Angelo was, hands down bar none, the only member of the Manta Carlos Police Force who could be considered to be on good terms with the Rosales family. More than anything, Angelo chalked it up to the fact that he treated the Rosales's like a family first, and a mafia second. He'd been raised in a very similar situation, and he was well aware just what it was like. Some people could cleanly divide family and the business, and others... well, others couldn't.

Any time the MCPD had to handle something that wasn't anti-Rosales in nature, it fell to Angelo. If they wanted any sort of assistance, or any sort of answer that wasn't a door getting shut in someone's face, it went to Angelo. By it's nature, it also meant that Angelo was kept well away from any moves against the Rosales family, if only to avoid claims of bias.

Angelo was the only one cop who could even talk to Klaus, even if the kingpin was far from cooperative.

Angelo was in his uniform as he knocked on the front door of the Rosales mansion, his car parked two streets over to avoid drawing attention. Really, he figured his hair was more notable than his uniform, and most people would at least know who he was if they'd been around the Rosales family long.

It just came with the territory.

Shay had taken to using her (his) male form more and more, if only because he felt more comfortable in it currently. Somehow less vulnerable. Less for people to stare at. More to put them on edge. Less likely to be touched, held, picked up.

Beyond a chaotic mind, Shay was dealing with an equally chaotic household. Since Vito and Klaus' departer, she'd taken keeping her family in line under her belt. With Cordelia, Quin, and Invidia's help, they'd set up chore lists timetables and whatever else they needed to keep things functional.

Shay had found, when it came down to him, he was a hell of a lot more strict than Klaus or Vito. A little surprising. Shay was all about efficiency, and where the gang was involved, practicality. Setting up new business. Ridding some of the old ones. Learning how the money and paperwork kept from Caterina.

By the time Shay answered the door, barely paying full attention, he had halted and stared at Angelo. The last Shay had seen of the cop, Angelo was trying to get him to confess about what happened with the murder. That was before Shay just left. He was still a little sore about that, but it had been an important lesson about liking people versus trusting them.

Noting the uniform, Shay said, "Officer Genovese, what brings you here today?"

Angelo had never seen Shay in their male form. Every time they'd met, Shay had been firmly female, so when the door swung open to reveal a strange face, there was no reason for Angelo to make the connection.

Well, almost no reason. Angelo's senses--still growing and rather unusual in nature--flickered slightly, recognizing the person in front of him as... something. Something not dead, but still in the general realm of death aligned like he was.

Not that it meant much.

They knew who he was, at least, which eased things. Angelo flashed his badge anyway, which was a very formal way of declaring it was a business visit if the uniform didn't give it away.

"I was sent over to talk to Klaus, if he's around."

"He's not," Shay said, rather clipped. It didn't occur to him to explain to Angelo it was her (him?). Because Shay always felt like Shay, no matter the form, the size, the shape. Dead or alive.

"And you shouldn't expect them to come back. Him or Vito. They're not around anymore."

Shay figured he might as well get that out of the way. Not that it felt like any of Angelo's business. He paused, considered it. "But, if you'd like to come in and join me in the office, we can talk about whatever business you had."

Because Shay wanted to know what it was that had Angelo bothering to come out to their manor and talk to them. To flash his badge, wear his uniform. What did the police want?

Angelo's eyebrows were doing a series of very complicated acrobatics as the boy in front of him spoke. They went up. They went down. They came together. They went up again.

Klaus and Vito weren't around anymore. Angelo had been around the Mafia enough to know that meant something along the lines of they're buried at the bottom of the sea, only Klaus and Vito were demons and who knew if they could even ever be killed for real.

"Hn," Angelo said, entirely non-commitally. He wasn't entirely sure about going into the office with a stranger, especially without Klaus's theoretical protection being in effect, but it was official business, and if he was going to disappear, it would mean that whoever was making him disappear was monumentally stupid, because the MCPD knew exactly where he was.

"Alright," Angelo finally said, stepping inside and moving to follow.

"So who's in charge then?" Angelo asked the moment the door closed.

Who was in charge? Officially, no one. But looking on it, Shay was doing the work. She was setting up the foundations, having sleepless nights, getting everything in order that Klaus hadn't bothered to because he never expected to leave.

"I am."

Shay led Angelo to a nearby office that Vito had used before. Before. With a little hesitation that wasn't portrayed on his face, Shay sat in the chair and motioned for Angelo to take a seat across from him.

By then, it came to his attention that Angelo was acting more wary than normal. That could have been a few things, like this situation in general, but also...

"It's Shay if you didn't realize. Now, what's this business?"

They were? They were a kid. A kid Angelo had never even met before. They couldn't have been more than eighteen at the absolute oldest, and they certainly weren't old enough to be running a gang.

What the hell was going on with the Rosales family?

Angelo grabbed a seat across from the desk, mentally running through the ten million questions he was thinking up. Who was the kid? How'd they end up in charge? Where had Klaus gone? Where was Sha-

Oh.

Angelo stared, his eyes narrowing slightly as he tried to... well, alright, the person in front of him being Shay did sort of make sense. Shay was a reaper, so it made sense he could sort-of-kind-of feel her. Only that didn't explain... well, anything else.

Even if Angelo had been on the island for almost a decade, he still wasn't quite used to suddenly finding someone who had swapped... well, everything.

"Oh," Angelo said. "You're a boy."

Not exactly his brightest moment, and Angelo took a second to recover.

"That's beside the point - What happened to Klaus?" What had happened to her? She'd been murdered and run off without another word.

Angelo's mind was very obviously breaking, so Shay gave him a silent moment to recover. When he commented on Shay's gender, he nodded and glanced down at himself.

"Right now, yes. I got a charm for it. Sometimes I like being like this." And Shay would leave it there. No reason to explain further how it was like wearing a protective suit. A body that wasn't entirely his own.

When Angelo went on to ask about Klaus, Shay breathed out slowly and leaned back against the plush chair. "Okay, I can understand this all must come as a surprise. The man has been here for over thirteen years. You came expecting Klaus, but you didn't get him. I get that.

"But you can also see where I might be hesitant to spill everything to you, yeah? I agreed to talk to you because I like you. I think you're a good man, but I'd rather not answer any questions until you tell me why you came here. What was this business?"

The mafia was not exactly the most socially accepting of groups, so Angelo had gotten all of his sex-and-gender education on Manta Carlos. He sort of... well, sort of got what Shay was saying, although it was wrong as well. He simply assumed they were trans and moved on with his life, beyond wondering just when that had happened.

Angelo could at least be happy that Shay had said they liked them--that was one worry dismissed--and he sagged back in the seat when they asked for business.

"This guy's missing. Last name was Seaver, big guy. His mom's been calling the station nonstop demanding we look for him, but we don't really have any evidence that he went missing. In fact, the only evidence we can find is indicating that he's actually a Rosales, which leaves us with a great big question mark. Dead? Disappeared? Totally fine and just ignoring his mom? So they sent me to poke around and see what you'd say about it. To verify or deny that last one, mostly."

"Seaver?" Shay said, recalling the man. Large, big nose and big hands. Bulky. Ted Seaver. He had a wife and two kids. He had a mom who loved him. He was a Vampire. And, in many ways, a great gang member. Bodyguard.

Shay felt sick. He closed his eyes and sighed. "Seaver is fine. He requested a send off to Europe -- no, I won't tell you which part. That's all I'll say on it."

Ted. Ted. Ted. Shay needed to vomit. It was one of those situations. She could have told the truth. The truth wouldn't hurt the gang, but it meant speaking about it, and she wouldn't do that.

Clearing his throat, Shay met Angelo's eyes, face a neutral mask. "As for Klaus and Vito. Not dead. Just recalled to Hell. Not much any of us could have done about it. That leaves us, kids, to get everything in order. Caterina and Quin are our legal guardians. Go ahead and look into that, we have paperwork for it and everything."
