Leaving?

It was the middle of the night. And it was cold. Very cold. At least, to Serenity, it was. Everything had seemed cold after Danger told her they could not love each other. And now, she was leaving. She was afraid she had caused Danger to much pain. She didn't want anything to happen to him. She just only wanted him to be happy. And he most likely couldn't be happy whn she was around.
Shouldering her knapsack, she was trying not to cry again. The clouds that had been around earlier had cleared away, showing a moon in the middle of the sky, heading down. Serenity's wings started to buzz as she rose slowly. She stopped a yard or two off the ground, casting one last look to the Beach, where she had last seen Danger.

He looked up at a buzzing noise, trying to shake the fog from his mind. He hadn't gotten drunk, not tonite, and instead, had stayed out in the rain all day, refusing to warm himself. "Serenity?" his words came out confused, and in a bit of a croak, but the way he said her name marked him as Danger. He took a breath to say something, but instead started coughing violently, he curled himself into a tighter ball, trying to stop coughing. His face and hair said that he'd been on the roof in this condition for a while, and he watched her with dull eyes. When he finally stopped coughing, he asked her in a very confused voice, "Where are you going?" before breaking into another coughing fit. He'd been able to stop coughing before he started talking, but talking made him cough.

Serenity turned around, surprised to hear the voice she heard.
"James?"
In a moment, a small flame was in her hand, illluminating her face, and the area around her.
"Omigosh, James!"
She said, landing hard as she ran to him.
"What have I done to you?"
She muttered quietly as she took his hand and brushed hair out of his face, having no idea what else to do.
"James, what happened?"
The flame in her other hand grew, and she held it close enough to him to warm him but not burn him. She had the same helpless feeling as she had on Danger's old ship, the time they first saw each other. She couldn't do anything to help him, and she was not strong enough to get him to the Hospital wing.

What could she do?

Danger smiled a tired smile at her, and started coughing again. "I must have fallen asleep." he said, confused amusement in his voice. He leaned his face against the had that didn't have flame in it, face extremely warm with fever. "Your hands feel nice." he said quietly, closing his dull eyes for a moment. He pulled away from her, coughing again, this time, the coughs wracked his body, and that they were painful was obvious just by how they sounded.

Serenity was in tears by now.
"I'll... I'll be right back..."
She said, standing up and running to the door. But the fireball stayed by Danger. A few minutes later she came up with a nurse and two men with a strecher. They carefully lifted him onto it and Serenity followed, along with the nurse.

(TIME WARP!!)

Danger had been vaguely aware of being lifted onto a stretcher, but he knew he'd blacked out soon after. When he opened his eyes, his vision was blurry, and the first thing he saw was a very artistic roof. He didn't move, his entire body aching, and he closed his eyes, coughing quietly. He tried to hold the heavy coughs in, and succeeded, at least, for the time being. A small groan passed his lips, but he didn't open his eyes, and just lay there.

The nurse in the room quickly hit a button, then muttered some words into the intercom next to it. A few minutes later, Serenity entered the room. She sat down next to the bed and took Danger's hand. She dare not say anything, in fear he would respond. When nurse had said his fever was the same, Serenity hoped that he would be alright...

When her hand touched his, he opened his eyes, and turned his head to look at her. A smile cracked his chapped lips. "You didn't leave." he whispered, eyes showing the smile that his mouth couldn't. He closed his eyes, coughing again. His shoulders shook with the effort to hold in the heavy coughs, and when they stopped, he opened his eyes again to look at her. "I changed my mind, I'm never letting you go," he said, closing his eyes and leaning his head back to where it had been.

Serenity now had his hand in both of hers. She gently squeezed it, to show him what her words couldn't say. For a moment she wanted everyone to know that she loved Danger with all her heart, then her shyish part took over and the thought faded. A terrible thought filled her head. Did Danger do this to himself because of what she did?
She decided it was best not to mention it, because it would ruin the moment.

He opened his eyes again and looked at her. "Talk to me. I promise I'll shut up." he said, his words soft and gentle, but something in them left her very little room to protest. He started coughing again, and leaned his head back, closing his eyes once more.
