SPECIES
Species: Sensus
This species call themselves by the name of "Sensus (singular and plural)" (Latin; meaning feeling, sense, thought, understanding, mind). Every other species call them "Mindlish (plural "Mindlishes)."

Sensus have the same height range as humans. Their eyes, if they are pure of Sensus blood, are rarely the same colours as humans and glow ever-so-slightly. The most common eye colours are gold and silver. Their ears are pointed, and are different in length and pointiness from each individual to another and are dominated by dominant and recessive genes just as humans' hair colours and body structures are. Other than their eyes and ears, there are virtually no physical differences between them and humans.

Sensus may look like humans on the outside, but are fairly different on the inside. They share virtually every organ with humans and a similar lifespan, but also have a second heart. They can live without this second heart, as its only purpose is to serve as a backup for if the first fails. As a result of having two hearts, they each beat slower, beating when the other isn't; taking turns. However, if something happens that makes a Sensus too angry, both hearts will pump at once, possibly ending in a heart attack from both hearts depending on how long the anger lasts. Because of this, most Sensus live a monk-like life, believing that anger is an emotion that should always be under control — even though they are prone to anger, as it basically courses through their veins. Sensus' emotions become heightened during full moons along with elongated and sharp canines. They believe this is so as they have thought of themselves as servants of the Moon for longer than anyone can remember. Likely due to their devotion to the Goddess of the Moon (simply referred to as "the Moon"), most become depressed during new moons, some feeling guilty — as if they caused the moon's disappearance.

All Sensus have the power to create a separate entity connected to themselves which, while having to leave their own body unconscious until done to do so, they can control just like their normal body. These separate entities are called Avatars. Avatars are physical beings, living, breathing, and aging, though they do not think for themselves, as they are not sentient, and the only time they move when not being controlled is when they're breathing. They look just like their creator, but can have some things altered such as hair length, hair colour, eye colour, some body parts (often, Sensus tend to give their Avatar's body animal parts such as ears of a cat or legs of a goat, yet serve no function other than being aesthetically pleasing), and even physical sex. Once the Avatar's appearance is chosen, it cannot be changed. Sensus can create Avatars at will, at the cost of having a major power drain and likely being unconscious for up to a couple days, and can also delete them from existence, which has the same consequences as creating them. However, they can only have up to two Avatars at a time. This is because all Sensus have two sub-powers (which are different to different individuals, and are passed down through genetics), but they can only use the powers through an Avatar after attaching that power to it. An Avatar can only have one power attached to it at a time.

Though this may seem very powerful, Sensus do not have unlimited power or strength. They can only be in control of their Avatar for a limited amount of time without stressing themselves out mentally and physically too much, though that time can be elongated with practiced use of their Avatars. Even so, prolonged use of their Avatars is the least of their worries. It's prolonged use of the powers attached to their Avatars that can put them in power usage comas lasting from a week to longer depending on how much power they used when not strong enough for such usage. As well, Sensus cannot immediately switch from one Avatar to the next. The waiting time varies from person to person (based on their strength, etc.), but is never lower than an hour. This is because the Sensus's hearts are beating in sync to the Avatar's, as the act of controlling them does so, which keeps them connected to the Avatar. Until their hearts stop beating in sync, which happens over time, the Sensus cannot connect with the another Avatar. They can, however, continue to connect with the same Avatar.

This species is mine. I created it, and I love it. Please do not use without my permission. If you want to make a Sensus, feel free to ask!

Jac stands at a lowly 5'1" from the ground. She is fairly underweight, with her hips clearly showing and her ribs barely showing — though she normally hides both under slightly baggy clothes. She has broad-ish shoulders and wide hips, though the rest of her is pretty much very slender and small. Her face has soft features, with rounded eyes and a short, rounded nose. Her lips are modestly full, petitely shaped, and of a natural, light rosey colour. On her chest lies a small set of breasts, barely filling an A cup bra. Her irises are a silver that's so light, they almost look white. Her skin is nearly like porcelain, minus that it has a very slight yellow-ish tint. Her hair is naturally a medium brunette, and is free of any styling other than a brush; it's naturally all even, straight as a line, is side parted with the left side having more hair, and its length reaches just below her shoulder blades. She always has her hair covering her ears, hiding them. Her ears are slightly tall and are pointed nicely, almost like a blade, and their orbit is just close enough to the skull to allow them to be hidden by her hair. Though she is seventeen, her size and shape makes her appear to be somewhere between thirteen to fifteen, making others commonly guess her age wrongly and most are shocked and tend to not believe her at first when she reveals her age.

Her fashion sense is fairly simple and modest. When wearing the uniform, she always wears the winter option shirt, despite weather or season. Her wardrobe, minus the school uniform, rarely contains any colour not on the grayscale. The only colour that's non-grayscale in her wardrobe is any form of green. She rarely wears skirts outside of her uniform, and they are always past her knee when she does. She prefers to wear jeans, ones that are non-fitting and often sport a bell bottom. As for tops, she never wears anything that has a sleeve shorter than at her wrist, unless it's a second layer, and the collar never shows her collarbone. During Spring, Summer, and Autumn, she wears either black tennis shoes with a white sole or black flip flops. During Winter, she wears either the same tennis shoes, or black calf-high boots, which she tucks the legs of her jeans in. Always around her neck (though under her shirt when wearing a uniform) is a loose, black string necklace that reaches to her bust. At the end of the necklace is a charm made of silver in the shape of an owl head, with cut amethyst stones for eyes and a shaped black feather for a body.

Her hair being behind her left ear is purely for being able to see what her ears look like. In character, she will rarely ever have her ears showing (when she has long enough hair).

Around people she doesn't know, she is very shy and doesn't like to talk much. She has anxiety issues and anxiety attacks related to having to talk to people she doesn't know. She also has trust issues, and it takes a lot to earn her trust enough to become a friend. But once trusted and a friend, she opens her shell to reveal a very sweet, kind, silly, and somewhat crazy (in a good way) personality. She is very caring and loyal once she trusts someone. If need be, she would even give the shirt off her back to a person she trusts and loves if they needed it. She keeps an open-minded perspective to most things, though she can sometimes be pretty dense when things aren't spelled out.

However, not all of her is good. She is prone to unruly, uncanny, and uncontrollable levels of jealousy. She doesn't mean nor want to get jealous, but there's normally no stopping it. It can be over trivial things that she gets massively jealous over, from someone saying "hi" to someone else before her, to someone choosing to do homework rather than hang out with her. When her levels of jealousy are too high, she becomes angry at the person she's jealous of, and sometimes says things to hurt them. Though, once she calms down, she usually realizes her mistake and takes it back.

As a Sensus, anger courses through her veins. She normally has it under control, and has tough skin when it comes to people trying to get under it, but everyone has their breaking point. Jac never gets simply angry. She's either not angry, or full-out raging; there is no in-between When pushed past her breaking point, she rages. During her rage, she becomes the exact opposite of her normal self; she's rude, loud, and vindictive. She often yells at the top of her lungs and throws things. As of now, only her family has seen her rage.

Jac is also very paranoid, and often reads far too into things and takes things the wrong way, ending in disputes with people. This paranoia, along with her OCD, contributes to her mindset of always needing a plan. She often annoys people by constantly asking "But what if..." when they give an answer to one of her questions of concern. She feels as if she always needs to be prepared for anything and everything.

Major Power
Sensus Avatar (See power section in species description spoiler)
  • Jac currently is only able to have one Avatar at a time.
  • Her current one is the same Avatar she's had since she was twelve years old, and has grown with her. It's physically male, and resembles her, but not fully — almost as if it were her fraternal twin. She made him to look like a human, with round-tipped ears and green, non-glowing eyes. He has short, black hair. She dubbed him the name "Raven."
  • Even though she's used to it from doing it all her life, prolonged use of being connected to her avatar leaves her with a migraine for a good while.

Major Sub Powers
Telepathy
  • Jac knows of her possession of this power.
  • This power is attached to Raven.
  • Jac's telepathy currently consists of only the ability to create "chat rooms" inside someone's mind to speak with them privately.
  • Prolonged use of this power gives both Raven's body and Jac's body a nosebleed and a massive migraine. Continued use ends in unconsciousness (length of time depends of how long she pushed herself past her limit).

Toxin Generation
  • Jac does not know of her possession of this power.
  • This power is not attached to an Avatar.
  • This ability makes various plant and animal toxins run through an Avatar's veins. It gives them a resistance to poison, venom, and toxins.
  • It also makes physical contact transfer the toxins to the being who came in contact with the Avatar, though will not do much more than make them nauseous (since this power will be weak once discovered).
  • Prolonged use of the Avatar with this power will make the Sensus nauseous for a period of time (length of time depends of how long the Avatar was used).

Childhood
Jac was born, along with her twin sister Amethyst, into poverty in the year 1998. Her family wasn’t the poorest, as they had money for the basic necessities (though mostly cheap versions), but she rarely got something she wanted yet didn’t need. On the rare occasion she received something she wanted — which was usually at Christmas or on her birthday — she treasured it completely. Since birth, Jac and Amethyst have had a matching set of teddy bears.

Her family lived among humans. It was custom to have one of your Avatars look human and use it to blend in with the humans. It was forbidden to leave the house in your own body rather than in an Avatar. Because of this, Jac grew up training to be able to be in control of an Avatar — without using its power — for extended periods of time. At age four, her parents had her create her first Avatar. It looked exactly like her, but with round-tipped ears and green, non-glowing eyes. Her family trained her to be able to be in control of it for extended periods of time, specifically for how long a school day would typically last for preparation to send her to school. At age five, she could control her Avatar just a bit longer than the time it took to go to school and come home at the end of the day, and thus her parents enrolled her in kindergarten.

She didn’t have many friends at school. Most people considered her too weird and strange to even talk to. The few friends she did have weren’t allowed to come to her house, since her parents feared the humans finding out about them. However, her family moved around often, and she rarely stayed in one place for too long and lost contact with friends when she moved.

In 4th grade, she became extremely interested in reading and writing and would always do it during her free time in class, rather than talk to others. She was constantly bullied for being weird and antisocial, though the bullying never became physical. Also around this time, she began to feel that she wasn’t really a she, but she kept it to herself.

In 6th grade, her family moved to a new state in February. She saw this as her opportunity, and killed off her Avatar. This sudden choice shocked and confused her parents, but they were more concerned with the coma it put her in. After she was out of the coma, her parents asked her why she killed off her Avatar, to which she responded “I wanted a new one.” While it was true she wanted a new Avatar, the real reason that made her kill off her Avatar was that she was starting to think she was male, and wanted to try to be one to see for sure. Her parents didn’t punish her, and allowed her to create a new Avatar. She created it on her birthday. The new Avatar she created looked very similar to her, but was physically male with short, black hair, round-tipped ears, and green, non-glowing eyes. She called him “Raven.”

Teenager
On her 16th birthday, Amethyst gave her a loose, black string necklace that reached to her bust. At the end of the necklace was a charm made of silver in the shape of an owl head, with cut amethyst stones for eyes and a shaped black feather for a body. Jac was overjoyed at the gift, as she loves owls, and vowed to never remove it from her neck minus sleeping and bathing/showering. Her parents gave her a large, enchanted book. It was filled with blank pages and had a spell on it that made it never run out of pages, be able to go to a specific page if numbered, and be able to appear as a normal-sized book on the outside if the number of pages became rather high. It came with a quill spelled to never break and a jar of ink spelled to never run out. She cherished the book and immediately began writing poems in it.

In the middle of the semester of 10th grade, her family moved schools again.

Everything was the same through all her years — love for reading and writing, bullying, etc. — up to 11th grade. In 11th grade, Jac met a certain boy named Ubel. They instantly became friends, and she felt connected to him somehow. Later, she found out why she felt the weird connection. Ubel told her that he was a Sensus, and she was so rejoiced to have a friend of her own kind. They eventually became a couple, holding hands and eating together with their Avatars at school. Sadly, though, he became verbally abusive, calling her bad names and blaming her for everything, and eventually broke up with her. It broke her heart, and she vowed to never date again.

Then, in the middle of December in 2015, Jac and Amethyst received letters from Starlight Academy. After reading it, she became extremely excited and nervous. She had hope that Starlight Academy could be a place where she could be herself, free from bullying of being different. She decided that she would go. Sadly, Amethyst decided not to. Jac became torn since she had never been away from her sister before, but she didn’t let it sway her decision. Her parents were sad that she would be away from them, as they didn't want to go to the island with her, but they allowed her to go. Her mother gave her a large suitcase that had a couple of a magician's spell put on it. The first made the suitcase’s weight be no more than that of your typical vacation suitcase, no matter what was inside it. The second made oxygen always available on the inside. It was for towing Raven with her.

Once she had a ferry ticket to Manta Carlos Island, Jac packed Raven in the suitcase — gently wrapped in linen from toe to neck while curled in a ball to fit in the suitcase — along with her prized possession book with the quill and ink jar, a few interchangeable outfits from her closet, an antique picture frame with a picture of her and her family, a simple black bedspread, her now-worn and rough-looking teddy bear, and a bit of starting off money given from her parents. After packing, she immediately set off for Starlight Academy with a gleam of hope in her eyes.
