Kenta shrugged. "If you weren't a good person, you wouldn't have helped me, would you have?" He asked, though with their arrival, the chance to answer was cut off.
When she opened the door to the ice cream parlor, he stopped and tilted his head. "So you just want regular ice cream then?" He asked in confusion. "I thought we'd get mochi over there." He added, pointing behind him to the rather large and expensive looking restaurant across the street. The building almost looked more like a temple than a restaurant.

Cant remember how I described the one Laetus brought Maddie to, but its the same place :P

Shay had gotten distracted by him, admittedly. She would have pointed out that she may have helped him to shut him up, but then he was mentioning mochi again. Shay didn't know what that was, but she knew enough to know it was Japanese. So she should have guessed it wouldn't be here. She looked from one building to the other. "I don't know what mochi is," she conceded tone bitter at her ignorance. "Also, that place looks expensive. Do you even have money on you?"

"Hm?..." He reached around in his sleeve and plucked out a pouch that was shaped like a frog. When he moved it around, coins could be heard jingling around. "I wouldn't have invited you out if I couldn't pay." He told her with a smile before heading across the street.
"Mochi is great, Shay-shay. You'll love it!"

Shay again twitched when she was called Shay-shay. What a ridiculous nickname! "Please, stop calling me that." She turned and followed him, this time staying well behind. Now that he wasn't looking, her cheeks had gone a hint red. She quickly put her hands to them to try and cool them off. How had she messed up so badly?

Once inside the restaurant, Shay stopped in the middle of the room and peered around. Unsurprisingly, it was very Japanese. Shay had never been interested in Asian culture; she was more about European studies. She took a seat in the far back, pushing herself into a corner so she could watch the entire room. Better for no one to sneak up on her.

"Aww, I thought it was a cute nickname." He answered, seeming to pout. Kenta waved at a waitress, and she waved back. He must come here a lot.
When she sat down, he moved in right next to her. "If you don't like that, I'll have to come up with something else." He told her with a smirk. Soon, the woman he waved to came around.
"Hey kiddo." She greeted him happily. "You brought a friend? Thats unusual for you. They usually think you're messing with them, right?"
Kenta laughed. "Yeah. She actually came though. First time for everything I guess." He seemed really happy. "Can we get some mochi? Like a bunch. She's never had it before."
"Really? Between you and Lae." She smirked and pinched his cheek. "Is this how you two impress girls or something?"
"Quit it!" He pushed her hand away, blushing a bit. "I just wanted to bring my friend here. Don't say embarrassing things like that."
She backed off, satisfied with his reaction. She looked to Shay. "Anything else, sweetie? Something to drink maybe?"

For a second Shay's eyes widened when he slipped into the booth beside her, then the look swiftly turned sour. She put her back against the wall and her right foot on his leg as she tried to push him from the booth. "Sit on the other side," she griped. Her attemps were ceased when the woman came to the table, but she did keep her foot against his thigh.

Shay's pushing started right back up when the woman mentioned impressing girls. Shay wasn't to be impressed dammit! Didn't he get it? She didn't like people! She barely tolerated them. Why was he pushing so hard to be around her? It's not like she was engaging or friendly. There were plenty of other people he could spend his time with.

She once again paused when she was looked at and spoken to. In an entirely normal tone of voice, too normal for how she'd just been comically pushing him off the seat, she said, "yes. Some lavender tea please, with a little honey." She waited until the woman walked away before her gaze swung to Kenta and her face pinched once more. "I'm unimpressed. Don't try to impress me!"

Kenta's face turned cherry red and fell into the table, his arms moving to hide his embarrassment. "Why did she have to say stuff like that." He mumbled before picking his head up enough to speak clearly. "I just thought you might like this place. It's a place Laetus and I go a lot... Its nice."

Shay realized the boy wasn't going to move, no matter how hard she tried to get him to. With a frustrated huff, she went to slip under the table and into the other booth across from him, planting her back against the wall there. "I'm just warning you. I'm not easily impressed."

Shay was quiet until her tea arrived when she took a quick sip of it to ensure it was as she liked. She wasn't a huge fan of lavender tea, but it was better than anything else she could think of at the time. The honey made it easier to drink. "How long have you been in Manta Carlos? Two years?"

When the waitress dropped off the tea, she gave Kenta's cheek a quick pinch before heading off again, much to his annoyance.
"Um... Not two years. I spent about a year and a half back home before I finally came here. So... Yeah, Like almost six months... What about you?"

Shay looked into her tea cup, stared at her reflection. "My whole life. I've never left Manta Carlos." When she looked up again, she was more contained than before, eyes duller. "I was orphaned at six, so I live in the orphanage now." She figured she'd get that out of the way.

"Where is your home?"
