A Friday evening off for a surgeon was like finding a unicorn in the narrow reality. Weekends free from being elbow deep in some creature’s rib cage were few and far between, and for Connie, the opportunity didn’t usually amount to much. Most of her days off were spent pants-free and in front of the TV, usually accompanied by pirated clown soap operas and bubblegum ice cream.

But tonight, she decided to shake things up. There were a few joints she had been meaning to check out, as if to make up for the years she wasted in her twenties burying her nose in books. She was still young…. ish. So she probably still had it in her to hit up the town and visit a club or two.

She sat at the bar of one of the most popular clubs on the island, and it was indeed bustling. She had ordered a daiquiri, the kind that was more sugar than alcohol. Connie didn’t drink often anyway, considering hard liquor might as well have been poison to someone who grew up on a birthday cake diet. But a fruity girly drink was enough to get the job done. And by job, she meant actually having the courage to put herself out there.

She downed some of her drink unceremoniously, swiveling in place on her bar stool. She was wearing an actually cute outfit for once- a body on dress that managed to be one of the few nice things she had that didn’t get ruined by blood. Out of the corner of her eye she could see people dancing, groups of young women out on a girls night, and freshly created matchups possibly about to get lucky. She sighed. Why did she feel so… different?

Dancing was something that Chiffon knew well. And here she seemed to be popular due to her ability to bend and stretch like no one else. She often only had to pay for half of the drinks she drank, with men and women offering to buy her some in a vain hope she'd go home with them. But that wasn't the kind of clown she was. She wanted, needed that emotional connection with someone to even consider something like that.

She was out again tonight, living it up in the dance floor with more than a couple of cotton candy vodka shots further loosening her already wild dance moves. More than that though, these were opportunities to let go of the drag monochrome fashion she'd always been forced into back home. Most of her clothes were still black and white, but here she could take the special occasion to wear something bright and colorful.

And she was bright and colorful tonight. A pink and red plaid shirt tucked into some baby blue high waisted shorts with black suspenders over them. She couldn't help and bring out the clown a little, sporting a matching blue bow tie and suede shoes that had little white puff balls adorning the toes. And of course the beautiful yellow earrings that that nice boy Erione had given her. She wore them at every opportunity.

During a lull in the music, while everyone was catching their breath, she told a joke that got an inebriated chuckle out of most of the group immediately around her. She honked her nose, startling everyone around her with the old timey car horn sound as she did.

AH-WOOOOO-GA!

As the current song faded to silence, Connie stared wistfully into her drink as her mind went to the sound of people in the background. The same group of young women trying to wrangle their posse for a selfie, a man that couldn’t take a hint from a clearly disinterested single woman, and the sound of cheering. It was the normal indistinguishable fanfare she was used to from rowdy crowds growing up. But something in particular caught her attention, which was the sound of an old timey car horn that could only originate from one person.

She swiveled in her bar stool, looking over to see Chiffon. Instinctively, she could feel a pink blush splatter across her cheeks as she looked at the mime under the dancefloors bright lights. She looked so different in her bright clothes, using her gifts to wow the crowd. Connie nervously took a sip of her drink. She was absolutely radiant, and Connie was scared to dull her shine in this moment.

Rather than approach her, Connie waited for their eyes to meet in the lapse between songs. She waved with a sheepish smile, taking it slow to get her attention.

As the music died down and transitioned into the next pounding beat, Chioffon found herself panting a bit at the exertion of it all. She was all smiles, her naturally dark colored lips making the gesture all the more obvious than it normally would have been. Patting one of her tonight-only friends on the back with a few muted, encouraging words, she excused herself from the dance floor for a bit.

Motion caught her attention as she looked for a place to sit and she found herself staring at the only other clown in town. Confetti d'Parti. A surgeon, of all things. It still made her laugh a bit, the irony of it all. But Connie had been nothing but sweet to her, and it wasn't like she could judge her for wanting to be something that back home she would have been treated poorly for.

Putting a rubber hose sway to her gait, Chiffon bounced her way across the bar and spun on her heel to rest against the bar on her elbows right next to Connie. She grinned wide, maybe a little more drunk than she had originally intended to be that night but still sober enough to not make an ass of herself. "Heeeeey, Connie. I didn't think I'd see you here. What's up?"

When Chiffon approached her, Connie noticed that her usual bounciness was more fluid than normal. It was almost mesmerizing watching her move, and now more so than ever. But as she got closer, she could see that her demeanor was shifted due to the power of alcohol. She chuckled to herself, knowing that one way or another this encounter would be memorable.

”Evening Chiffon. And yeah, I’m surprised I ended up here myself.” She took another sip of her drink, swishing it absently in her hand. “I figured I’d take advantage of the nightlife. They’ve started moving me to morning shifts and I actually have more free time now.”. She looked to her, a bit shorter on the count of sitting at the barstool. ”What about you? You look like you’re having fun.” She remarked.

"Well I'm glad you came out. It's really nice to see you." Chiffon gave Connie a wide, closed mouth smile. She brushed her hair out of her eyes, leaning more against the bar and looking out onto the dance floor.

"Back home, the night clubs were some of the few places I felt like I could not be judged. With all the flashing cored lights, nobody could tell I was monochrome. I could just... be a clown."

She was nervous, but trying not to show it. Did Connie judge her for being so wild? She didn't even have a steady job yet and here she was, drinking and partying. Hardly responsible, compared to a doctor. But beyond that, she had been thinking about Connie a lot lately. Practically daydreaming, if she was being honest. Just something... clicked and she couldn't quite explain it.

"Uh, so... since you're here. Would you... like to dance with me?"

Connie nodded in agreement, her naturally-colored magenta lips curling up in a soft smile. She took another sip of her drink. Her gaze matched hers as she looked towards the dancefloor, the flashing colors similar to her face markings. If they were shown on Chiffon, she really could blend in with clowns. Thinking of it, it was really silly and sad how those sorts of things set people back apart at home. But here, it didn’t matter, and Chiffon seemed to really start coming into herself, being who she wanted to be regardless of what society wanted.

”You’re a natural, truly.” She said sincerely. But when the tables were flipped on her, her face flushed pink.

”Me? Dance? Oh god, it’s been so long I-” Her mind flashed to her younger years, being a performer not by choice but by obligation. She had shunned that part of her, until tonight. But it would be different this time. This was supposed to be fun, right? ”Yeah. Um, let’s dance.” She quickly downed the rest of her drink and stood up, holding Chiffon’s hand. ”I warn you, I’m rusty.”

"Well..." Chiffon said, taking Connie's hand enthusiastically with a smile to match, "You've already got yourself oiled up." She gestured to the drink. Alcohol did wonders for loosening up limbs and making worries melt away. "Now let's get those rusty gears moving!"

Leading Connie out onto the dance floor, Chiffon swayed and popped with the music as it picked back up into a new song. She felt herself more self conscious, wanting to impress Connie and make her smile. Or laugh. She had such a great laugh.

She danced closer to her, not quite touching for fear of putting her off, but close enough that every once in a while their noses brushed up against one another. "You know, folks back home would be livid if they could see us right now. Some of them might even flip their wigs. Literally!" She snorted, covering her mouth in brief embarrassment and then laughing properly at the absurdity of it. A lifetime of not laughing because that was what was expected of her. Because she wasn't really a clown.

But in some ways, neither of them were. And that was okay here.

She nodded her head and placed the now empty glass on the counter, rolling her shoulders as if to coax the alcohol through her system. On normal days she’d be the one warning about the dangers of alcohol, but if anything, this was the perfect oppurtunity to unlearn a lot of life lessons for just a moment.

She soon found herself practically teleported from the murmured buzz of the bar to the caucophany of lights and sound that was the dancefloor. Already she could feel her head beating in her chest like a bass drum. She gulped her breath. This really felt familiar.

But what made it different was instead of the judging eyes of her family, it was Chiffon. She was close to her, not quite touching, but the slightest shift could cause her to brush up against her.

She laughed awkwwardly, clearing her throat to speak up. ”Y-yeah, my folks would never let me hear the end of it. For a bunch of clowns, they sure can be killjoys.” She said, her body starting to slowly sway in time with the music. She looked down at her own body and laughed.

”God, I’ve seen three-legged elephants with more grace than me.” She looked back up to Chiffon. ”I can’t remember the last time I’ve danced, let alone with someone else.”

"Well, they can't kill our joy now can they?" Chiffon grew bolder in her dancing, getting closer to Connie and even putting her hand on the other woman's hips. She swayed and bobbed in time with the music, coaxing out a little more enthusiasm from her dance partner with each beat of the drums.

They were close now, actually touching. Chiffon felt her worries melt away and she couldn't help but look at Connie in a new light. Something about her was just... mellow. But not in a forced way like she had had to be. "Your legs are fine," she said, confusing the metaphor and then blinking back a bit. "Wait no, what I mean is - your dancing is fine. I think you look..."

Chiffon leaned in a bit more, her lips brushing effortlessly up against Connie's for a second. She breathed out worry and breathed in the fluttering sense of belonging that she felt when she was around Confetti. Her cheeks darkened in a gray blush and she watched her, hoping she wasn't about to get slapped.
