He ran with her then mounted the other horse, he understood her and rode alongside her. He wanted to help and protect her, he never wanted harm to come to her. He knew things but never let things effect his innocent heart. He may love someone but he'd never let anything he wasn't ready for happen. He loved Jen and wasn't ready to give her up, she had stolen his heart at first glance. He didn't know what he'd do without her.

The two rode a swift path, taking time to go around main roads. Soon they reached Antiquilla. Jen dismounted and let her horse go. She signaled for Mez to do the same. The two needn't ride a boat, Jen could just float them across.

Mez did as Jen motioned, he then stopped thinking about the city for a second. He thought about a safe place he remembered that would be safer than going where they were expected. He ran to Jen taking her hand he whispered "I know of a safe place that he wouldn't expect us to go." He said leading her towards the center of town.

Jen followed him, nodding and shivering in the cold. She wondered where it would be safe from the hungry eyes of Jason, even as hidden as it may be. It wouldn't be long untill he caught up to them, hidden or not. She spotted where they were hiding and smiled...

It was Mez's orphage he grew up in, it wasn't a place that a "prince" would suspect. No one in his past knew he was a prince, so why would Jason suspect he went to a obivious place or even that he was raised there. He may have knew Mez was a prince but he didn't know his past.

He entered the orphage and led Jen up to his old room, sure that the woman who was like the den mother would be up in the rooms lecturing or something. He led her up knowing this place would've been untouched by uncaring hands.

Jen smiled at the small children who were running around. A few stopped and stared at them, well, actually, most of them did. When they were in Mez's old room, a few faces looked in from a crack in the door. There were giggles outside, then a little girl came in, looking at her feet meekly. She walked up to Jen and held up a bunch of wildflowers.
"They are for you, Miss..."
Jen smiled at the girl.
"They are beautiful! Thank you very much,..."
The little girl stirred a bit, looking up.
"Oh! I'm Jennifer."
Jen's smile got wider.
"What a pretty name. I'm Jen. Would you like to play?"
A few more girls were edging in. Jen had started to play pattie-cake with Jennifer, and a few of the girls were looking up at Mez, as if expecting something out of him.

He smiled warmly and bent down to their height pulling something from his pocket. It wasn't something normal guys carried, but Mez loved kids and loved to make people happy. Out popped a little stuffed teddy bear, he had always been good at telling stories when he was young and often found joy in making a child laugh.

He put his hand in his other pocket pulling out a funny looking man toy. Then from his sleeve he pulled a doll. He remembered going thru cities where kids lived on the streets and since then kept them on his person so he could give them a story anywhere.

His eyes twinkled in a non hypnotizing way, he decided to reinact the story that just happened.

The children crowded around the two and watched them play. Soon they were all listening to the story, and Jen was sitting next to Mez with Jennifer in her lap. She was telling part he missed, but they both left out parts that wouldn't be proper for the children to hear.
Soon, the story ended, and they children had crawled into their beds with smiles. Some were still giggling. Jennifer was asleep on Jen's lap. She gently laid her down on the bed and stepped quietly towards the window. She looked out into the street. It was nearing nine o'clock, so all of the people had gone to bed. Far in the distance, the mainland stood, Starlight Academy was there. Jen wondered if she would ever be able to go back without a madman out to suck her blood or kidnap her or something like that.

Mez walked into the room quietly trying not to wake the children, he smiled at their faces. The floor creaked halfway to Jen, he winced glancing at the children. Suddenly pain shot through his leg. He remembered the wound, it started to bleed slightly again. He continued to walk tiptoeing towards Jen trying to not wake the children.

He soon reached Jen and smiled lightly, putting his arm on her shoulder he looked out the window with her. He slipped his arm around her, "Jen, I'm sorry for everything that happened with the madman. I've been thinking over and over again at how I can protect you... I first thought of marriage but I realized I'm not ready to become a husband just yet, but if I retake my throne in Antiquilla I can protect you easier and not marry just because of the fact of protection. I do love you so much, but I feel that we still need more time before such a thing is possible."

Jen's face paled as she remembered something.
"Oh, Mez-kun..."
She said sadly and quietly.
"The first people that kidnapped me, they said that you have to marry to take the throne. But you can't marry me... Not that I don't love you Mez-kun, It's just I can't... I'm not strong enough yet."
She started to cry softly as she hugged him. She wanted to be with him for the rest of her life, but if it was to protect him, she would let him go. His kingdom needed him now more than ever, and Jen knew he had to take his place.
