Caitlin was far too distracted lately. Her grades weren’t slipping, that could never happen. All week she had turned in her papers and assignments, took her quizzes, attended classes, and took her notes just as she always had but her heart and mind just weren’t fully in it right now. For someone passionate about perfection in herself, she was slacking severely.

This was Lochlann’s fault, of course. She was spending her spare time staring at the computer screen until her eyes hurt and checking out every text she could get her hands on in the library that had to do with Water Horses and, in general, the Fae. She even spent her spare time at work perusing the isles for helpful reading and had consumed copious amounts of coffee, all in pursuit of a way to understand him more, a way to be able to be close with him and still, somehow, protect herself from what he was.

The coffee shop ought to thank her for their entire income this week.

Even now, the young woman was carrying a hot coffee in her grasp. She was put together as always, dressed in black leggings, gray suede boots that rode up over her knees, and a long blouse. Her hair was pulled into a low ponytail that trailed down to the very tip of her tailbone. Her porcelain skin was dressed with light make up but the make-up couldn’t mask the dark sleep circles forming under her eyes. She carried a bag over her shoulder stuffed to brimming with books and she carried several more in her arms.

She was on her way to the library…again. As she approached from across the campus, her eyes strayed upward to it’s rooftop, unfocused, lost in though.

Why was Allan Lochman at the school? He wasn't a student, wasn't overly intent on enrolling, so it was out of curiosity. He had looked at the college courses and was now looking over the school. No one exlected a ex-mercenar to be intelligent, or have a desire to learn.

As he turned a corner he saw a young woman, probably around his age, staring up at the cieling as she walked. He chuckled, "yer gonna run into someone," Allan's accent was unique, having been raised by a German vampire with mercenaries of many national origins around him. I was overall pleasant, but unique.

Cat startled out of her daze, physically jumping in surprise and taking a step back. Luckily, she managed not to run into him, a wall, or trip over her own feet...all likely scenarios. Brown eyes flicked around the campus, then back to the roof for half a second, then back down to him.

"I'm sorry," she replied slowly. "I guess I should be paying better attention. I may as well have been sleep walking. Thanks for waking me up." She offered a sheepish grin, shifting the weight of the books in her arms and sloshing her coffee over her hand. She sighed.

He gave her a friendly grin, "eh, dont worry about it, we all get like that every now and again." He approached her, "I'm Allan Lochman," he said, introducing himself. As always he was unaware of the attraction aura he gave off.

"Just arrived on the island," he said smiling calmly, "thought I'd come down to the school, see what it offers."

((OOC: check for Allan in my sig if you want info on the aura))

"Still," she replied, shaking her head, her smile remaining but the sheepishness falling away. "I should be paying better attention. Good thing I don't drive." As he approached, Cat was overwhelmed by his height, she herself being barely average for a human woman. Something about him calmed her though, like a gentle giant.

"Nice to meet you, Allan. I'm Caitlin," she started to shift her books around and sloshed her coffee again. "I'd shake your hand but clearly I'm incapable of keeping my coffee in my cup today and I don't want to make you a casualty." She lifted her hand and licked away the coffee only to slosh it again. She sighed in resignation. "Well welcome to the island," she replied brightly. "I'm not sure there is anything this school doesn't offer."

ooc - oh, this was they guy who should have been a giraffe. ;)

"The pleasure is mine Caitlin," he said with a smile, "nice to get a welcome from a prettty girl." He chuckled, "visited the island before, finally decided to move here full time."

Tilting his head he approached her, "here let me help." He pulled a napkin from his pocket and wiped the coffee off her hand, "don't want you gettin burned." He smiled, "want me to get those for you?" he asked nodding at the books she held.

Cat blushed, ducking her head down slightly. She'd been getting complimented a lot lately and she wasn't very used to it. She hadn't figured out a graceful way to say thank you yet, other then to say 'thank you,' which felt clunky.

"Well, is there something you are particularly good at? Or that you think you'd love to do? It always helps to narrow down what you want before going in and enrolling. I ought to know, I'm undecided and sort of just flailing around in my education right now." She watched him wipe he hand with the napkin, the calm feeling spreading through her the longer she stood her. Maybe she just needed someone else to speak to for a few minutes so she could breath. "Thank you. No, I don't want to take up your time schlepping my books around behind me." Her smile was genuine. It felt like this was the first time she'd smiled all week.

He thought about her questions, "something to do with military, perhaps military history," being an ex-mercenary he was a trained fighter, but he had always had an interest in the history of the soldier. "And I do love to cook," he said with a chuckle, "so culinary arts is an option."

Allan smiled back at her, "it'd be no problem, but I understand." He tilted his head, "you have a nice smile," he put the now used napkin in his pocket. "You said you're flailing about?" he asked, "I know the feeling. Uncertainty and indecisiveness can be frustrating."

"Well that's simple enough, I'm sure they have something for you here regarding history, probably military history. Culinary classes sound fun. You should try to get in with a guidance councilor, I'm sure they'd get you started in the right direction." Not that it had helped her, but her problem was her own doing. She just didn't have any idea where she wanted to end up.

"Ok, yeah. Sure. Thank you," she leaned forward to hand him part of her heavy load. She was carrying half a dozen books in her arms and more in her bag. "At least now, maybe, I can managed to finish my coffee." You have a nice smile. The compliment made her smile disappear under her teeth biting her lower lip. She cast her eyes away shyly. "Thank you. So, military interest?" She changed the subject away from her and started walking towards the library again. "Are you a military brat?"

Allan took the books with a smile, genuinely happy to help her, "no trouble at all," he smiled. "Yes I'll have to speak to one once I've decided, for now I'll look around, see what all the has."

He thought her question over and walked with her, "no not exactly, my father often worked with military officials," his said father was a vampire and leader of a mercenary group, he had adoped Allan at a young age. "It was interesting, so perhaps military history is the way to go," he grinned, "could do cullinary arts too, after all, soldiers gotta eat too."
