"When you're fighting with a knife, you always want to be moving, and your primary goal is to disarm and run. Like I said before, never fully extend your arm and if the other person does, cut them. Right there," Jett showed her the crook of his arm. "It doesn't need to be deep, just enough to get them to drop whatever they're holding. Go for the wrists and all those weak spots and make sure not to linger. Got all that?"
Jett bounced on his feet, flipping his knife and returning it to its sheath. No need to have it right now it'd probably just make Versa more nervous anyway. "Practice on me with the marker."
Versailles did her best to remain calm as she held the marker out the way Jett showed her to. Her stance was cleaner now, and she relaxed more when Jett put his knife away too. This time, concentrating was much easier, and she slowly crept forward until she was within arms length of Jett and took the cap off of the marker.
"So try to hit here" She drew a mark in the center of his wrist. "Where you can severe a muscle or some veins, and they'll drop their weapon? Just that easy? Hit them at a joint and run away? What if they've come up behind me?"

Jett reached out slowly and caught her wrist, pushing her arm closer to her body. "Don't let anyone get a chance to cut you in the arm or grab your wrist and disarm you. What kind of places are you planning to walk around that you might get jumped? That's also important. Are we talking the Underground or the Strip? The forest?"
Versailles nodded, trying to memorize every word. Knife fighting was very logical, really. Hit the weak spots, don't be a hero, don't look back while you run. She wasn't sure how well she'd be able to predict when someone was behind her with her lack of hearing. Being able to fight them while they were in front of her would have to be enough.
"Russia. I might be going back to Russia and I'm not exactly a favorite there. Or elsewhere really. If you did your research after last time, I'm very sure that my aunt and uncle weren't working alone."

He ushered her in position, so she put the mark to her his back. This would be a lot harder to teach when she couldn't hear him like this. He rose his arms over his head and, in the blink of an eye, hit her wrist with his elbow and turned, taking hold of her wrist. "Need me to show you again, but slower this time?"
Versailles took a deep breath and nodded. Chances are if someone had a gun to her back, she wouldn't be capable of anything but collapsing unconscious. Still, it would be preferable to at least have some notion of how to deal with it.
"I don't think you need to worry about me holding a gun. If a knife is bad, a gun is worse."
Versailles looked a little confused as Jett positioned her, until the marker was at his back. The fox-girl squeaked as his elbow came down ontop of hers. She rubbed her wrist, pulling it out of Jett's grip.
"If you don't mind, I would appreciate it. Just please don't hit so hard this time. I think I'll be needing the use of my wrists later."

Jett grinned. He hadn't hit hard, did this girl bruise easy or what? Whatever. He nodded after a good-natured roll of his eyes and got back into position, slowing himself down to show her how he did it.
"You can't hesitate when you do this, the point of the move is to disarm someone and hurt the hand they're using to hold their weapon. I wouldn't recommend you trying to grab the person's wrist 'cause you're kind of small. But even if they shoot or try to stab you as you're turning, the idea is that they'll get your side rather than your spine. Now you try."
He gently took the marker from her and took hold of her shoulders to steer her into position, taking place behind her and pushing the head of the marker to the middle of her back.
Versailles noted every shift in muscle as Jett went through the motions agian, determined to get it right the first time. She allowed Jett to position her and held her arms up as the marker pressed into her back. the idea is that they'll get your side rather than your spine. The fox girl went through the movements slowly at first, twisting and bringing down her elbow. Her timing was off, and she knew that if she'd have been moving faster she would have missed.
Versailles turned agian and went through the move at a faster pace, this time hitting Jett's wrist accurately, but not hard enough to cause any pain.
"I'm thinking I'll need more than just practice for this..."

"I'm thinking I'll need more than just practice for this..."

"Hm?" Jett hummed and rubbed his wrist where she had struck him to lessen the tension there. It didn't hurt, but if it had that wouldn't have bugged him, either. "Like what?"
He glanced to where his knife was and made a contented sigh. Jett loved working with knives, but the things he'd have had fun teaching weren't something Versa would have wanted to learn. They weren't things most people would have wanted to learn. Cutting things open correctly, skinning, making people bleed out.
"Can't expect you to get any of it down in one lesson. These things take time. If you're beating yourself up, don't."
Versailles shook her head. It wasn't the technique she needed to work on. Well, it was one of many things.
"Strength. Even if I'm just facing some lanky teenager I don't actually have the strength to fight them off if they grab me before i have a chance to grab my knife. I'm not beating myself up, I'm regretting life choices."
Versailles took the marker back from Jett and practiced the basic knife stance.
"I was never interested in being big and strong, so I never really tried to be. Pare- my aunt and uncle did most of the work, so i just kinda read books and did homework and lay in the biodome with the non-murdery animals. We used to have ferrets with bat wings. You should see if Toby will dress up as dracula or something for halloween."
