Kal is a tall (6'2”) young man and is very physically fit without being hampered by overly built up muscles. He has deep brown eyes that all but pour his emotions out upon his face. He has full lips and long brown hair that casually flows down over his shoulders. His skin always seems to be a little damp and warm, humid air surrounds him. His right arm is covered in intricate tattoo markings from his shoulder all the way to his wrist. Rather than being just ink, the markings are raised slightly from the rest of the skin.
Kal prefers to wear shirts with short or no sleeves on them. He prefers casual clothing and would almost never be seen in a suit. He does tend to bundle himself up or not go outside much when it is cold, though he is extremely loathe to cover up his tattooed arm.

Life with his adoptive mother has made him the kind of person to strive for making others happy regardless of how he feels. Whether this is a result of long term exposure to her magic, no one knows. His mother has also been quite controlling both in what he does and how he feels, thanks to her ability to induce relaxation. He's hoping to escape her grasp a little now that he doesn't need to hide himself as much.

Kaliyan is not from this reality. He was born in an alternate world very similar to this one but where their deities were more prominent and active in the daily lives of humans. Kaliyan's mother was a simple wife of a fisherman on a small pacific island. One night the storm god, Haucon, was bored and wished to lay with one of the mortals as he had made too many of his own kin to control. The other gods had threatened to take away his power if he sired any more. Kal's mother was alone while her husband was out on a longer fishing voyage. She was unable to turn the god away. Haucon forgot about the night, though the woman of course did not. Nine months later she gave birth to Kal, though she had named him Huri Pari. She panicked when she saw him for on his right shoulder there was a tiny black mark in the shape of the symbol for Haucon. She knew the god would find out and his wrath would be terrible.
Haucon didn't learn of the child until close to the child's first birthday. He could not allow another child of his to live or he risked losing his own powers. He began to gather a massive storm to swallow the island entirely.
Desperate to save her son and everyone she knew the woman begged for someone to help her. Her cries were answered by one of the devils that sought to make deals with the desperate. He offered her the chance to save her child from the wrath of the god and she accepted. In exchange the devil gained the woman as his servant until the day her son freed her from servitude himself. The devil ripped a hole into another dimension and tossed the baby through. He cackled with glee at his completed deal. As far as he knew the baby, which had been dropped into the ocean on the other side, would drown and never become a threat to him but since he was in another place the baby was technically protected from Haucon's wrath.
Fortunately his latent godly powers allowed him to not drown but that was about all he could do. Alone, terrified and floating in the pacific ocean baby Kal began to wail and shriek. The water around him began to swirl and form into a small waterspout. It would have been pointless-except that it attracted attention from a passing sea dragon. Lyrseir had been traveling across the ocean, as she liked to do on her vacation, and spotted the strange formation.
When she found the baby in the center of the waterspout she was confused how such a young child could be surviving out in the ocean. Also the wailing of the baby was quite annoying. She decided to go ahead and just eat the baby so neither of them would have to suffer any more. As expected, when she touched the baby with her claw the child grew silent and relaxed. However as the baby slipped under the waves Lyrseir noticed that it was still breathing without any issue. This was a special child and she changed her mind about eating it. She was unable to bear children any more but maybe this baby that had been placed right there for her to find could be just as much a child to her.

Lyrseir carefully brought the baby Kal home with her to the small place she kept in the resort city of Coronado, California. She was the one who named him Kaliyan, a name she had heard her mother whispering to one of her other eggs. One that had never had the chance to hatch.
Kal grew up like any normal american child. He attended public school and all he knew was that his mother had adopted him and his biological parents were no longer in the picture. Lyrseir was a great mother, if a little focused on her own business ventures. She owned and operated a luxury spa called the Nautilus that catered to the rich and to tourists. Kal was expected to work in his mother's business as soon as he was old enough, working behind the scenes even before it was technically legal.
Kal was happy to work for his mom's business and he felt right at home, though sometimes he felt like maybe his mother was hiding things from him and a little more controlling than he would like. In addition to school and working part time for his mom he also liked to go to the beach and surf. As he approached puberty his powers began to manifest, along with building anger and frustration deep inside him. One day he lashed out with his wind and water at his mom. His mother was not injured by the water and the cuts from the wind were too minor to worry about. She began helping Kal through his anger. Kal also gravitated towards a nearby boxing gym to help relieve some of his frustrations and learn to control himself. He wasn't interested in going professional but he was in great physical condition so he did pretty well in training and sparring.
Though Lyrseir wasn't able to be told Kal's actual birth date, she had estimated his age to be less than a year old when she found him and later there was absolutely no question what day of the year his birth fell on. As a child he would wake up with horrible nightmares of being drowned every year after midnight on his birthday and for the following week. Once Kal hit puberty the nightmares started being accompanied by the ripping open of the flesh on his arm to magically re-form the tattooing that now adorns his arm. It still happens and pretty much ruins his birthday and the following week every single year.
Kal really, really wanted to try to separate himself from being just the son of Lyrseir. He bega n trying to research anything he could about himself. The tattoos on his arms turned out to be similar to those of the Maori people and other pacific islanders but not quite the same. He found out his birth certificate had been faked and he had no way of knowing who his real parents were. When he confronted Lyrseir she eventually admitted that she found him in the ocean and didn't know where he came from. Kal left before Lyrseir could get her hands on him to calm him down and he stormed off to the beach. Between the wind whipping around him and the sudden flooding of water from his body he was quite the sight to behold. Lyrseir caught up and tackled him to the ground, magically calming him once more. With too much risk of being exposed, Lyrseir decided that she needed to move to Manta Carlos to keep her family safe. She sold off her business and opened a new one on the islands once she got there. Of course Kal was required to work there at least part time while still in school, so she can keep a close eye on him. He is thriving on the island- though the winter has sapped him of most of his energy when he's outdoors for any amount of time.

- Resurrection- this is an almost never used spell. It requires an entire day of careful preparation and a large amount of money in fine inks and paper. Once the talisman is used, on some portion of remains or treasured item of the departed, both the caster and the target will be alive but comatose for two weeks before waking. This spell can bring back any person who has died within the last week as long as their soul is willing to return to the mortal world.
- Can produce an uncontrolled flood of warm salt water in an area he is standing in when he has been sufficiently angered. He has no control over it, the water just rapidly pours out from his whole body. The most he has ever done is 1000 gallons.
- At will he can produce a smaller, more controllable, amount of warm water, up to 200 gallons at a time, and decide whether it is salt or fresh water. It is produced at the roughly the rate of a faucet from his hands or feet , with no extra force. The water remains comfortably warm while he is concentrating on it or it is in contact with any part of his body
- Additionally he can also summon clouds to produce up to a moderately steady rainfall within a 20' radius of himself for up to an hour. He can only use this part of the ability once every 24 hours. The clouds can be shaped and moved within that radius as long as the ability is active. Strangely the water is always warm.
