Jack waited eagerly, then shot off the wall when Sushi said go. The cat fae didn't often find himself bragging (mainly due to the fact that he didn't often make friends on his previous adventures) but he felt confident as a swimmer. But even with his literal centuries of experience, he couldn't keep up with the merboy and was seconds behind his kid when he finally hit the wall. He breached the surface of the water again, shaking his head wildly again to loosen any water in his ears.

"You are one fast merkid, Sushi." He grinned, reaching with his non-prosthetic hand to ruffle the boy's... hair? It was strange to the touch, but not necessarily bad feeling by any means. He did take extra care to not bump Sushi's lure, as he wasn't sure if it was sensitive or not. "So, here's what I'm thinking. We get our exercise in for a few hours, then we'll get something fun for dinner. I could cook something up or I could order food, if you want something different. It's our first day together, so I want it to be as fun and enjoyable for you as possible!" He leaned back, now lazily floating on the surface.

"So, what do you want, Sushi? Let's make today the best it can be."

For someone who didn’t live in the water, Jack was awfully fast at swimming. Sushi just smiled and closed his eyes as his hair was ruffled. He liked it, though it was hard to explain why. “You are fast too.”

The question of what they would do for dinner was a tricky one. Sushi wasn’t exactly sure which to go with. But given some thought, he decided it might be nice to watch Jack cook. He’d eaten out a bunch of times in the past but he’d never eaten anything Jack made before.

“You to cook.” He finally said after clear hesitation. “Please.” He added.

Jack chuckled. "Of course, little dude. I'll cook up something tonight. Perhaps I can grill up some nice salmon..." He tapped a finger to his chin in thought as he continued to float lazily in the water. "I know exactly what I'll cook up! It'll be delicious, Sushi. But let's keep up our swimming for the time being. Gotta build up an appetite, right?"

With that, the cat fae flipped back into a proper swimming position and began to swim a few laps alongside the merboy. They even played a few rounds of Marco Polo, which Jack definitely assumed he'd have the advantage with due to his heightened hearing. He was surprisingly wrong but the games were fun nonetheless. Eventually, though, hunger would win out and the two would go on to have a lovely dinner of grilled salmon with rice pilaf on the side.

Jack could say without a doubt that his newfound son was the best thing in his life and he wouldn't trade this day for any of the adventures he had been on.
