I really just don't want to be here.

The young boy sat in one of the abandoned hallways of the third floor, his knees pulled up to his chest, and his arms wrapped around his legs with his head against his knees. His light brown tail moved back and forth ever so slightly upon the floor, even though it was wrapped around himself. His cat-like ears were pressed down against his head, and his light brown hair covered his face that held quite a sad look on it.

Sabriel just didn't want to be at this school. Even if Nicolas was here, it was just so different here, and it was just so big... he wasn't used to such big places. And besides, it looked to him like some of the people here were scary... he had already met one of these scary people, and well, it had scared him, obviously.

The thirteen-year-old whimpered, a few tears falling from his dark golden eyes. He was afraid and really sad right now, due to his mood swings. Once again, he hadn't taken his medication to prevent such sudden changes in his personality. Actually, the only time he took those pills was when Nicolas forced them down his throat. And, since his older brother hadn't done that today, Sabriel would continue to be rather moody all day.

He just sat there, deciding that he would go and find Nicolas when he wasn't as upset. However, it would probably be a while before his mood changed to something else, so he was going to be up on the third floor for what would seem to be a very long time.

"...And a song, someone sings, once upon a December..." Mery hummed. Instead of letting her tiny dog lead her, she was holding him and half dancing to the music running through her head. Suddenly she sensed that someone was there. "Hello?" She said in a normal voice, since she was mostly over mono, though she still got tired easily.

His ears perked up when he heard someone coming. Oh, no. No, no, no! He wanted to be alone! He quickly looked up and wiped the tears away from his eyes and off of his face, only able to hope that the red color to his face wouldn't be noticed. Upon seeing the young woman coming, dancing and humming, holding a dog, he couldn't help but blink from confusion.

"Hello?"

Odd. Could she not see him? Well, that was good, Sabriel supposed. He rested his head back on his knees, sniffing. He wasn't in the mood to talk. He was never in the mood to talk when he was upset like this. The thirteen-year-old shook his head, knowing that it was probably rude, but oh, well.

Mery sighed. "Is anyone here?" She asked, setting Pooka down, but still holding his leash. She hated it when people didn't reply, because that was the only way she knew whether or not they were there. Unless, of course, Pooka barked. And Pooka did bark. It wasn't his usualy protectiveness bark, but more of a friendly bark.

She really couldn't see him, could she? Sabriel swallowed, unsure if he should take advantage of that or not. He decided to do that, however mean it may be, and didn't say anything. When her dog barked, though, he sighed inwardly, guessing that she would know he was there now. He looked up again, though his ears were no longer sticking up, and were instead drooping. "... Hi..." he greeted, his voice very quiet, and cracking once so that it was easy to tell he had been crying a little bit. He shook his head and sniffed again, not realizing that this was his brothers girlfriend.

Mery smiled. Following his voice, she sat down next to him. "Hi. Um...are you okay?" She asked. He sounded anxious, or scared or something. She didn't want to pry, but if he was hurt or something like that...She held Pooka on her lap.

The boy swallowed nervously when she sat down next to him, and scooted over a little bit so he wasn't so close to her. When asked if he was ok, he was completely silent, thinking about that. Was he ok? Definitely not — well, mentally at least. His mental state was a complete wreck. He would always deny that, though, no matter what happened. He didn't think that his mood swings were anything to worry about, and the fact that he didn't like this place was really nothing to worry about, either. And, physically, he supposed he was fine, though he was sure she was only asking about if he was alright emotionally.

"Y-Yeah... I-I'm fine..." Sabriel said quietly. "It's nothing to worry about." He was a horrible liar, just like his brother. Oh, well.

Mery laughed kindly. "You're not a very good liar, but obviously, you don't want to talk about it, so I won't ask" She told him. She waited in silence for a few moments. "I'm Mery."

Mery was rather confused now. How in the world did this boy know who she was? She tried to remember if she'd talked to him before, after all, she was good at remembering voices, but nothing came to mind. "Yes, that's me." She said, hoping he would explain how he knew her. She would feel really bad if she had met him before, which, sadly, was probably the case, considering how Pooka was acting.
