"Let me move these out of your way." He pushed the boxes into the living room. "Come in, but leave your shoes near the doorway." Pointing that out left him feeling awkward when he wasn't wearing shoes, but it was completely different. Shoes inside of a home felt weirder than paws. Also, he always made sure to wipe them on his doormat before entering.
Beyond the door was a roomy apartment that was so clean it seemed newly moved in. It was one of the more expensive ones, so the rooms were wider and the built-in furnishings were nicer.
