"Unless you've been locking yourself in the cupboard all day, you've definitely met some. Most are way less obvious than I am. They just look like people, and then if they're particularly wicked on any given day, they'll grow horns and tails and shit like that."

he was, realistically speaking, one of the most demonic looking demons he'd met in day to day life. There were a few more extreme then him, but most? Most were just humans.

"Don't plan on dying any time soon," Jackal said. "Only time I went back home since I got here was because it takes me about a week to get out of hell, but was going to take me two weeks to fly back from the planet we were on. Faster to just cut my own throat and arrive a week early."

Grisly, no doubt, but a part of him was checking how squeamish she was. Obviously not too bad, considering she had a kill count herself, but... well, you never know.

"So what should I know about the business?"

"Been lucking myself in a kitchen all day, does that count? Though that description you gave matches one of my cooks when she gets riled up over the specials."
Rada said with a grin, only partly joking. Sometimes Ekaterina really had a tail, though she didn't have even a similar smell to Jackal. Unless all demons didn't share scent markers.

Rada listened to Jackal without batting at eye and in the end she guessed that he was partly testing how she'd eact. Rada emptied her glass before answering.
"I feel bad for whoever had to clean up after your shortcut, for sure."
She answered with a grin, cleaning up blood was a pain in the ass. She knew that from being a chef and...from other instances.

"What you should know? Well, my brother who owns this place is a real tightass, the corporate type. Opposite of me, really, so if you ever meet him be all polite and shit. And there are a lot of Russians working here, so I'm a good test run for dealing with that nasty temperament we all seem to have."
Rada snickered, she was among the worst when it came to temper if you caught her on the wrong mood.
"And of course there's other stuff but it's nothing you can't afford to learn along the way."

"Oh, that's a whole thing," Jackal said with a laugh. "Turns out they made a shrine out of it or something. There was this whole fiasco where a cult though I was actually their long forgotten suppressed god come back to kill the bad god and all that, and since, you know, I did in fact kill the bad god, wham, prophecy fulfilled."

Jackal wiggled his fingers for emphasis in a manner that didn't exactly fit someone of his stature. More like someone who was fourteen.

"Eh, temperaments are overrated," Jackal said with a wave of his hand. "People of all cultures come in all types. If this place only has nasty temperaments, it's because the big boss man likes to stock his cupboard with them. Speaking Russian will help with that either way."

It was, in a way, a test in itself. Because it was hard not to notice how many murderers the House of Volkov had on staff, and Jackal had his own quiet suspicions. Maybe it was just a werewolf thing, but generally speaking werewolves on the island were pretty compliant. They played nice. Not like some of the people who worked for the House of Wolves.

Rada burst out laughing at Jackal's story, and the whole finger wiggle thing he did.
"Well excuse me, I didn't realize I was with a resurrected god. Should I give you a raise?"
Rada answered with a cackle and leaned back.

Hmmm, the big guy was perceptive. Rada only hoped he wasn't too perceptive, it'd be bad if their whole operation here got busted. That meant Rada would be shipped back to Russia and into inprisonment again. Here at least she got to do other stuff than just study and fight for her life all day. And if she went back now Rada would be forced to become the omega.
Fuck that.

"What can I say, me and my brother enjoy a challenge."
Rada said with a grin and emptied her glass again, she was feeling real good.
"This bar surely would be a lot more boring without all those good ol' Russian temperaments running around."

"I mean, if it gets me a raise, I'll keep on claiming to be whatever you want," Jackal said with a cackle of his own. He didn't really like being associated with the Paragons, but they'd been mostly wiped out by that point, and he wasn't going to nitpick jokes about raises.

"Keep's the place lively," Jackal agreed, "and keeps it authentic. No one likes to walk into a Mexican place and find the entire staff's Asian. Even if not all the workers are, having them around gives the whole place an air of... authenticity? Like you know it's going to be real Russian food, and not some American's idea of what Russian food should be."

Jackal could take a joke, good. Rada snickered and shook her head a bit, downing a shot.
"Not gonna happen, I'm an atheist anyway. But I can get your employee discount down to 45% if you let me drink with no charge, and don't tell a soul."
Rada grinned, she was getting a bit drunk.

"I definitely know what you're talking about. Don't fucking get me started on this one pathetic imitator or borscht soup I was served in a 'Russian' restaurant in New York. Went to the kitchen myself and made the cook the same soup, wanted to hire me on the spot."
Rada said and laughed, that had been a good time. And she had embarrassed her father so badly, in was great.

Ohhh, religion. Jackal knew enough to know not to take a bite out of that. That'd be a whole argument and a half, and he was super not interested in getting into it with his sort-of-boss. Because the fact was that Jackal knew the truth. He knew god-with-a-capitol-G was out there because that was who'd made him.

"At the very least you get some imitations," Jackal said. "Some don't even get that. Manakish, moutabal, fattoush... you don't even get poor imitations out here. You'll get some hummus and some falafel, but nothing else."

Rada wasn't all about starting a debate about religion, especially since atheism was a pretty vague concept here on this island where you could throw a rock and there was a 50/50 chance it hit a god or goddess. Just try and not believe in them when you fucking chatted about the weather.

"Oh damn, thanks for the warning. I haven't visited many restaurants around here yet but I'll keep an eye out for the shitty places. Last thing I want to do is eat some cardboard naan or watery goulash."

"Don't get me started on naan," Jackal said with a laugh. "I barely even eat the stuff and it's still a tragedy what some people try and pass of as it. At least shawarma is done pretty good now. Guess I can thank the superhero movie stuff for that, right?"

Wasn't there a reference or something? Something like that.

"So, enough about food," Jackal said. "How long you guys been on the island?"

"Oh yeah, the power of fucking Avengers. DC should shove some borsch scenes to the ending of their next Batman movie so Russia gets some love too. And then I could make some clever references too, goddamnit."
Rada laughed, she was more or less on top of her action and superhero movies, she loved those. And it was smart of Jackal to make that reference.

Moving along from food was like tossing a tuna from a sea to a lake with Rada, it was water but not her place to be. Well, she could still swim with ease. And Jackal's question was simple enough.
"Not that long, month or two. I gotta tell you, this place is fucking crazy and I love it. I get to spar a demigod of war at my boxing gym, it's a dream come true, I tell you."
