Its not as easy as it looks, nor as shallow as it seems.

Addy had done the research, in fact she had even broken down and tried to contact her mom. That didn't work, but she did get a package with a handwritten book called Nekomata 101.
She didnt question it, she just read it. She had learn to become a full cat on her own. It was around 7pm and she needed to be on her way home but she wanted to try this. She needed to know if she could really do this, because it was Addy. She was the type of person that didn't like being told she couldn't do something.

She found a patch of grass and read the first few pages over again. She had to concentrate in her becoming what she wanted. Time passed and she forgot how long she sat there, in silence with her eyes closed. She didn't notice anything and was a bit disappointed when she didn't see fur of any kind.

From a thick undergrowth was a rabid rustling and then out popped the black dog with the strange, eerie aura and stiff walk of a rabid animal. He stopped the second it saw Addy and cocked his head to the side.

With one sneeze and the swift shake of his head, Jett returned to his regular shape. Often in the Forbidden Forest, he took to his larger, scarier Skinwalker form, but the dog was easier to switch to and from.

"Can't say I expected this." Jett wasn't usually caught off guard, but he was right then. Normally he might have leered and made some offensive comment. This was, after all, his domain. "Why the hell are you reading in the Forbidden Forest?"

Addy looked up at Jett and then her mirror her pupils were more catlike a few different specks of colors making their way in. She couldn't even tell anything was different. In fact she sighed in frustration and threw her mirror to the ground.

"I'm trying to change into a cat, my mom is nekomata and I need to learn how to, I'm just jot born able to." She said staring up at Jett. This was one of the only things she had in common with her mom. Even if she had been rejected by her, she wanted to he closer to her somehow.

"I just..don't wa- wait what are you doing in the forest?"

Jett would have said something along the lines of 'maybe you just can't turn into a cat', but he sensed.. whatever that was. He wasn't empathetic, in fact, he had no empathy, but he was smart enough to notice the signs. Right. Okay.

"Oh, me? I'm always in fuckin' creepy places. My being here shouldn't be a surprise at all. I question your choice of surroundings." He rubbed his jaw, inspecting the girl in front of him. Jett wasn't typically helpful. Or when he was, there was always something self-serving behind it, even if that was as simple as boredom.

"Aren't you supposed to do this kind of shit in calming places? So your mind is all free of worry and what not?"

Addy tilted her head and shrugged "I am calm here Jett, I'm not worried." She should be worried but she wasn't. She didn't want to run the risk of her dads or shay catching her trying to shift. She didnt want to explain this to any of them.

She patted the ground in front of her and closed her eyes again. "I just need to focus on shifting different parts of my body at a time. I'm working on my face right now." She said mostly confident. She already had the ears and the tail. She wanted her face to look feline...she wouldn't stop until she had at least managed that on some scale.

"Who would pick peas over corn?" Jett immediately shook his head, having dismissed the rhetorical question the moment he'd asked it. "What would there be to question about you trying to turn into a cat? Fuck, you're twenty-five percent there already."

He took it upon himself to sit across from her, crossing his legs at the ankle and leaning back. "What's it feel like when you're trying to shift? Mine's kinda on the spine and when it happens I just let go and follow the good feeling. I was never good at shifting only one part of myself at a time."

Addy shrugged "I dunno, everything I do seems wrong somehow... Anyways enough teen drama" she said not willing to voice her insecurities to someone who would very surely use them against her. She thought about his question and tilted her head.

"You when you try and fit into your shoes when they're tied? That tight squishy feeling? It feels like that" she explain a light blush on her cheek. She was trying to just not give up and find a different way.

"I feel like just when I can fit in, I loose concentration"

The corner of Jett's mouth quirked at her comparison. He'd never heard that one before, but he imagined the feeling. Jett nodded. "Sounds to me like you're trying to force the feeling rather than just following it." He opened his eyes and rubbed his hands together, thinking up an example for her. "You know how to swim in the ocean when the tide is pulling you away, don't you? Don't fight the waves, follow them. When they pull you back, relax and when they push you forward use your energy to swim. That way you don't tire yourself out.

Think of your shifting like that. When the magic feels farther away from you, don't fight it, just relax and when you feel it surging up, concentrate harder. Yeah? Try that."

For Jett, things had been simpler than that, but he hadn't exactly been born with the ability to shift, either. He closed his eyes, breathed in and let his transformation take him. Sitting in his place was a large black dog, only a little bigger than a German Shepard and with an aura that matched the eerie mood of the Forbidden Forest.

Addy listened, even if she didn't exactly trust Jett she really wanted to learn this. She had to change into a cat, it was the only part of her that she willing accepted and embraced. Maybe she was just using this as am excuse to ignore her other powers, however that didn't matter. She was trying to force it because she felt like it wouldn't happen unless she did. Still his words started to make sense to her, and then she saw the dog and groaned. "Should've known you could change into a dog. Explains a lot."

She nodded and closed her eyes focusing on the feeling, trying to let it come to her instead of forcing her way in. She felt it pulling away and she relaxed, letting it coming to her but it was moving so slow. She just had to grab it and the feeling once again slipped away.

"I-I tried it your way and then I got impaitent" she said leaning backward to lay on her back. "You make a really cool dog, even if you're a creepy dog.

Jett's tongue rolled out of his mouth in a comical laughing expression. The dog snorted and shook, returning to his human form to talk again. "I know I do," he said, pride laced in every word.

He scooted so he could sit beside her and leaned over her only a tag to look at her face. There was something close to frustration in his expression, but that could easily just been concentration. "Close your eyes and try again, but this time, don't focus too much on the magic. Focus on your other senses. Smell, hearing, touch. Feel the world around you. Feel the magic and just pull it toward you, slowly. Imagine it belongs there."

Jett laid back with her, not close enough to touch, but enough that she knew he was there. "Fuck, I'll even imagine with you. Just for the funsies."

There was the question of his actually helping her. Truthfully, Jett didn't know why he did everything he did, either. Most of these things came in impulses for him, but secretly, Jett just liked teaching things.
