Caissa had wanted to take her sweet time getting ready for this lunch date. But she'd gotten summoned before she could leave and that had taken a half hour out of her free time. Fucking wizards. Still, she'd been able to rush to her dorm and pick out a new outfit, wash her hair, shave her legs, and brush her teeth.

Now it was just time to wait on Marcus to call her and come pick her up. She figured he only wanted to take her to lunch to get info on how to fix his magic pen. But she wondered how far she could take this without getting too involved. It'd be a fun challenge, regardless.

Marcus was actually kinda nervous. He had acted calm, but now actually realising he asked a girl out, even for just help on a project, it freaked him out. What was the distinction between how he should act around her?

An hour later, he backed away from his computer. No one had done a study on it, and WikiHow was no help at all. Zero stars. Taking a moment, he compiled his thoughts. Caissa had said she could help him fix an issue with his project, and he had to buy her lunch first. That was it. She probably didn't think this was a date, and as long as he kept calm, he would at least make a cool friend.

Breathing in and out, he pulled out his phone, and though he spent a bit of time writing the message, he eventually sent it off. "Meet you outside the library in ten minutes. We can start there."

Caissa knew her way around the school well enough that she could make it to the meeting spot in half the allotted time. But she purposefully waited until it had been eleven minutes before she rounded the corner to meet Marcus. Jogging up to him, she flashed a goofy grin and gave a wave. "Sorry I'm late. Roommate was hogging the shower," she said casually, stopping to catch her breath. A lie, but not an important one. Stepping closer, she hooked one of her arms around his and held it to her chest, grinning at him. He was shorter than her, but not by too much. The blue hair was definitely different, but not bad or anything.

"So, ready to go handsome? I skipped breakfast today so I'm famished."

Marcus wasn't even looking at the time, so he had no way to know if Caissa actually was late. "Uh, yeah, it's okay. I just got here myself." It was a lie, it took him less than five minutes to get there, and he spent the entire time thinking about what to say.

He settled in a simple smile and greeting, but he forgot everything when she leant into his arm.

His face went red again, and he looked away to clear his throat. "Ready to go. And you better be hungry, the place serves large meals." Marcus smiled up at her, though he felt a bit unsure. Did she think this was a date?

"I can eat a ton, Marcus. I hope you can keep up." She grinned and led him away, keeping his arm hugged to her as much as possible.

The restaurant was decently nice; the kind of place Caissa would go on a date for sure. She wondered if Marcus thought this was a date or not. Taking her seat across the table from Marcus, she leaned forward smirking playfully.

"So what do you do for fun, Marcus?"

Looking around, maybe he shouldn't have chosen such a good restaurant? He had the money to pay for it, sure, but was it showing off? Caissa did seem to like the place too.

Speaking of Caissa, maybe she was just being friendly? She did act like this in the community centre, though the physical contact seemed to be something that had begun when they met up just before. "Well, for fun, I read books. I'm teaching myself magic. both sideshow and actual. Honestly, it's going better than my College classes."

That's it, Marcus, Treat it as just an outing with friends. "I've got an idea, Caissa, put out your hand. I'm going to try to read your mind" He stretched out his palm to receive her hand, a small smile on his face.

When she did, he let them hold hands for a bit as he spoke. "Imagine a number, any number. What I want you to do is twofold. add it and the number above together, remember that number, then using the original number, minus the number above. Multiply the two numbers you get, and when you tell me the result, I'll tell you the original number." Maths and Magic, two of his interests.

Oh boy he was one of those guys who liked doing magic tricks. She rolled her eyes and held out her hand for him. He wanted to try and read her mind? If it was actual magic mind reading he'd find that impossible. But it'd be cute to see him try.

So she thought of her number, smirking. One million, three hundred fifty-seven thousand, nine hundred and two. Point four six eight. He didn't say it had to be an integer. She did the math he suggested in her head. This was the kind of thing she could do totally trashed drunk. When she was done, she licked her lips almost predatorially and told him the resulting number. She couldn't help but grin, baring her teeth at him as the numbers rolled off her tongue fluidly.

"Three trillion, six hundred eighty-seven billion, seven hundred ninety-eight million, two hundred eighty-seven thousand, five hundred ninety point seven."

Marcus blinked at her response. She gave him a value in the trillions? Not something he did in his head. "Well, I did say any number. Okay, the trick is ruined, but now I'm interested in what that actually is."

Thinking, he left his hand there in here, and after a bit of muttering and tapping, he finally reached the answer. "You weren't making this easy for me. The number is over 1.8 quadrillion."

Caissa's grin dropped just a bit and she quirked an eyebrow. "Not even close, handsome. I think we might have had some miscommunication. Oh well."

Her grin widened again and she turned her hand to trace nonsense patterns in the palm of his hand. "So you do math and magic tricks. What kind of abilities do you have?"

He gulped as she started to trace in his palm. "Well, we'll have to compare our maths later. See which of us went wrong."

The actions tickled, and his fingers twitched. His eyes didn't leave her finger. Marcus was unsure again what to think of this outing. it was beginning to look like a date in one of his books. At least in that one, the girl was deeply in love with the boy. But that was just fiction.

"Well, uh, I can take things from books. a new one is that I can turn into animals. I assume your Goetic Demon heritage makes you an expert on magic?" He nodded, calling upon his knowledge of Goetic demons from the books he read.
