Havoc didn't laugh. Beyond the fact that he didn't find the situation funny, he didn't find any situation funny. Havoc didn't laugh--he just wasn't that kind of person.
"If the effects were minuscule, then it would be obvious that I was being drugged, not that I was taking drugs." Wouldn't it? That was how Havoc thought of it, but he was also aware that not everyone thought the way he did.
"I assume there is some greater purpose in you having this conversation with me," Havoc said. He didn't really believe he'd been drugged--there were too many variables and he was having a hard time genuinely believing it, even if it was a magical island--but he still couldn't follow Cabel's own logic.
There had to be a reason, didn't there?

"Yes," Cabel said. "There is a purpose to all of this."
He finished the last bite of his salad, killing one of the rice bunnies and the lettuce all at once and swallowed.
He packed up his bento and took another swig of his coffee. it was almost empty.
"I need information that would be remarkably easy for someone on the student council to give me," Cabel said. "Blackmail is always an option, so is asking for it, but so is having hypothetical conversations to figure out what my options are."
He looked at him and said, "How do you feel personally about getting high?"

Havoc couldn't help but feel a bit relieved that there was an actual purpose behind it. It wasn't just a completely useless waste of time where he was sort of being blackmailed--there was a purpose.
"And that information would be?" Havoc asked. He wasn't going to commit to anything until he knew what it was. He knew the importance of information security, and he wasn't going to compromise it.
Havoc's own food remained cold and partially eaten, forgotten in the conversation. Havoc wasn't the type to eat while talking, and he wasn't terribly bothered by the idea of eating cold food. Really, as long as it hadn't gone stale it would be just fine.
"I find the idea unappealing."
He had no interest in losing control of himself. He didn't like the idea of being drunk, and he didn't like the idea of being high either. While he did drink occasionally, it was never to excess, and Havoc could firmly say that he'd never actually been drunk before.
Not that many people thought that was a good thing.

"Information on who might be interesting," Cabel said. "I like to meet interesting people. I used to meet a lot of interesting people, but that was before I got so busy, and now getting out and just randomly sitting down at tables and talking to strangers is a pain in the ass."
He grinned as if to illustrate his point.
The fact that Havok found the idea of getting high unappealing was actually appealing to Cabel.
Good.
He stored this away for letter.
"if you're student council, I'd like you to introduce me to people," Cabel said. "I'd like to have these hypothetical conversations with other people. That's an easy thing to do if someone has to meet people for school events all the time."

Oh boy was Cabel barking up the wrong tree. Really, the person he wanted was so clearly Emily, only Havoc had at least the self awareness to realize that sending him after Emily--assuming he hadn't already made a deal with her--was a bad idea.
"No," Havoc said simply. Not no because or no but. Just no. The answer was no.
"I have no interest in touring you around, and I have no interest in making introductions. If you'd like to meet interesting people, you can do so by giving student tours. Then you'd meet a large number of people while doing something useful with his time."
Cabel had come to the exact wrong person, and Havoc showed absolutely zero emotion as he delivered his so no. He was blank an emotionless, although his eyes slitted open ever so slightly as he stared down at Cabel.

Cabel laughed again. He finished his last sip of coffee. So that was that, a simple no?
It's about that he was learning to expect from Havoc after their brief conversation. Truth be told, Cabel anticipated that Havoc probably wouldn't do as well as Emily would with the student council. So many people made the mistake of thinking that cold analytics were the way to go, but emotional intelligence comprised so much more. But he wouldn't have known this unless he tried--nothing ventured, nothing gained.
When his laughter subsided he said, "Jeeze dude, I didn't want you to tour me around. I was just hoping you'd send some people my way. I'm not a lap dog."
He rubbed his face. Giving tours on campus wasn't a horrible idea, but it totally ignored the i don't have time part that Cabel had emphasized earlier.
"Anyway man, I wish you the best of luck with the election," Cabel said, pulling himself up from the chair and giving him a wide grin. "I enjoyed our chat today."
As he was walking away, Cabel stopped, turned around and said, "I wouldn't trust the tap water here."
He grinned, stuck his free hand in his pocket, and left humming.

Havoc continued to... sort of get it. He got at least the general idea of what had happened--Cabel had tried to blackmail him--but the actual details sort of... escaped him.
Well, at least he got the idea about the tap water. He didn't think Cabel actually wanted him to win, although he did consider warning Emily about him.
Actually, on second thought, he was definitely going to warn her about him. And he was going to have the water tested, just in case.
Maybe he'd start drinking bottled water while he was at it, just to be safe.
