There was a new bartender in her restaurant.
Rada had told Malakias to run all new personnel by her first, she was the one who basically ran this place, but did that brat listen? Of course not, mister big shot alpha couldn't bother to listen to a cranky omega. Well, Rada wouldn't let this slide. She wanted to know what kind of people worked here, and so she would just have to check the guy out on her own.
Rada was washing her hands, she was ending her shift early so she could go upstairs and grab the new guy to have drinks with her. The best way for Rada to know a person was to drink with him, and possibly get him drunk. Or get herself drunk, whichever happened first.

Rada headed to the dressing room and yelled over her shoulder in Russian.
"Keep the place running Vlad, and don't overcook those beets!"
As an answer Rada just got a middle finger over the man's shoulder, and Rada's laughter resounded in the kitchen as she closed the door to the dressing room.
Rada quickly changed into her normal clothes, a black t-shirt and jeans, and headed upstairs through the stairs at the back of the restaurant. On the way she gave some smiles and hellos to the customers, but as Rada climbed up the stairs she gave her cheeks a break.
Up in Wolf's Den Rada took a quick scan of the place, decently busy, and then she went on ahead to the bar counter. The new guy was behind and damn, was the guy intimidating. At least that Malakias had gotten right. No one was causing trouble with this guy back here.
Rada set her hands on the counter with a confident grin on her face, causing a big enough thump to grab the guy's attention.
"I'm Rada Volkov, head chef and your boss. I called someone to fill in for you, now you'll drink with me."

Jackal wasn't expecting to meet the boss any time soon. He also wasn't expecting the boss to be like... what, twenty? He'd been expecting some forty year old grizzled Russian man, not someone who barely looked out of college. She was muscular, but average in most other ways, and her accent was thick enough to cut with a knife.

"Can't say I'm going to object to drinking like this," Jackal said with a snort. "Handshake? Bow? How do we do things in Russia. I'm not exactly up to date with Russian culture. Not my area, not my place, and I'm disgustingly out of date."

He finished cleaning up what he was doing before letting whoever else take over, stepping out from behind the bar and heading over to Rada. He absolutely towered over her, and he made a point to try not to do so too obviously.

"So, where we sitting? Is this a drink in the bar kind of talk, or a meal in the restaurant kind of talk?"

Rada laughed at the guy's approach, at least he wanted to try and do things the Russian way. He got some points from that, though Rada wouldn't have cared if he had spit on the Russian flag and used it to clean the glasses. As long as he didn't disrespect Rada and did good work.
"You can start learning your Russian manners by taking vodka shots with me. That's basically a handshake."
Rada said and grinned. She went behind the bar to grab a bottle of vodka and some shot glasses and waited for Jackal to finish whatever he was doing, or rather she would've scolded him if he hadn't. While he did a younger man, around Rada's age, came from downstairs and Rada told her to get behind the bar in Russian.

Rada noticed immediately that this guy had several feet on her, but she couldn't care less. They weren't going to fight or anything, hopefully.
Rada snorted at the thought of throwing back shots downstairs, and gave Jackal a firm pat, or something between a slap or a punch, on the arm. It would've hurt a normal person, but Rada trusted this hulk of a man could take it.
"I won't let anything ruin the reputation of my restaurant, not even me. And that will happen if I get even near drunk down there. Come here."
Rada headed towards the back of the pub, in a table with red padded seats and dark brown table. Rada set the shot glasses on the table and filled them up. She picked them up and gave one to Jackal, kept the other one.
"This is how it begins. Good to meet you, big guy. За встречу!"
Rada lifted her glass and threw the vodka back, exhaling with satisfaction afterwards.

It was a fucking mercy that she wasn't an innocent, because if she was he'd have gone flying just from her little love tap. As it was, it did absolutely nothing, which was probably the desired effect. People tended to assume he was wildly strong, but he wasn't actually that powerful. He wasn't bench pressing tons or anything like that. He was peak human, and little more.

He slid into the booth opposite Rada, taking the offered glass and knocking it back in one go.

"За встречу!" He mimicked, his Russian magically flawless. "A useful skill here, no?" He continued in Russian. Amusingly, his power was actually equally useful everywhere, because he'd yet to meet someone on the island who's native language was his own.

"I am a man of many talents, but my drinking is beyond me. I've only got a human's alcohol tolerance, so don't expect too much for me."
"Cheers!"

Rada had expected that he would be able to handle the shot with ease. Hell, she would've been very surprised and disappointed if the guy had coughed and sputtered. Though Rada was a bit surprised when she heard him talk her mother tongue fluently. Rada grinned and filled the glasses again without missing a beat.
"Goddamn, this island is full of weird shit. I need to stop getting surprised at everything."
Rada said in Russian, since there was no need to force English with this guy, and threw back the next shot. She didn't exactly look surprised, but one skill Rada had learned from growing up in a mafia family was that your feelings stayed and showed right where you wanted them to.

"Don't show your cards, big guy. I have a liver of steel and now I want to drink you under the table. With any other Russian person you'd be fucked."
Rada said with a slightly evil smile and filled her glass. But she wouldn't pressure the guy into drinking, that was only for cowards and assholes, and Rada wouldn't fill his glass.
"Well then, tell me your name, and what's your deal. Decipher the latter how you want."

Her Russian was more casual than her English, which wasn't all that surprising, and Jackal leaned back in his seat, casual as could be. Unlike Rada, Jackal very much wore his heart on his sleeve, and nine times out of ten he was super easy to read. He kept his cards close to his chest about his powers, and... more or less nothing else.

"I'll manage," he said with a snort. "This isn't the first time someone's tried to drink me under the table. This won't be the last time either." Especially not with him working behind the bar.

"Name's Jackal," he said to start, "no last name. Been on the island about a year now. Worked at the Green Hat for a while. Mostly known because I flew off to the planet of Mes to kill a god with Malara Tor, if you know her. Lost my job that time though."

He snorted at that. It was a fun memory, but not exactly his smartest move. He should have known he'd lose his job after running off for a month.

"Jackal of the Green hat, huh. I know Green hat, I take it my business to know the competition, but the rest I have no idea about. Malara Tor or Mes. Well, I do know this."
Rada took her shot glass and downed the vodka, putting it back down with an exhale and a clack. She had a grin on her face as she filled the glass again.
"I hope that god deserved the ass kicking they got. And I sure as hell hope you'll tell me before you fly off anywhere so I know to reduce that time from your salary."
All the things Jackal explained felt so surreal and Rada wasn't going to start thinking about gods or different worlds or the universe now. She had been aware that there were other creatures in the world her whole life, but she had never seen them. But this island sure as hell was throwing Rada right into the deep end with all that shit, huh.
To that Rada downed yet another vodka shot.

"I'm not really up to date on how alright it is for me to ask what you are, so enlighten me. Because I really want to ask about that tail."
Rada was getting slightly tipsy.

"Oh, it's generally pretty... Eh, not insulting? But some people definitely take offense. Probably ninety percent are totally fine with it, but that other ten percent... Mostly recently changed, or something with a real bad stigma. Anything that eats people tends to not want to say what they are." He paused for effect, grinning to show his sharp, sharp teeth. Letting it sink in.

And then he ruined it.

"Demon, more or less," he said. "And before you ask, I don't eat people. Lots of meat, but a mostly human diet either way."

He gave a quick wave of his hand and decided to gloss over most of her earlier question. "The god killing was some trouble, but that's all done now. No plans to go anywhere long term. If I get killed for some reason, just take me off the schedule a week and know I didn't plan my death."

Rada took in Jackal's explanation, she was nothing but a survivor and she wanted to survive on this weird island and its surroundings, and that meant, at least partly, playing by the rules. Rada wasn't there to cause (a lot of) anarchy or trouble.
"Good to know. I've never been the one to dig needlessly anyway, I'm just a nosy bastard."
Rada snickered and took a shot.

"A demon, huh? Well, fuck me. I haven't met many of those yet."
Rada wasn't lying, although she had probably met many demons without knowing, there were pretty many of them after all.
"And I was going to ask eventually, you're right. I'm a goddamn cook, I want to know that stuff. Good call."
Rada lifted her glass at Jackal, it was filled with vodka again, and she downed it. Whoo, she was developing a nice buzz.

Such casual attitude to death. Well, Rada had already met at least two or three immortal gods, so she wasn't even surprised that Jackal was immortal too. Rada laughed and hit the table once with her hand.
"Got it then. But try not to fucking die on me, it's hard to find decent bartenders, I tell you."
