she had asked him the exact same one moments before.

She looked at him strangely for about a second, before shaking her head and reminding herself of the few things she had learned here, the first one being: never judge how somebody speaks. They were all from different parts of the world, and it was thus impossible that some of them don't have an accent. Though with Sebastian it wasn't the accent as much as the very construction of the question that was the matter, she still kicked her brain, and smiled.

Well, while it is hardly a title, Maria is my name, so yeah, I guess, sure., she chuckled at the end, releasing that they were both nervous as hell, and that it was kind of funny.

You have a sister?, she asked, making small talk. It must be good to have somebody familiar close., she nodded her head to herself, approving of her next question. Do you live together?, she hoped she didn't come out as rude, yet again, but, really, at some point they would have to communicate and one of them would have to say something so it just as well might be her.

I'm only asking because we need to make plans for the weekend., she still explained. If you live alone somewhere in the city, we can work there, if not, we would have to work around curfews and rules of both dorms, as well as library hours. So, what do you say? She really hoped he wouldn't say 'You really are to noisy. ' She was already blushing enough.

After answering his question Maria proceeded to ask a few questions of him. His had not prepare himself for this. That wasn't entirely true. He had prepared himself for questions about the assignment. He just didn't think his family would be brought up so quickly. " Yes, I have two sisters. One is 15 and the other is 11. Only the older came to school with me though. Well not with me but around the same time. Thankfully we don't live together. Not that she is a terrible person. Not really anyway. She is just outspoken. She only lives a few rooms down from me in the apartments. I'm sure you will meet her, due to the fact that she is over for dinner every night." He seemed to rattle off information quickly and with a little more confidence. Perhaps now that he had made a complete fool of himself it could only get better. At the same time he hoped that she would not ask him many questions about the middle sister. She was after all, quite abrasive.

"I'm sure my place would work fine. The neighborhood can be a little disruptive after school due to the others getting home from school, but on whole it's fairly quiet. Would your parents be kind to the idea of you being alone at my place? Not that anything would happen.." He stammered the last sentence quickly realizing that it sounded a little presumptuous.

"I'll just be a moment, I need to grab the supplies for the first section of the lab." With only minor fumbles, he was feeling quite proud of himself. Outside of the conversations with his sister, he had only talked briefly with the administrative assistant. Even then it was a point blank answer and the occasional head nod.

As he stood he took a quick reference of her height since she was still standing. She was definitely smaller than he had originally thought. His tail made a quick flick of amusement as he continued passed her to grab the supplies. The break from the interaction was warmly welcomed. He felt a sense of ease wash over himself.

(OOC: What exactly is the study on? Are we doing microscope work or things more associated with chemistry? In your response feel free to note whatever materials Sebastian is picking up. He is fairly intelligent so he would pick the correct supplies. Aside from that anything flies.)

Maria looked after him. Was she seeing right? Did he really have a tail? And how she didn't notice that before?

Shaking her head again, she gave herself another mental kick before starting to write down the plan that could work for her. She already saw that he was clever enough, and paid enough attention, to know which lab supplies they were going to need (a microscope, some special journals, and a few specimens the teacher had already prepared before-hand), and he really seemed nice enough, though a little strange, but, well, couldn't the same be sad about herself, and just about anybody else on the island? So, bite your lip and shut up, Maria!

Adding a few funny drawings at the end of her schedule for the weekes and as her attention wavered, she waited for him to return.

Luckily Sebastian was able to manage the microscope, specimens and journals back alone. Judging by Maria's size, she may not have been able to manage all of them without risking the chance of dropping one. He carefully made his way back to the table and set the materials down.
As he sat down the situation of having a girl over sank in. He had never had a girl over to his house that wasn't a tutor. And since most of his tutor's had their masters in the subject, it wasn't uncommon that they were much older. So in short, he had never had a young girl over to his house.
"So your parents won't mind you being over at my house alone?" he prompted as he sat down.
His mind began to work in over time.I should probably clean my house a bit more. Or are we going there later today? Did I leave anything out that would be offensive to a lady? Did I leave my towel on the floor? Although it was unlikely that any of the worries were applicable, they were beginning to pile up.
Looking over Maria's papers he noticed a schedule. It would be the perfect time to ask and clear up the the first two worries."So, which days are available?"

Her parents? Oh, yes, she had completely forgotten he had asked about that... As she had also forgotten to call her parents yesterday night, and oh god, she hoped they hadn't called the school because of that, or the police, but knowing them it was quite possible, and she should really start listening to that stupid voice that read daily announcements in the mornings 'cause it was reaaaaally possible that there would be a phone call from the director for her and... What was she doing again? Oh, yes, her partner had asked her something about her parents, again.

'They are not here.', she said, shaking her head. 'They stayed back home with my brothers, so... Yeah, it should be fine. I kinda forgot to call them anyway, so... Yeah.', she bit her lip, suddenly worried about her parents worrying, and feeling really, really guilty generally and... Yeah, she should really focus, the boy had spoken again.

'Since it's weekend I don't have any mandatory classes, but I have a few power control lessons scheduled for the late Saturday afternoon and early Sunday morning. Apart from that, I'm free.', she said, pointing to the part of the page she wrote those two things at, right above a funny drawing of a cat (funny because she really couldn't draw and the cat looked like a potato with ears).

I suppose that's a relief. Her parents won;t be there to hound him. Although he had never experienced hateful parents, he had often seen it in animes and television shows. He wasn't sure it was a common occurrence, but didn't want to chance it himself to find out. Maria's parents seemed to be absent enough that they wouldn't mind. Are they absent for another reason, or is it truly because of her brothers? Better not ask. It is better to tread lightly for now. The last thing maria needs is a schoolmate psychiatrist.

"Thursdays are a bit hectic for me but other than that, I can't foresee any conflicts. Would you prefer to meet today and simply start or tomorrow once we have had more time to prep ourselves? Either is acceptable for myself." Sebastian appeared to speak confidently but knew that either situation could possibly send him into a slight panic. If they went over today, he would have no idea how to start. His mind would whirl about whether or not the house was clean, despite knowing full well that the house was always tidy. If it were tomorrow, he would drive himself mad with all the possibilities about how to welcome her to his house. A dinner, a warm greeting or pretending that either option was 'uncool' and attempt to play it off as casual. Casual was much to difficult for him to handle. Having a female over, no matter the circumstance was a big deal to him. And without proper warning his sister may make an appearance.

Sebastian looked at the drawing. His swiveled to a slight display of confusion. Is that supposed to be me? It was a very vague representation of a cat figure. It wasn't that he was vain, as much as he was self conscious. he was aware that he was the only student with cat ears in the room. Since he was prone to sketching classmates, it didn't seem that far off base. Out of embarrassment he dared not ask.
