Interesting choice, detective.

It was the choice Solano would've made.

There was something about Jacob that was hero quality, a type of kindness and reckless heroism that only came with people who owned fabled golden hearts. Thorn thought that was impressive in itself. It was the first time she met such a person. It was the first time she met a man that didn't secretly terrify her.

The illusion shattered to make way for the real world. The first thing Jacob was going to see when his vision returned back to normal was the blight fluorescent lights of the tattoo parlor and Thorn's smiling face only inches away from his, her fingers removing the mask from his face. She took the mask and placed it aside with the tubes.

"Welcome back to the real world, detective." She chuckled softly. "Tattoo's done. What do you think?"

When he looks down to his wrist, he'd see their vague vision and messy sketch of a tattoo earlier come to life — the black silhouette, the almost glowing lightning bolt coming from her heart. Despite the odd concept, she thought she did a good job of bringing it to life.

Solano had reflexively closed his eyes at the moment of impact. The bullets tore into his chest and shoulder, and adrenaline covered the fast searing pain in the moment. He hoped Gloria would get away safely, and that he would remain standing long enough to fight back or get away himself.

When Jacob opened his eyes, he was momentarily blinded by white light, light which quickly dimmed and showed the face of a pretty young woman right over him. She seemed to be almost kissing him, but then he remembered their situation. She was removing his mask and he was coming out of whatever stupor she had put him in for the tattoo procedure.

He blinked a few times, his mind re-syncing with the real world, before his free shot up to his chest and quickly undid his vest and shirt. He opened the first few buttons enough to slide aside and expose the left side of his chest, and the bullet hole scar that was there too. Seeing that there was no blood, Jacob sighed and settled back down.

"*whew* Okay... Things got a little too real there for a sec."

Despite the moment of panic, Jacob was smiling and in good spirits. The soreness of his wrist reminded him of his tattoo and he lifted his arm up to see it. His eyes brightened and his smiled widened at his new tattoo for Lenn.

"It's beautiful. It really is. Thanks, Thorn. And thanks for showing me your book too."

Thorn watched him frantically check for bullet wounds, laughing. She knew her illusions were vivid enough that he would think he was actually wounded. Still, she enjoyed the little accidental 'show' he put, whistling suggestively as his chest came into view.

She noticed he had a bullet wound like the protagonist in her novel. That was curious, but she wasn't going to pry. She had scars and test tubes; he had a bullet wound and bad decision tattoos. They were too loaded for this kind of setting. He was a customer. She was his tattoo artist. They should leave it at that.

"That part was nearing the climax, so it was supposed to intense, Solano." She placed her gun on the bench and began sealing up the bottles and storing them in her little box. She smiled at him. "But I'm glad you liked it. Way better than sitting around and staring at my tits all bored, right?"

Not to suggest that he'd stare at her tits, but most men, and some women, did. They were probably staring at the skyscrapers poking out of her tank top and not her flat chest, come to think of it. They were a lot more interesting than her tiny cup A set. The top of the skyscrapers glowed softly with city lights.

She closed up her sketchbook and began picking up the little bits and pieces that were cluttering up her workplace, like the tubes and the oxygen mask. "That's a hundred dollars. The fun trip is free." She winked.

Just as she mentioned them, and possible because she mentioned them, Jacob's eyes drifted down to Thorn's chest. There was no thought involved in the peek as far as he was aware. His lingering, curious gaze was more or less a reflex at the very mention of boobs. Perhaps it was a remnant of his years as a teenage boy, or maybe it was just something all men were built to do.

Either way, Jacob was treated to another example of Thorn's wondrous talents with inked body art. The skyline that peeked out over her tank top was creative and worked well with her choice of fashion, and her chest was a cute treat as well.

Now Jacob was no boob snob. He appreciated almost all breasts of all sizes. Big ones were good, of course, especially if they were the round and soft kind that Lenn possessed. But there was nothing wrong with a smaller set. They even had their positive qualities that bigger ones lacked. For Thorn, there was a pert cuteness that added a lot to her appearance, and helped add nuance to her overall shape. Now if butts were the question, Jacob would have a preference. He was an ass man.

By that point, he had probably been staring just long enough to be considered rude or awkward, and he tore his eyes away with a blush growing on his dark cheeks. He wanted to say something, but his stare spoke more than his words could about the matter.

Jacob slipped off the chair and loosened up his limbs before reaching for his wallet.

"If they stay free, I might come back just to see how your book is coming along. Maybe I'd have more notes for you too."

Not only did Jacob pay the tab, he gave a Thorn a hefty tip as well,a long with a smile and wink of his own.

"A little extra for you, Thorn. I hope I get to see you again. Maybe not for another tattoo, but just for fun."

Thorn had a grin on her face as Jacob took a good look of her chest. She felt really smug. She'd been feeling kinda bad about her looks lately because her black roots were starting to show, but having a hot guy check out your boobs like you're a pin-up in a titty magazine helped.

"Subtle, detective," she said with no hints of offense in her voice. She listened to what Jacob said, eyebrows darting up. That, coupled with the long stare at the boobs... was mister 'tattoo of my girlfriend' flirting with her?

She was strangely okay with that.

"I'll be here if you need me, babe, for story notes or otherwise." She winked. "Seriously, though. Some days we're just slow. Company would be real nice."

She held the money in her hand and — whoa, this was also a huge tip. Sweet. She should actually do something with this other than junk food and gummy bears. Maybe she could buy a nice dress. "Aw, sweetie, you didn't have to. Thank you."

And like with Sid, she reached up to give him a kiss on the cheek.

"Well, I think that's it. It's been a real pleasure. If you ever get a hankering for a new one... or you get some friends that are looking for a nice tramp stamp, you know where my store is."
