Danica hugged her knee to her chest and let her other leg dangle in the water. She twirled her toes in the lake, making little ripples. She was sitting on the dock, staring out at the water and at Dark Crystal Academy.

She had iPod headphones in her ears and wore pink sweatpants rolled up to her knees. She shivered. It was getting colder, turning into winter. She whispered along to the music playing on her iPod.

It seemed dark all of a sudden. 6:00, barely time for dinner, and it was almost pitch black. She sighed, thrust a little dot of light in the air. She watched as her pant leg slowly slipped out of it's position on her leg and dripped on the water, but made no move to pull it back up.

The pink became darker and darker until it was in the water with her foot and too dark to see.

Danica sighed. She needed someone to talk to. Like, a friend. Like Gabriella...

Chadra walked down to the docks. She saw a girl sitting on one of them. She looked kind of lonely. "Hey, mind if I sit down?" she asked the girl.

Danica swirled her foot around in the water faster and faster, pulling out at the last second to see a whirlpool before it faded. By now, her whole pantleg was soaking wet.

She looked up to see a girl coming toward her. She shook her head in response. "Go ahead."

Danica stuck her foot back in the water. Even though the water was freezing, her foot had gotten used to it and it was colder on the dock.

"I'm Danica," she said, smiling at the girl and pulling her headphones out of her ears. The girl was small, most likely younger than Danica, with long dark hair. Danica fingered her own blue hair, wrinkling her nose. It was definately nasty- needed to be washed.

As soon as she got back, she was taking a long hot shower and washing all the dye out of her hair. She was going to be blonde for awhile...

Chadra dropped down next to her. "I'm Chadra." She said as she watched the girl swirl the water with her foot. It was rather peaceful, just sitting on the dock, not really doing anything.

Danica shivered, holding her sleeves over her hands with the very tips of her fingers. "Pretty name," she said to Chadra, rolling up her other pant leg and sticking her foot in the water. The freezing water hurt at first, but then it numbed the foot and felt warm.

She reached up, brushed her hair the best she could into a messy blue ponytail. Her hands cringed, dry in the cold air when they left her warm coat sleeves. As soon as her ponytail was secured loosely, she shoved her hands in her pockets, making a fist.

"Are you... Greek?" Danica guessed. She had no idea whether Chadra was Greek, Celtic, or Chinese for that matter, but Chadra was an interesting name...

"I...have no idea..." Chadra thought for a minute, trying to remember if she had ever heard what ethnicity she was. What about you?"

((Sorry, I can't think of another word besides heritage, and and that doesn't sound right.))

((haha, ish kewl.))

Dani smiled. Hmm, was she adopted or something? Did she have a weird past? Whatevers...

"Mexican!" she exclaimed, eyes lighting up. "Espanol es fantastico!" She grinned. "I love Spanish... it's amaaazing."

She cocked her head- a thought striking her. "How old are you?"

Chadra laughed. She had been to Mexico once before, so she knew a little bit of Spanish. "I'm twelve. How old are you?" The girl looked to be a few years older than herself...

Danica pulled some chapstick out of the pocket and swiped it across her lips, which were chapped from the cold air.

"14," she said, nodding. "Are you new here?"

Chadra nodded with a smile. "Fairly. Are you?" She leaned back a little and stared at the water.
