"I will most certainly consider your most generous offer," Vladimir stated as he thought about what Selkris's had said. He was not sure about wanting to inconvenience his contact, but the offer was also extremely tempting.

"You are quite right. They say hope is the last thing we lose," he agreed.

Then, curious about Selkis's last comment, Vlad looked at him directly while asking, "What's the story behind that? If you don't mind me asking?"

Selkiris’s face fell into a frown, however his hood obscured it from view. His hand moved carefully to the ring on his finger and lightly rubbed it. “It is...too long of a story to tell and far to depressing to talk about in a place like this. I simply...wish to see my wife again. That is all there is too it.” A tear rolled down his cheek as he thought about it, dammit why did he always get so emotional about this. “Some stories are better left forgotten and that sounds silly with me being a librarian however I have lived long enough to know this truth.”

Vlad frowned slightly at this. He knew heartbreak when he heard it. He had experienced it once too often in his lifetime. Patients and their stories, often sad stories plagued his consultation room. In fact, he had come to call it, somewhat jokingly, his room of lamentations.

"It sounds like you loved her a lot," Vladimir said in a somewhat neutral yet kind way, a tone he often used with his patients. It was a tone that said "I hear you and sympathize, but I will only prod if you want to talk about it".

Selkiris lightly shook his head. “I need to move on from her....but I just can’t. I..I promised her we would stay together for eternity. I tried so hard to keep my promise. But the damn index withheld information. They knew and didn’t tell me until after she passed.” Tears seemed to suddenly materialize and fall from inside Selkiris’s hood. His emotion died a long time ago, yet his dead heart still beat vigorously for his wife.

Vlad felt compassion for Selkris and just nodded in understanding. He knew what it was like to lose somebody you cared about.

"Eternity is a very long time, my friend," Vladimir pointed out. "Maybe you still have a chance to be together. Who knows?" he shrugged, "I, myself, have died many times and come back. And some cultures believe in reincarnation where life is nothing but an endless cycle of rebirth," he added, trying to give Selkris some hope.
