Jae made the long trek back to the dorms from the ocean. Dressed in clean clothes, a towel draped over his hair and his swimming bag with his wet clothes thrown over his shoulder. Though thankful school and town were only a step away, he still had to walk through town to the ocean, then back. Rinse and repeat every other night. His new dorm mates would ask where he goes, and Jae would brush it off with the excuse of drama club or to study. They readily believed in studying lie. The teen looked up at the lights of the dorm building and felt a profound sense of longing. Not for the dorms, but for his aunt's small home on the ocean front. With it, came the realization that he didn't want to go back to his dorm room.

He entered the student lounge, and searched through his phone contacts. Jae hoped that maybe someone wouldn't mind if he could come over and visit, and pretend that he wasn't avoiding his own room. The teen paused over Eric's number. Eric who flirted and looked at Jae like someone to be admired. Though Jae had other guy friends, none of them made him blush like Eric did. Sometimes Jae caught himself thinking what it would be like wrapped in the Eric's arms. Like right now, and Jae's fingers moved almost of their own accord. He sent a short text asking if Eric was free and if he could join him in his dorm. Then, before he could think too much on that, Jae headed upstairs.

Eric's response came as Jae got to his floor. Jae didn't run to the door, but he did rush. There, Jae sent a second text to say he was outside the door and waited. When Eric finally appeared warmth spread through Jae. "Hey," He said and smiled. Then remembered he probably looked strange in his after swimming clothes and a damp towel. "Ah, I just finished a swim in the ocean." Jae explained, a little sheepish. He smelled of salt and sand, and regretted the fact he didn't think to shower off before coming over. "Can I still come in?"

Eric had been a good boyfriend. He didn't take this anywhere with Jae, even if he had kept flirting. Even if he had kept making eyes at him. He had been good. But he knew Jae was into him. And, fuck if he wasn't into Jae. Eric couldn't stop thinking about him, even when he was with his girlfriend Jasmine. He was enchanting.

The two had become good friends regardless of romantic tension, though. Eric knew about Jae's change in living situation, and he could sort of tell Jae was trying to avoid something. He could relate. His door was always open to Jae, figuratively speaking.

He opened the door to a sandy- and salty-smelling Jae. He seemed kind of apologetic about it. Eric just shrugged it off. "Sure dude. I don't mind."

Once the door was closed behind them, Eric had to ask. "So, what's up? Aside from the ocean swimming, I mean"

Jae slipped inside, "Ah, the usual I guess. Studying for school, attending drama club. We were given new scripts last week and the story is thrilling-ah, I mean, it looks like it will be interesting to act out." A blush dusted his cheeks, as Jae often got carried away when talking of drama club. Sometimes he gushed about a story's theme or mood, or mused over how a character would react.

"Maybe I should join one of the sports teams." He finished with a small laugh, "My dorm mates keep calling me a nerd." Jae rolled his eyes, conveying exactly how he felt about that endearment. Basketball could be an option for him, as he was more than a decent shot. "What about you? I hope I'm not interrupting any studying or school work."

Jae knew his answer was likely not the one Eric had asked for, but it was the easiest one to give.

Eric sat down on the edge of his bed. There weren't a lot of other places to sit down around here.

He noticed Jae holding back his excitement about the script, the warmth filling his cheeks. Eric needed that warmth. Like he was coming in from the cold and thawing himself out.

Jae turned the question back on him, and he shrugged. "I just got done with homework. I was pretty bored and figuring out what I was gonna do about it when you text messaged me." Nothing too interesting to talk about there, so he changed the subject. "But I don't think you're a nerd, Jae. Tell me about this script of yours. "

After a moment's hesitation, Jae sat down beside Eric on the bed. He was glad he hadn't interrupted any important school work, and pleased he seemed to have caught Eric at the right time. Eric asked about the script and Jae supposed it would be okay to gush a little because he was asked. "It's called Digging Up the Boys, and it's about three men who are trapped in a mine, and their loved ones who are trying to save them up above.

"It's a drama and there are lots of emotional scenes. The story is about dealing with sudden trauma and holding onto hope in an uncertain time. And there's this twist-" He cut himself off before he could reveal it, "It's really interesting and I can't wait to perform it.

"You should, ah, come see the club perform it." He added, a slight blush coating his cheeks as he really meant Eric should go see him perform.

Eric nodded, thinking about it for a second. The way Jae put it, it sounded almost like this story covered some of the things he and his friends had been struggling with. The trauma of suddenly being uprooted from his old home, separated from his old family and most of his friends for what could possibly be forever. "It sounds like a good one," he said. It gave him a lot of feelings, just thinking about it. And Eric couldn't help feeling a little bit like feelings were gay.

To avoid expressing any of that, he made a joke. "I'll plan on digging some boys later, then." he smirked at him. But really, he was already digging this boy in particular.

"It really is," Jae said, nodding enthusiastically. He felt confident on the stage, in the role of someone else. Jae chuckled at Eric's joke. "I'll text you the performance dates." And make sure Eric would get a seat somewhere up front.

Jae tucked loose strands of hair behind his ear and studied Eric for a moment. Eric was so handsome, and close. And they were on his bed. "Um, and maybe I can go see one of your games." Jae could cheer for Eric and could watch him without it being weird. Okay, thinking that kinda made it weird. Jae couldn't help it, Eric was like a magnet pulling him in. Jae shifted closer without realizing it.

Eric smiled at that. "That would be great," he said. He kind of missed having people coming out and cheering for him. Especially since he wasn't really the star quarterback of a small american town anymore.

"So it sounds like we have plans for later in the week," he said. He wrapped an arm around Jae's shoulder when he scooted in closer. "But what do you want to do right now?"

Eric's arm wrapped around his shoulder and Jae's face flushed red. It was one thing to imagine Eric's arms around him, and another for it to actually happen. Jae was tense until he made himself relax. "N-now?" He stammered, mind blanking upon him. His mind buzzed with thoughts and ideas.

"Ah," Jae almost cuddled closer. "We could, ah," Do what? Jae could only really think of one thing and that was how much he wanted to kiss Eric.

Jae was getting real nervous. Either he was thinking what Eric was hoping, or he needed to back off. There was still plausible deniability if Jae didn't really feel that way about him. He could have been putting his arm around Jae in a normal and straight way, rather than a gay way.

"I dunno," he chuckled. "That's why I asked."

For all the confidence he exuded, he was scared of making the first move. Even though his brain knew it wasn't social suicide to be outed as gay here, his heart hadn't caught up with the program yet.
