I Told You I'd Be Back

Vincenzo didn’t go back on his promises!

He never forgot. He never forgave. Ha, that was actually misleading – saying he would forgive something he wasn’t even mad about in the first place. No, he wasn’t mad at William for goring him and murdering him in an alley. In fact, he was ecstatic about it. He’d only seen the man in passing at the library, and he never took an interest in him past asking where certain books were. Finding out he was a cannibal zombie fuck was a pleasant surprise.

And yes, his name was William. He always did his research, like a proper stalker. He’d sent him a cute little Valentine’s Day gift, though he didn’t bother doing anything during that long stretch of time. He had different arrangements, other things to worry about. But now that his schedule had free time again, he was more than excited to visit him at work for the first time.

He even brought him a gift. It was a box, and inside were little chopped up human parts, a few fingers here, a few eyeballs there. They were all cleanly wrapped in ziplocks. Didn’t even smell too bad to be noticed.

He walked up to William, casual as ever, and gave him a lovely smile. “Hi! It’s good to see you again. I did give a notice a few months back,” he said, casual as ever despite the horrifying things that happened between them. He presented the gift. “It’s for you. Water under the bridge?”

The days that the library was quiet seemed like a godsend to the quiet librarian who kept things in order. Not too many people to organize and keep together, fewer books to put back in place and catalog, less to pull him away from his archives. Absolutely wonderful.

Now, where did this particular novel go? He needed to go into the system, the number was worn and probably had been peeled off some time or another. It had been sitting on the return cart, and he could've sworn he'd never seen this particular one before. William had wandered to the back end of the library, away from the main area, in hopes of finding this particular book's home.

Focused as he was, he never noticed someone approaching him until they spoke up. William flinched, turning quickly on his heels and looking just a tad frazzled when... Oh.

Oh no.

William froze like a deer in headlights, his mouth pressed into a thin line and his eyes wide. He... He was supposed to be dead. He'd accidentally killed him months ago. But he was right here, chipper as ever. He was holding a box out to him.

"I-I..." He managed to stammer, but his muscles still seemed locked in place. "You... You're not..."

Dead. He wasn't dead and he was supposed to be and was he a ghost? Had he come back to haunt him? He made no move to take the gift he'd been presented with.

Vincenzo's pretty smile snapped into a grin. He put his present on the counter as he listened, filled with fizzy, bubbly excitement.

"Dead?" He laughed. Oh, how he loved plot twists! People always reacted to them in the best ways. Vincenzo couldn't die, and he'd come back again and again dragging his killers down with him because... well, it was fun. Games were more fun when the scoreboards were even. "You'd think that, wouldn't you?"

His claw snapped forward like a striking viper, wrapping its razor sharp fingers around William's neck. With a quick snip, he could've severed William's head clean off his body, but his touch turned soft, almost affectionate. He caressed William's jaw like a lover and looked at him with gentle, half-lidded eyes.

"Sweetheart, it'd take more than a few scratches to off me. They say good people die young, so... that means I'm liable to live forever!" He moved away to hang onto William from the side, hooking their arms together and practically bouncing on his feet. He pulled out a switchblade from his jacket, spinning it once in his hand before pointing it at William. "Eternity's a long time. How about we use that time to get acquainted, hm? Because, believe me, darling, I don't forget. I'm gonna come back, over and over and over, and I'm going to make your life hell every time."

@Poppy And of course I proceed to forget to watch this thread and don't get notifications wtf is wrong with me.

William practically shrunk back when the young man said the word. Dead. Final. He was supposed to be a pile of goo in some back alley, or a corpse in a morgue with a toe tag that said 'John Doe' or something. Not standing in front of him, package outstretched. He swallowed, trying to keep the bile down in his throat.

Then there was a snap, like a whip, and long scythes wrapped like a razor wire noose around his neck. The librarian squeaked, his throat tightening before he could let out a horrified screech. He practically impaled his own neck on the knife-like appendages when a few of the scythes moved to caress along his cheek, down to his jaw.

He hadn't even realized it, but a thin trickle of blood had begun to drip from his nose.

Even when the fingers left his neck, there was no real relief. The boy was by his side in a moment, his arm wrapped around him as if they were old friends. William was frozen, even the air was too heavy to breathe. He just... couldn't move. He didn't even shrink away, too petrified to do so, when the knife was pointed at him.

"B-but..." He stammered, forcing himself to clench his own teeth together to stop the rattling. "But w-why?" Maybe because he'd literally ripped him to pieces, that was why. "I... I didn't--it w-was a mistake."

Vincenzo tapped the blood dripping down his nose with his human finger and licked it, making eye contact with William. He wondered what was that — gonna turn feral, like an animal backed in a corner? Fantastic. A library monster chase seemed like the sort of thing he was up for today.

He was stammering. It was adorable. Vincenzo wanted him to fear him, become such a horrifying staple in his life that he'd see him when his eyes were closed. Could he do that? Could they be intimate like that?

"Mistake..." he repeated the word, turning it over in his mouth. Mistake. He laughed. Mistake, he said, because that was what it was, yes? He didn't have any control of his faculties. It was a mistake. When Vincenzo played the insanity card, he got a month in juvie. He tilted his head, grinning, malicious. "That's cute. I mean, I can't control my own actions either, what with the monster in my head. I guess you've never had an even playing field where you rip someone up and they rip you back up, huh?"

He backed off a little, spun the switchblade in his hand, and in a moment of pure impulse, stabbed William repeatedly in the stomach. He was so giddy! He couldn't help it. He bounced away from him and lit some matches, throwing them on a pile of books on the counter and watching them light up. "God, William, I can't believe you're letting the library burn just like this. That's so irresponsible of you. Honest, really, honest to god — if I was part of the school board? I'd fire you in a heartbeat."
