Jett was thrilled about this outing, hence, why he was actually on time when he picked Versa up. He drove a nice truck, meant to easily access rough terrain. His car was surprisingly clean and tidy, and as was usual for him, Jett was grinning. He eyed Versa over, ensuring her outfit was appropriate for where they were going.

Most of the destination was driven in silence on Jett's side; he stared out the windshield, concentrating. He took them deep into the forbidden forest before turning the car off and turning to Versa. The car's light was the only thing keeping them visible in the darkness of the Forbidden Forest.

"Are you sure about this, Versa? This stuff can get messy, and I'm not sure you'll like my methods."

Versailles waited for Jett, fiddling with the small knife she'd bought. It came with a very pretty case and she'd found a thigh sheath for it, not that she would need it today. Today, she'd traded her skirts and sweaters for jeans and a band t-shirt that obviously wasn't hers. All things that covered most of her skin but still allowed movement.

Versailles was definitely impressed by Jett's chosen mode of transportation when he arrived. She didn't mind the silence as she watched out the window. Versailles didn't know what she was really expecting when Jett said he'd pick her up. Probably more bloodstains on the upholstery and less.. cleanliness.

The fox-girl turned to Jett as the truck stopped, her tail visibly starting to bristle at the thick darkness. Was she sure? No. Not at all. She wanted to turn back and return to the light of the city.

"I'm sure. Anyone who jumps me isn't likely to play fair. I'm an easy target, you know?"

Jett was amused. First by Versa's tiny little letter opener, and then by her surprise at his ride. He'd so much as said, "I'm full of surprises." Jett hummed. Pleasant. He opened his door and as he stood, pulled a large skinning knife from his boot. He flashed it at Versa. "Now, this is a knife. You have a letter opener. That's fine. We can work with that."

He motioned her on, further into the woods. "You want to start with a knife fight? We could find a nasty animal. Oooh, that could help. Or you could just try your moves on me. We could skin something!"

Versailles winced at the size of Jett's knife as she slipped out of the truck. She was worried enough about the size of her own, she didn't know how he managed to hide that on him. She wasn't too sure he understood the meaning of teach either.

"I don't think it's physically possible to hide a knife like that when you're wearing a skirt. I'm not starting a knife fight either. The whole point of me asking you to do this is because I have no idea how to use this properly. I'd probably get killed before I even had a chance to attack."

Versailles's ears had tucked in flat to her head, clearly expressing her fear just as much as her fluffed up tail. She wrapped her arms around herself and watched Jett's movements.

Jett had to laugh at her reasoning, light and perky. Oh, practicing with a knife made today great. Just fucking dandy! "How else do you think I was gonna teach you to use a knife, other than a knife fight? You'll be fighting with a knife to defend yourself, so it stands to reason you need to learn how to knife fight. Wouldn't you agree?"

Once far enough in, Jett turned to Versa, smile ever present and motioned her closer. "Now, don't be afraid, Versa, I'm not going to stab you. C'mere."

If she walked over to him, Jett slid into position, wielding his knife in a way that suggested he did it more often than the average person. "First thing is first; we're going to start with the forward grip. Easier for beginners." He flipped his knife, so he was holding it skyward and blade away from his body.

"There are some basic rules to defending yourself with a knife that you have to keep in mind. Most of them are just common sense. Firstly, always keep your body behind the knife and use your other arm to guard your chest, neck, and stomach." As he explained, Jett showed her what he meant. "And never extend the arm holding the knife all the way out. It leaves you open to attack and being disarmed."

Versailles slowly approached Jett, her curiousity overcoming her fear just enough for her to move closer. She attempted to mimic Jett's stance as best she could, but her hands shook and she was curled inward more than necessary. Versailles tried her best to concentrate on what he was saying, but she kept blanking out, her gaze focusing on the deadly sharp blade in her hand.

"I don't think I can do this."

The fox girl let her legs collapse beneath her, falling to her knees and sitting back on her heels as the knife dropped to the ground in front of her.

"I can't..."

Jett sighed and slipped his knife back into its sheath. He pulled a marker from his jean pocket and walked over to Versa, crouching in front of her. He held the marker out, voice soft. "Try with this instead. It'll help with the nerves."

He wrapped an arm around her shoulders and gave her a reassuring squeeze. "What's the problem? Afraid of hurting someone? Nervous about the power a knife gives?"

Versailles leaned against Jett's chest and clung tightly to his shirt. Her breathing was ragged and shallow, and she tried her best not to cry.

"I don't know... I think its more.. A fear of blood."

Versailles curled in closer to Jett's chest, tugging a little at his shirt.

"I hate even being in the presence of guns. Can't stand them... I guess I'm not much better with knives. I've seen what these weapons can do in good hands, and what they can do in the hands of someone who doesn't know how to use them. It's always worse when they don't know what they're doing. They damage things that a decent fighter wouldn't and the wound never heals properly..."

Okay, awkward crying girl. Jett would have said something more, but she was nuzzling into his chest and thus wouldn't have been able to hear him. He tilted her chin so she could look at his lips as he spoke.

"Okay, okay. We'll use the markers for now just to get your muscle memory working. Defending yourself with a knife isn't so much about hurting a person as it is intimidating them and disarming them. You can do that, can't you? I think you can."

Versailles blinked to clear her vision so she could understand Jett. Everything was still a little blurry, but as long as she could make heads or tails about what he was saying it was fine.

"Yeah. I.. I should be able to manage that. I don't know about the intimidating part though. It's hard to scare someone away when you've got fluffy ears and a tail that gets fluffier when you're scared."

Versailles pulled away from Jett, steadying her breathing. She put her knife back in its case and left it in a clearly visible place so she could find it later. The fox-girl held her hand out for the marker, trying to de-fluff her tail with the other hand.
