Hunting.

It was dark that night, no moon was out, and the trees in the forbidden forest blocked out the stars. If Elliot didn't have superior night vision, he would be blind out here, stumbling over the roots of trees.

As it was dark, he had left his jacket, hat, sunglasses, and all his other protective clothes back in the room he had made for himself on the third floor. Tonight, Elliot was out hunting. He had grown tired of stale, chilled blood, and was looking for something better.

Elliot walked through the forest, his feet softly, gently touching the ground, barely making a footprint. He wasn't wearing any shoes; he liked the feel of the ground beneath his feet.

After a bit of a hike, Elliot heard the howling of wolves. His ears perked up, and he started to run toward the sound, tying up his blonde hair, moving it out of his blue eyes. He quickly found the pack. He was far enough away that they didn't notice him yet; with his sharp eyes, he could watch the pack from a mile away.

Elliot was feeling cruel that night, and hungry, so he picked out two targets: the Alpha Male and Female. Killing them would destroy the pack. Elliot smiled to himself, and ran towards the pack.

He was within a half-mile, when the wind changed, and they picked up his sent; the wolves looked his way, then started running away. "Slow," He said, laughing evilly, "too slow! I'm gunna get ya!" Soon, Elliot was in the middle of the pack. Some of the smaller wolves ran away, but the bigger, older wolves, including the two Alphas. He allowed the lesser wolves to strike, tearing open his shirt and pants, causing some cuts and lacerations; however, the bleeding quickly ended. Elliot grabbed two of the attacking wolves, and bashed their heads together, breaking several teeth. The next one tried to slash into his left arm.

Elliot riped this one off of him, and through it into a tree. Snow fell out of the tree, and landed on the wolf. Another one tried to bite him in the right calf. Elliot kicked this one with his left leg; he heard bones break, a rib had punctured this ones lungs.

The rest of the wolves ran away, save the Alphas. The Alpha Male began circling Elliot, while the Alpha Female stayed in front of him, about 5 feet away. The Alpha male jumped at Elliot's right. Elliot rammed his fist into the wolf, hitting the inside of the wolf's skull, breaking it. The wolf fell, and the female attacked now, actually knocking Elliot to the ground.

Elliot twisted his head, and bit into the female's neck, puncturing the Jugular. Bucking, Elliot flipped the wolf on the ground, and bled said wolf of most of its blood. He then turned his attention to the Alpha male.

When he was done, he noted that the majority of the other wolves had survived, and had staggered off somewhere. However, the one beneath the tree hadn't moved yet, although there were signs of life beneath it.

Elliot sighed, and, now well feed for the next few days, went back to his hike through the forest.

Alistair had wondered what exactly made this forest so forbidden. Well, yes, there was a lot of creepy monsters and other such things in it. But why were they here? How had they arrived there in the first place? He knew not the answers to these questions. However, he had wondered if it had something to do with what he was looking for.

So far, however, he had not even a hint of "it" being here. Or anywhere else on this world, in fact.

Each day he had continued his search, often times spending up to a week outside in the wilderness. This day had been no exception, and as it neared the end of the "awake" portion of his sleeping cycle, he prepared his current makeshift bed for sleeping. He had heard the howling of wolves not too far away, but was confident that they would leave him alone. While the first several nights he had spent in this forest had been troublesome, most of the creatures began to realize that he was not some average human, and typically stayed clear of him.

What had caused the wolves to be in such a panic, however? He could tell something was not right. A wolf ran past him, and he could feel the fear it carried. Something else was in this forest with him...

It was likely that the one known as Elliot the vampire would now smell that terrible stench. As Alistair made his way over to the area out of curiosity, the stench of human inevitably made it to the vampire's nose. However, the vampire would be able to tell right off the bat this was no normal human. While he smelled similar to one, the smell nearly burned his nostrils. In no way at all did he smell appetizing, unlike other humans probably did.

Alistair hid himself behind one of the trees, peering out at the vampire as it drained the wolf of its blood. His footsteps had barely made any noise at all as he made his way over, clearly due to his incredible skill at stealth. Yes, he could tell it was a vampire by simply looking at it. The question was, how did vampires on this world work? Did they have special powers, too, just like other humans often did? He had no reason to confront the vampire, however, and decided to look on from afar. He figured the vampire would likely already have noticed his presence. Whether or not he was heard was made irrelevant considering a vampire's sense of smell. His sword was sheathed at his side, but he hoped he would find no reason to use it.

It was not long before Elliot's nose began to burn. It was a sweet smell, like the blood of something pure. But, this sent was so sweet, it was like burned sugar. Disgusting. Elliot stopped breathing through his nose, and began to mouth breath, looking around.

Elliot began talking to himself, as he often did, saying "Well, damn it all. Something this...unfathomably pure...it can't be human, and yet..." Elliot cracked his neck, and, going up on his toes, cracked most of his back at the same time. It made a sickening, ominous sound.

"Makes me sick to my stomach," he said, speaking up now, to whoever, or whatever, was following him, "Come on out! What fool thinks he can sneak up on a Vampire? Face me like a man, and I might find you amusing enough to live a bit longer. Be warned; I may have just fed, but that doesn't mean I still can't eat!" He said with a laugh.

Miles wandered around the forest looking for things he could use in his crafting. The forest always had some kind of interesting things that he could use. There were some times when he had to get away from some of the creatures of the forest but he could handle himself well enough to be alone in the forest for extended periods of time without having to go back to campus immediately. The creatures here were useful in research though, when it came down to it.

He got the chance to take apart a few of them and look at their anatomy a little bit. He had made a necklace with one of his owlbear’s claws on it and wore it around his neck and his lightning sword strapped onto his back. He brought it with him as a good luck charm, since it was one of his first monsters fought in this forest. He wasn’t sure where all the monsters came from but he would find out after taking some more time investigating the monsters.

The sword was one of his own creations that he had made with some of his own power and some shock lizard’s blood. It emitted black electricity from its blade when he sent his power through it and seemed like it would hold out for some time to come. He had brought it with him so he would have a weapon against anything that could be found in this forest.

Miles walked further into the forest and thought he heard a noise a little further from where he was. Miles didn’t know what it was could be someone who knows why there are monsters here, a student, or it could be one of the monsters itself. Miles headed toward the voice in a walk so he would get there without spending too much energy. He stopped when he a boy yelling for somebody to come out and headed toward where he thought it was coming from and saw somebody that he thought was a student there.

"You would so quickly threaten to steal the life away from one whom you have never met?" He said, walking out from behind the tree, so that he could be seen in full view. He most certainly did not look like a very impressive person. The sheathed sword as his left side was the only indication of any combat skill, in fact. "Vampires are not necessarily known for their friendliness, but it is recommended you at least try a little humility."

Not even a hint of fear or concern. He seemed completely confident in his words. In fact, his eyes stared directly into the vampire's, giving off an incredible sensation of confidence. Even if his body did not look it, the vampire would surely be able to tell that this was not some normal human. "At the very least, we could move to introductions before getting to the step involving you attacking me and ending up utterly defeated." He smiled, as if that sentence had been in jest. In all honesty, it was difficult to tell. His voice certainly sounded sarcastic, but his eyes would say that he believed every word to be true.

"Why?" Elliot asked Alistair, being very polite and seemingly civil, "So that I may pretend to be what I am not? At least I know what I am; I am a beast, a predator of the night. I am what gives mortals nightmares. That is more than I can say for you, I think. I know what I am, and yet you still pretend to be human, whatever you are."

Elliot began to walk to the left of Alistair, in a circle around him a fair distance away. He breathed in deeply, through his nose.

"And if you are to think me so easily outmatched, I believe you are quite mistaken. I know how to handle myself in a fight. This," He said, the fingertips of his left hand gently stroking the feint scar that ran from just above the left eye down to his chin, "I earned while being human. I got it fighting for my life, such as it was, over a hundred years ago."

Elliot turned slightly away from Alistair now, not looking at him, but out into the forest, all of his senses alert.

"You see, my father was a clock maker, dutch. His work was superb, You can still find some in antique stores today. Those I haven't burned, of course. Father cared about his work, more than anything. I was his indentured servant, working for him, so that I may take up the mantel of Master Clock Maker.

"One night, our town was attacked by a group of about 5 vampires. One of them broke into our home...It was Father's fault, he thought it was a friend, and invited him in. I took some of the wood we were using to make a new clock, broke it, and stabbed the vampire in the Heart, saving Father."

Elliot turned back to Alistair now, his eyes alive with fury. "Father hated me. I broke the wood, you see. It was valuable, and he couldn't get a replacement for several weeks. 'Damn the wood!' I said, 'Your life is worth more!' He gave me the rest of the broken piece of wood, 'I don't need it anymore,' he said. Then he kicked me out of the house.

"I killed two more of those vampires, before they got me. Their leader, my new master, Richard, left me "Alive"; he was impressed by me. The fool. Two months later, I killed the rest of his Coven."

Elliot Clapped, very suddenly and loudly, "The point of the story is that I can fight. I've been fighting my whole existence."

"And what did you think of the story," Elliot said, speaking up now, looking into the trees, "The little worm, hiding while the birds squawk at each other. Eh? What say you?"

Miles was surprised to find that he had accidently wandered into a vampire in this forest and nonetheless one that had been telling his past. It was interesting to hear but it wasn’t any of Miles’s concern at the moment. He was a little surprised by the fact that someone else was out here in the forest and had run into the vampire too. He wondered what his blood would taste like to a vampire, but that wasn’t something he wanted to find out unless it was necessary. Miles had almost zoned out into his thoughts when he heard the vampire calling out for someone to come out of hiding.

Miles sighed to himself at the vampires comment about him being a worm listening to two birds. Miles had no interest in fighting in this place but if it came down to it he had no problems with one even with all these trees. “I didn’t mean to eavesdrop on your conversation, but I just happened to be in the area,” Miles said to the vampire. “Seems you had yourself a nice little past,” Miles said to him to comment on his story. He noticed that the person that the vampire had been talking to was Alistair and gave him a friendly little wave. He stood a good distance away from the vampire and waited to see how this situation would go down and to see what Alistair was exactly doing there.

"And what exactly makes you think I am pretending to be anything? I am as one perceives me to be, not at all less or more. Perhaps it is your vision of reality that is deceptive, no?" He seemed not at all intimidated by the vampire's words, his face retaining the emotionless look as if this situation was nothing out of the extraordinary. He listened patiently to the vampire's tale, not interrupting him even once. He watched as a familiar face stepped out from the words, nodding to him in response to his wave. What was Miles doing out here, exactly? He wondered.

"I apologize you had such a difficult time growing up, sir. However, perhaps it would be best for all parties involved that we simply part ways here. Truly, you do not intend to attack me unprovoked? Nor do you intend to attack me when another stands before you? Surely, he would come to my aid. Or do you believe you can take out two others at once?" He would prefer Miles was left unharmed because of this confrontation. He was unsure exactly how well Miles fared in combat, but he was a student of the school, and not someone he wanted to be involved. Still, he felt uncomfortable allowing such an arrogant abomination such as this one to occupy the lands outside of the school. He wasn't one to heedlessly purge sentient undead, but ones that threatened humans were a different story.

"I think...I think you pretend to be human,' Elliot said, pointing a finger at Alistair, "You are too perfect, too pure, to be human. And If you are what one perceives you to be, than I perceive you as a monster worse than I, and a threat.

"Do not appologize, that was not the purpose of the tale. It was not an unpleasant up bringing; far worse exsist, I shant pretend that."

Elliot took a step back from Alistair, bringing himself closer to the other. "Indeed? Unprovoked?" he said with a laugh, "you are the fools who have entered MY domain," he said with a growl, "you are the ones who entered the 'forbiden forrest.' Had you ever once wonder why this place is so forbiden? Because beasts like ME live here," he said, getting angry, he voice becoming harsh, almost as if he was growling while he spoke, "this is my neck of the woods, children, and you have walked in. I can not about the boy, he has a chance to leave, so long as You, you foul creature, thing of the aether, stay. I challenge you, to the death!" he said, his left hand thumping his chest hard, at the word 'challenge', "One beast...to another..." he said with a wicked smile.

how intersting, he thought perhaps this is where I die...the second time...it's been so long since i've had a real fight

Miles was unsure if everything that had happened so far was just a good way to leave things but it seemed like Alistair was trying to diffuse this situation while the vampire was trying to escalate it. It was a little annoying that the vampire was just dismissing him off as some little human boy but it wasn’t any point in getting the vampire riled up at him seeing as there was a large age gap between the two of them that was an advantage on the vampire’s part. But if a fight did break out it was most likely that he would have Alistair on his side against him. The way things were in this situation it would be more like he was Alistair’s help in the fight.

“Hey, Alistair do you want to help me find some interesting stuff around the forest if we’re done here?” Miles said trying to see if he could help out Alistair by getting him out of the situation. He could ask him a little about what the vampire meant by him pretending to be human when they got away from this area. Miles wasn’t sure why he’d want to pretend to be human since they started so many wars. A lot of sentient creatures seemed to kill each other often. Miles kept his hand ready to grab his sword should anything happened to him and maybe Alistair though he could probably handle himself.
