The nurse just shook her head. She knew she could have been more gentle. But to her, this boy had a snappy attitude. A few hours passed, and another nurse came in to relieve the other.

When the next nurse entered, she saw Danger curled on the bed, coughing violently, shoulders shaking. He coughed up blood, from the damage of coughing, and he glanced up at the new nurse with depressed, tired eyes, with a twinge of sardonic humor in them. "I guess I'm not well, huh?" he let out a sardonic chuckle, which turned into a cough, and he continued to cough violently.

The nurse whow as on now was older than the rest.
"I'm afraid you are, son. Someone came by to see you, and they've waited in that smelly ol' lobby for an hour just for you. That's commitment."
The nurse left the room and a few seconds later, Serenity came in, looking pale but rested.
"Oh, James, I'm sorry! The nures said you should rest and I should to, so I unpacked and..."
She took his hand.
"I... I'm sorry."
She sat down and kept her eyes low. The nurse came over with a couple pills and a glass of water. She put them on the bedside table and straightened the pillows so Danger could lean up, then she left the room, leaving them alone.

Danger coughed some more, but smiled at her, none-the-loss once he was done. "The nurse was right." his voice was hoarse with the strain of coughing. "Just, next time, leave a note. It seems that most nurses are terrible at relaying messages." He removed his hand from hers to caress her face, "I though you'd decided to leave after all."

Then he pulled himself into a sitting position, and took the water, swallowing the pills with a bit of difficulty. "That hurt a bit.." he muttered, though the Russian curse he mumbled belied that it had hurt more than a bit. He slid himself back down into a lying position, and closed his eyes, exhausted from coughing.

Serenity leaned back, scared of what was happening to Danger. What was wrong with him? She was getting nervous. He had been here for almost five days. He should have been better by now. Serenity leaned back and slowly, bit by bit dozing off.

TIME JUMP TO 3 DAYS AFTER

Danger was allowed to wander now, and he was doing just that. He leaned on the balcony of the hospital wing, and stared out at the brilliantly sunny day. He thought back on the events, and chuckled. Knowing Serenity had been hard on him. He'd lost his ship, his captain, and his crew, he'd gotten badly wounded fighting for her, then gotten sick in the depression of her rejection. And yet she still managed to fit ever so nicely into his arms, and his heart.

He wondered where she'd gotten to again, but knew she'd be back eventually. He coughed lightly. He was almost over the cold. Almost.

Serenity had crept up behind Danger and then wrapped her arms around him.
"James, I thought your ears were sharper."
She said to him, unable to hide the giggles. She was very glad he was getting better, though the thought of all this being her fault weighed down heavy on her mind.
And her heart.

Danger smiled, and turned loosening her arms just enough to pull her around into his. He made a little humm noise, and kissed her forehead gently. "You can always sneak up on me," he moved his head and kissed just below her ear, "I don't mind at all." he wrapped his arms tighter around her, and his eyes lingered on her lips for a moment. But he was sick, and he didn't want to give her his cold. He returned his eyes to hers, and was surprised to find a twinge of something he could assume to be guilt hiding in there. "Hey.. Hey.. It's not your fault." he said quietly, and gently.

Serenity put her head on his chest and looked the other way. She tried to find something to change the subject or find an excuse, but nothing came to mind, so she stayed silent and closed her eyes, trying to remove all guilt in them. A thought sprang to her mind, and she decided to let Danger know the truth.
"Its... Its just that, I think all of this is my fault. I know you know it is, too. If I hadn't been thinking for myself... If only it wasn't going to rain..."
She looked up at him, true love in her eyes.
"I... I'm so sorry."

Danger removed one arm from around her to rub her cheek gently. "It doesn't matter who's fault it is anymore. I don't care. And you shouldn't either. It's not going to change anything." he returned his arm to around her waist, "besides, the nurse said I'd been coming down with it weeks before my collapse. It had nothing to do with you."
