Isn't this the perfect shot?

Shinji had not done too much with his powers as of late. He was being way too laid back for his own comfort now that he was in a good position for himself. Maybe his position was too good. Shinji left everything to the wind when he left his dorm finally. he had no roommate so he was able to at least stay sane without having to explain where he was to an over concerned roommate, or even one that didn't really care. It was pretty early in the morning however. Just after the break of dawn had risen high enough to call itself ready for the day.

It wasn't normal for Shinji to wake up so early in the morning so he was pretty groggy. His eyes were half open, his tone was low, and his perception for anything other than food was lower than the IQ of an amoeba. He slithered his way through the halls of the academy without a single sound that he could recognize. His dark blue shirt and jeans almost seemed to be black whenever he wasn't in range of a window to clarify the color with light. Yawning was the only thing that gave notice to him not being a literal zombie since it almost seemed like he was dead inside. Shinji sighed once he reached the stairs that led to the main floor where he could finally leave the building. This was the worst part of his morning, fortunately. Once he passed the dreaded stairs, his day could truly start.

It took the young man way too long to long to get to the bottom of the stairs since someone like him would be able to almost jump down the whole flight in a single leap. But no, today was special. It seemed as if he had only gotten one, maybe two, hours of sleep prior to his waking up.

Shinji reached the door finally on the south end of the academy. He was almost ready to start his day, first he needed something to wake him up. He only had a glimpse of what was before him since he was barely even looking through his eye lids now as it is. He had no idea that it was so bright outside now since not only are his eyes barely open, but his eyes naturally dim the light. This was going to be brutal to him. It only took one step forward for him to get out of the door, and only one more step bring him into the suns rays.

"Sweet holy..." Shinji yelped as he shielded his contorted face from the sun. The sun's beautifully colored rays were blinding and warm to the skin. The sun seemed a million times bigger and brighter this morning for some odd reason, or maybe its just him? Either way, it didn't take much longer for Shinji to adjust to the beauty that awaited him outside. The smell of fresh cut grass stained his nostrils, a light breeze tickled his skin, and the sound of birds singing their lungs away greeted his ears the way only the soft tone of a women's voice could. Unfortunately it seemed that he was the only one out here at the moment so why not move along?

"Alright what to do today?" Shinji asked himself as he walked casually away from the door he exited from. His thoughts ran through his mind like a horse race. All the things he could do escaped him, however, so the only thing he could really think of was some more power related things. "I could always try to do some target practice, but I don't know how to do that on my own ...Well I'll have to try or else I'll never get it done." Shinji thought aloud since there was no one around to here him really. The more he walked, the more he thought. He thought, and he thought, until he noticed he was close to the woods. "Perfect" He said to himself as he shifted his direction towards the woods. This was the perfect place to have target practice. So why not learn something new today?

Lyra decided that she was going to get an early practice session in. The days had been moving so quickly around her that it was making her head spin. Of course, she was enjoying herself here at the school the more that she got used to it. Everything was still so interesting to her. Everyone was so different.

She never thought she'd see life this way. It had only been a month but she felt more alive than ever, and more at home too. Just being with other people that didn't take one look at her ears and burst out in laughter was refreshing, and her self esteem balanced itself out nicely so far. It's like in the blink of an eye, half of her stress was gone.

Life here was more than she had hoped for, and she was thankful every day for that. Last night she was trying to write a letter to her guardians to tell them of her happiness, but she fell asleep on her desk while writing it. She would most definitely finish that later. Maybe take some pictures of herself for them too. She wished she could email them, but they didn't really use their computer much and she feared they wouldn't get the email until way later.

She brushed her hair back, and put it up into a high pony tail. A few strands of her bangs fell out, as she smiled a few times in the mirror. She tried to hype herself up a little by making funny stances as if she was ready to rule the world. Mornings were always rough for her--she was the furthest thing from a morning person. It seemed like she had so much energy lately though. After feeling awake and ready, she retrieved her bow and quiver, with freshly new arrows in it, and took off.

With more swing in her step, and her long hair tied back and flying behind her, she gracefully made her way through the woods, to her normal spot with the perfect open area and a big rock in the middle. She sang in low tone peacefully as she walked.

"And when I see you... I really see you upside down."

Shinji made his way through the woods slowly but surely since he was up and ready to do what needed to be done. He wasn't the most quick paced guy out there unless he needed to be since he had to keep himself calm for a majority of the day. It was preferred that his thoughts stayed calm ad mellow so that they weren't flying all over the place giving him a headache. So far he had no problem with that with his current life style, though it would help if there were more laid back people on the island. There are a few but most people here like to have a thrill and others are just naturally upbeat and energetic. Go figure.

This was truly the most peaceful setting to do anything with. A quiet breeze to keep you company while the sun tried its best to shine through the little open spots between the leaves. It was beautiful, the way the light peered through the tall trees. Leaves fell all around making it seem as if they were dancing in the wind with there on spot light from above helping them with their performance. The shade made Shinji feel perfectly comfortable while he stood still for a moment just to take it all in. Though Shinji doesn't seem like it, he loves the outdoors and the peaceful whims that come with it. Unfortunately, though, the peace here wouldn't keep all of its glory once he started practicing.

Shinji said nothing, not even a thought to himself. He just continued to walk ahead into the woods, further and further. He went pretty far and walked around quite a bit trying to find a good place with enough space to be in but that proved to be harder than he first thought. Though, it wasn't long before he heard something. Something...light and familiar. Words? He could have sworn he heard words from someone around but it was more like singing to him. The voice he heard was too much in sync with a melody to have been someone's normal voice. Naturally Shinji had to follow it out of curiosity.

"I wonder who that could be." Shinji said as he seemed to get closer and the singing grew ever so slightly louder. "I don't suppose this person is out here for the same reason I am or else I probably would have seen them by now, or maybe even heard something louder? Either way, I wonder why they're..." He stopped in the middle of his sentence since it seems he had found who he was looking for. A girl, in the perfect clearing that Shinji had been looking for this whole time. "That was convenient but it sucks that its occupied. Hmm, maybe she'll share?" He wondered to himself. As he got closer and more of her became visible, the first thing he noticed was her bow. This was perfect.

He assumed that she was good with the bow by the way she held it and the way she stood. Most people that do certain things have a tell about them that give away their experience level. Obviously, Shinji was the most novice person. So he figured, why not go and learn a thing or two? "Excuse me..." Shinji started so that she wouldn't be startled by his sudden appearance. "I couldn't help but notice that you use a bow. But uhhh, well I'll get right to the point. Do you think you could give me a few pointers on how to use it? I mean you don't have to if you are busy, I'm basically just extremely inexperience with one and I'd like to be at least a little better." He knew he said a mouth full, even though he was trying to get to the point. But could you blame him? He was a completely novice and he is asking someone like her for help. Anyone would be a little nervous.

Soon after Lyra made her way to her little area, she readied herself for practice. She took a couple deep breaths and tried to relax all of herself. When she was ready, she aimed her bow at one of the trees.

It was a lovely morning. The sky was perfect colors and the breeze wasn't hard enough to affect her aim drastically. She was content although still a little tired. She paused however, when she heard a voice.

A guy walked up to her calmly, and straight up asked her if she was willing to teach him about archery. She chuckled a little bit and lowered her bow back down. She turned towards him and smiled. "Sure. It'd be no problem! But uh.. maybe you should introduce yourself. I'm Lyra."

She chuckled a little bit more and held out her hand to shake his. He came up right out of the blue, but she didn't mind at all. She loved archery the way her father figure did, and someone who wanted the basics she would surely help.

There isn't too many things to teach either. It would be mostly his posture, how he holds the bow, where to rest his fingers, and practice. Aim was the hardest part. That would be something you'd eventually get better at the more you came out to shoot. She could probably make him a bow and some arrows too, if he didn't have one and was serious. She almost wished she had some of those pin up targets on her. Maybe another time she could bring them, or just lend them to him if he desired.

Thinking about archery took pretty much anything off of Lyra's mind. It was the same effect as someone drinking some tea, or reading, playing a game--it was refreshing in it's own way. That's why she did it so often, and it's also why her aim was more precise.

"Here, come stand where I am, and then take my bow like this." Lyra stood in her ready stance to shoot. She had her left food forwards a little, and her chin over her shoulder. She stood there for a few moments so he could take it in, and then she relaxed, and waited for him to come give it a try.

OOC: Not a problem. I also want to apologize for my late response. I spent all of today with my girlfriend and got a little side tracked. Sorry!!

Shinji had finally found the perfect place to practice his skills in the woods. But this time someone was already occupying it. His first thought was to see who it was and ask if they were willing to share, maybe they could learn from each other. But little did he know that he would be getting a full lesson on archery from the person before him. She seemed nice enough, pretty normal, and by the way she carried herself, she had nothing to hide. That wasn't something Shinji saw often on the island since everyone here was in normal society at one point and most were ridiculed for their gifts. Fortunately, that wasn't the case with Shinji.

However, Shinji had forgotten the most important part of approaching anyone, at any time. Introduce yourself. Lyra gladly introduced herself and responded to his question without hesitation. Shinji couldn't help but feel a little embarrassed now that he hadn't introdt. That is like the first rule of doign anything in public with anyone. Its always better to know someone rather than just be complete strangers doing anything together. "Sorry about that..." Shinji said looking downward. "Shinji." he said as he grabbed her hand softly and shook it. His father had always taught him not to put pressure on the hand of a women when shaking her hand because it would only defy her graceful nature as a women. But then again, some women preferred it. Just go with the flow, right?

Lyra giggled a bit while shaking his hand. It was a little awkward for Shinji since he had no idea why she was giggling. maybe it was just his sudden appearance out of no where. Or maybe it was the fact that he hadn't introduced himself. Either way, he was confused but still smiled because he was excited to learn something new. Lyra was all too willing to help him too, which made it all the more better for him. She showed no hesitation which made Shinji feel like less of a bother to her when he asked.

It didn't take long for her to assume the position, the correct position, to hold the bow and aim. She stood straight up with her back sturdy against the wind, her left foot slid forward through the thin haired grass beneath her which seemed to her help foot along, and finally her chin pointed over her shoulder all high and mighty. Her stance showed the staggering amount of confidence she had with her skill and it was awe inspiring. She handed her bow to Shinji while telling him what to do after demonstrating how to use it properly. He held out his hands and held it for a moment getting the feel of it. The bow was sturdy and well made. No doubt by a skilled bowman. It felt nice in his hands.

Shinji did the same thing as Lyra, his instructor. He inched his left foot forward without a problem. Though he moved it ever so slowly to make sure he could get it to a good distance, however it was still too close to his right foot. No doubt Lyra would notice. Not to mention, his back was slightly slouched when he tried to straighten himself. His chin seemed to be position correctly but it seemed off due to his posture. Shinji felt that he was doing it the right way but in reality, anyone could tell his inexperience. He tightened his grip on the bow, as if he was preparing to release an arrow, but didn't pull on the string. "Uh, is this right?" Shinji said out right with a straight face. He felt that hopefully, he wasn't doing too much wrong.

"Nice to meet you Shinji." Lyra beamed, with a bright smile.

Lyra speculated as Shinji almost got the pose correct. It was a well done attempt by someone who hadn't much a clue about archery. After all, she knew how hard it was to learn since she often stumbled as only a child when she first began.

"Almost. Pretty good for a first go though! Just know that the more you can straighten your back, the easier it becomes to aim. Maybe part your feet just a little more too. I usually stretch a little bit before I come practice. Oh! Also thinking about something calming helps too."

She watched as he made minor adjustments, and she nodded. The more he practiced, the easier it would get for him. She had complete faith that he'd be able to make the perfect stance in no time--he seemed like a quick learner.

"Okay as for the next part. Take this arrow." She handed him one of the arrows from her quiver. "You have to learn how to nock in the arrow and pull it back. Otherwise the arrow will just flop. If you look at the arrow there's a tiny slit that you pull back into the string. After you pull it back as far as you can, rest the arrow on the grip that your fingers are wrapped around. Try not to touch your fingers."

She waited now, letting him adjust to the information. She was hoping she wasn't giving it to him too fast. "If you need me to repeat anything just let me know! I'm not sure if I'm talking quickly or not." Lyra half smiled, as she put her hand behind her head.

Shinji kept his eyesight forward as he continued to listen to her talk. She told him what he needed to fix, which wasn't bad for a beginner apparently, and he fixed it as much as he could. He stood up straighter then he had before so that he was about to aim a little better as instructed. His back did feel some restraint from his spine however since he had slouched for so long, even the slightest bit, because he hadn't participated in any type of sports like he used to when he first got to the island. It took a second to get used to but he got it down soon enough. His feet, as he felt it, were just right but to her he needed to spread them further. Obviously he had to correct it because she was the better and more experienced archer, so he didn't hesitate to follow the order. He felt as if he would fall into a deep split but knew he couldn't let that happen even though he felt himself slipping.

That was it for the stance now, however. That was almost the easiest part. but now came the actual aim and fire. She handed him a bow and explained to him what needed to be done without even taking a breath. "Wow, um. Wow" He thought to himself as he looked at her through his peripheral vision. She really knew what she was doing. She handed him an arrow so he could aim. This was going to be difficult. "Oh no, this isn't going to be good. Should I just keep going or...? Maybe it'll be fine. Maybe I wont lose a fresh pair of...um...tennis balls today while try to pierce a tree. That's right, happy thoughts." Shinji thought quickly now that he was even more nervous than ever. He could still feel his left foot slipping forward.

Now was the time, everything was happening now. Shinji placed the arrow head never his fingers on the bow and eyed the spot ever the strong went on the arrow. He pulled back with more strength than he intended with the arrow and almost let it go. "C'mon. Let the arrow go before you lose it. Just let it--" he was stopped mid sentence by the unthinkable. Just at that moment his foot slipped past the point of no return. His legs split like a banana and the arrow went flying. The arrow head slid across his index finger and he swore he felt it create fire. He let out a noise that would make a demon's face contort in a way that would send any manly man home crying to his mother. It was atrocious. Who knows where the arrow went, but more importantly, why is Shinji still in full split position? Is there a doctor out here?

Lyra tried to calm him down with some positive reinforcement as he slowly sweated. She could tell the stance was uncomfortable for him, and she understood how that felt. She looked down at his shoes and wondered if maybe she should have cleared a bunch of leaves maybe before they started...

Breaking her thoughts, Shinji pulled back on the bow with such force, and then he began to slip. In almost an instant, he tumbled down, and was on the ground, split like a banana peel. Lyra yelped, and knelt down to him. "That.. was.. unexpected. I'm so sorry. I.. May I help you get up?"

After looking him over she also realized he was bleeding. The arrow must have cut him when he slipped. "Oh! Shinji! Here, I'm gonna help you over to the rock okay? Just lean back and I'll fix your finger." Lyra said panicked.

She ignored whether he'd even answered if he wanted help or not, as she slung his arm over her shoulder. She very gently, raised him up. The pain was definitely going to hit him but he had to get up regardless. She wished she could help more, but his hips would naturally fix themselves and that was all that could be done for now. He would have to take a hot bath later.

"I know it hurts.. but just sit normal against this rock okay?" Swiftly, Lyra leaned him against it until he hit the floor. She quickly tore off one of her gloves, and threw it on top of the stone. She placed his fingertip in her palm, and she closed her eyes.

She focused her energy towards him. About a minute later, she unfolded his finger from her grip.. and the wound was gone. Lyra breathed out heavily and the stress of her worry was lightened. She looked up at him, with a 'you're okay now' smile. She knew it wasn't much, because his legs were going to be so sore. At least he wouldn't have to worry about his finger burning.

It was a good thing she didn't have to touch his palm--else she might have entered a vision. That would have been some kind of explanation...

"I really apologize. I wish I could.. help your legs. That's going to take time though.. You should take a hot bath later. For now we can just sit? I'll stay with you until you can move again okay?"

She hoped he wasn't too disappointed. Accidents like this happen all the time. Lyra definitely cut herself with many arrows before. She took her glove from the stone, and slid it back on tightly.

Shinji had no idea what he was to be doing right now. He couldn't even get up. He knew he could heal but this, this was going to be something he felt for days and days on end. This had to be embarrassing to him. Nothing worse could happen to him in his entire lifetime. His sat on the ground in the same position for the longest until Lyra came to help him. She was quick and calm with it which was reassuring but at the same time, it was hard for him to get his mind off of something so dreadful. She help him up slowly while he tried to walk. It was way better to have some support on your side at times like these but even still this was a heck of a first time with archery.

It seemed that no one heard him yelp in pain just now since nothing came to attack them and no one came to the site of the horrific noise. Luckily they made it to a rock in time for Shinji to get to sit down. She lowered him slowly while Shinji exhaled continuously with deep, steady breaths. A sigh of relief came from his mouth as he was finally relaxed on the ground. he was unable to move his legs and he was extremely sore for the time being. In fact, he wasn't even paying any attention to the wound on his finger. he never would have noticed it and his healing ability would have taking care of it before he could notice but Lyra took it upon her to take care of that issue. Taking his finger into her hand, she completely healed it in seconds.

"That's some power you got there. It sure is helpful." He said slowly as he tried to position himself. Leaning on the rock was great but he tried to slouch down more so that he wasn't putting too much weight to his lower body. "Yea sitting is fine. I don't think I could do much more if I wanted to right now. I've been through some training accidents, even falling off a roof, but this takes the cake for the worst ever. By the way though, I can heal myself you know. The help was much appreciated but you didn't need to." He knew there was no way that she would have known he could heal himself but he figured he might as well though that out there for extra conversation. Anything to take both of there minds off of what just happened.

Lyra felt absolutely horrible. She listened as he talked about this probably being the worst accident. She imagined splitting down to the ground like that was indeed one of the more painful things that could've happened. A feeling of guilt crept over her because she believed this was partially her fault.

"Oh. I'm sorry. I sort of panicked, I wanted to.. help what I could." Lyra stumbled out her words. She felt even worse, if that was possible. He didn't really need her help to heal but she just wanted to lessen whatever pain of his she could.

"So you can heal yourself too huh? What other things can you do, if you don't mind me asking?" She asked, trying to swing the conversation away from his injury.

She sat down on the ground next to him, and put her back to a different stone.

She wondered just then why he was interested in archery. He never really explained much, just told her he wanted to get better at it. Maybe later she'd ask him his reasoning, when he wasn't in this state. She hoped also that it wouldn't deter him from trying again. A lot of times situations like this make people re-think what they're doing and run.

If he did decide to give it another try, she would definitely prepare better for him. She'd clear out the leaves in a large area so the grass would hold him steadier than the messy forest floor. She was also thinking about carving him a bow with his name on it--but she wouldn't tell him about it. It would end up being a surprise. Maybe it would make it up to him for the aching soreness that would plague him for the next few days.
