let it burn

August had come out here to think originally, but just thinking had quickly turned to boredom when he ran out of things to think about. After about ten minutes of kicking pebbles at the half-frozen water of the lake, August had turned around and looked for things to burn up. He found a couple dry twigs and leaves, setting them ablaze without too much effort on his part. His small flame grew brighter, and he knew that it would soon be needing more fuel. He hauled a broken log over, gently setting it over his flames. His cheetah curled near his feet and close to the fire, nearly tripping him. Cursing quietly, he poked her thin frame gently with the toe of his shoe. She was used to being tripped over, and only gave a small purr in response to his irritation. August left her there to look for something dry to sit on, satisfied with a slightly smaller log that he had found close by where they other was.

Dropping his make-shift stool close to Gisa, his hand rested on top of her head, gently stroking the fine fur that lay around her ears. He really was lucky to have such a pet, but occasionally wished that he could find someone else with a large cat as a pet. He had heard of another student having a tiger but whether that was rumour or not, he could not tell. The heat from the flames was nice against his skin, and August almost wanted to curl up and sleep with Gisa. She seemed to rather enjoy it, and he mildly envied her for being able to curl up anywhere and nap. He thought he could hear something approaching, but since Gisa didn't seem too concerned about it, August let his head drop back into his hands, and he stared off into his tiny fire.

It was weird being in a forest, as Kiyana wasn't really a tree lover. She lightly sighed as she watched as he trees went by to her right, then to her left. She didn't know as to which side she wanted to look at. "Well." She said quietly to herself. Even though it wasn't late at night, it still felt a bit weird to be in the woods, alone.

She had heard of people mentioning that there was a lake around the area that she was in, and she was determined to find it before going back. "I wonder if anyone is even out here." She asked herself as she paused for a second, examining a leaf that had fallen in front of her. "Why did it just, fall off? Isn't it pretty much spring?" She laughed a bit and continued on.

A few minutes later, she looked up a bit to see a bit of smoke in the sky. As it was a fairly bright day out, it was easy to see the light smoke in the air. "Who would be having a fire?" She questioned the smoke and continued in that direction. After a few minutes she got close enough to just barely smell the light smoke.

"Ah!" She said to herself. As she approached the area, she saw something furry, and huge, close to the fire. "Oh." She gasped a bit to see that it was a cheetah. "Damnit." As she looked around, she tried to see if there was a person, a human that could help her not get killed the next few seconds, as the cheetah was no looking at her a bit. As she looked to her side, she saw a man, and smiled a bit. "Uh, hi. Could you help me out here?"

Of course, just as he was right about to fall asleep, he was jerked back to alertness by a heavy crunching among the forest. He looked at Gisa, silently questioning whether it was a friend or foe. The beast only gazed back at him with wide eyes, unwilling to leave the safety of the fire. Frowning at his cat, August stood and folded his arms in front of his chest. He stood guard at the fire until a girl emerged from the woods. She was smaller than he, and seemingly alarmed by the sight of his cheetah. Good.

August squinted at this intruder suspiciously. Why did she need help? Looking back at Gisa for reassurance, August twitched his fingers at her and she came trotting to his side. Thankfully, as long as he was next to her, she didn't have any issues with becoming a guard cat. Approaching the stranger cautiously, Gisa loped ahead, stopping a couple feet away from her. Her tail flicked, and her tongue flickered out to taste the scent on the air. Faintly, in the back of his mind, August could feel her confused thoughts swirling around. Unfortunately for him, Gisa couldn't form words properly, and could only think in pictures and emotions. It was left to him to decipher what she was thinking. From her thoughts, it seemed that she had no major concerns about the character of this person. Satisfied, August closed the distance between them. His arms tucked tight into his chest, August drew himself up to his full height, staring reproachfully down at the girl. "Why do you need help?"

Kiyana watched a bit as he man called hat made her sigh and relief as that was mostly what she was worried about. Animals weren't always the nicest to her. Being more prone to females in general, the presence of the man was a bit unnerving. It had been a long time since she had even made eye contact with a guy.

Was he friendly? Would he unleash his animal after her? SO many questions and so little time she had before he got up. She gasped to herself at the height of him. It seemed that everyone at the school was taller then her. It made her a bit worried as to what this man would do next, but as he got closer he seemed like less of a threat.

She smiled a bit as he approached her with his cheetah, seeing that they were together and it didn't loo like he was plotting anything against her. She nodded slowly as the man asked why she needed help. "Uh, mostly because I was afraid of your cheetah, and I wanted to know if this was the lake that everyone keeps talking about?" She looked quickly behind him. "I just didn't want to startle you that you would have used your powers to kill me."

He was feeling edgy still. The smoke had invaded his senses, and he felt like a dragon. It really was a shame that he hadn't been born one-- he could really use a pair of great leathery wings right now. Most of all, August just wanted to burn things, to watch everything wither in his path. Perhaps he could even have a bit of fun with this newcomer while he was at it.

A sly smile slowly crossed his mouth, and August stepped closer still, until he was hovering directly above the small female. His voice lowered, coming out in a velveteen purr. "Are you sure you're not afraid still?" He pushed his thoughts toward Gisa, encouraging her to act threatening towards the girl. She wouldn't do anything too dangerous, but that wouldn't stop her from growling, too.
By now, Gisa had circled behind the pair, lurking at a small distance. Her eyes burned like two small flames, and she let out a quiet growl every now and then. "You never know with strangers, some of them might have a bloodlust for little girls like you."

She quickly put her hands behind her, not wanting to look nervous. It wasn't everyday that a tall handsome man loomed over her to try to scare her. She kept her ground though, and didn't try to look scared. But was she? Yes. She wasn't used the the closeness that this man was giving her, it didn't feel right. Would she show any fear though? Would she just cower out? All of these things she considered, but she stayed here and watched his every move by looking up at him.

"N, no I don't think I am." She tried to put on a neutral face, but it just turned into a half smile snarl face, which she then changed to biting the insides of her lips. 'This guy can't scare me.' She said in her mind. As the cheetah got up and start to circle, she watched it for the first lap, making sure that it wasn't going to bite her legs.

When it roared for the first time, she got a bit jumpy, as she was at the time only paying attention to the man. Was his cheetah a defense system? To try to lure her into thinking that if she messed up, the big cat will attack her? As much as she tried to then get that thought out of her head, it stuck with her.

She smirked a bit as he finished saying something. "I've met some before, they aren't the nicest." She stated before looking him right in the eyes. "Are you one of them by chance?" At this point she was on the verge of screaming like a little girl, as she had no idea how he would react to that. She just had to stay strong, or at least look it for a long as she could.

August grinned wickedly, watching the girl hide her feelings. He was pretty impressed with her, though. Many girls would either fling themselves at him or squeak and take off. He liked neither of those reactions, although Gisa enjoyed playing with the runners. August raised his eyebrows at her responses. Well, at least she wasn't a wimp. "Might be. You'll have to find that one out for yourself." To be perfectly honest, he didn't have much of a lust for girls at all. He enjoyed their company well enough but they were just too soft. He always felt like he would break them as soon as he touched them.

Backing up, August shrugged as he gave the girl space. "I'm here to burn things, I never asked for company." Prickly as always, August found his way back to his fire, taking great care to ignore the strange girl. As with most of his problems, he's found that if you ignore them hard enough, they tend to go away. Gisa trotted back to his side, looking first at August, and then settling back down. August could tell that she was still on high alert, and he patted her head lovingly.

"Hmpft." That was really all she could think of saying at that moment. This guy wasn't like the others she had dealt with, even though being around guys wan't really her most liked activity. "Okay then.." She looked away and put her hands on her hips, as she really didn't know what to say to him.

"Well to me you don't seem like that type, you seem like a guy that would just rather mind his own business for the rest of his life, rather then do anything worth wild with it. " She smirked a bit, making sure that he didn't see it. She stepped a bit closer as he turned and walked back to the fire. Kiyana looked around and saw a branch. She quickly picked it up and threw it close to the fire. "Why not at least get some more wood on that fire?" What exactly was she trying to accomplish? She had no idea.
